Can anyone help me to find more about ventures in the subterranea in Ancient and Medieval times? As far back as the sewer-complex Sumerians, to Classical Antiquity, to the Medieval times. Books would be helpful, as well as links on the history of subterranean exploration would be helpful.
It seems to me that we know more about celestial bodies than the soil beneath our feet.

Hi Molo!
I'm not sure I understand exactly what you're looking for. Are you wanting archaeological information about digs at sites that had ancient excavations (such as Knossos?) or are you wanting something about explorations of existing subterranean complexes that date back to ancient times, such as the catacombs in Europe?

Wait - so you want to know about.. okay.
Well, some say that stonehenge wasn't a calander, but a geophysical device meant to detect shifts in the earth's crust. Try googling "geophysical stonehenge" or something.. I dunno, I need to get some sleep, I need to be in work in 8 hours. And I still need to sleep. There's mention of it in the book "The Atlantis Blueprint"... I'll search for some links tomorrow.

I'm sorry, I still don't know what you're talking about. I understand there's quite a network of old sewers and paved over creeks and things under London. Is that the sort of thing you mean? (Where did Stonehenge come into this?)

No i don't mean man-made things like sewers or pavings, but the history of subterranean exploration.

Are you talking about caving? Google "spelunking history".

I guess Stonehenge came in because I thought he was asking about ancients exploring the earth below our feet, but I really dont know what hes asking.

Wow, nothing under ancient spelunking, a pretty scarce subject.
