The pics been altered hasn't it?

From where the guy is holding it upwards is way out of proportion.
sultanmuratova
what's a liger? lion and tiger?
i have seen a documentary long time ago about an animal which was half cat and half leopard or cheetah or something.
Shivel
At the risk of sounding like a complete dork, I think thats actually a tigon.

A liger looks more like this:

I live in Michigan and a few years ago, we had quite a few sightings of not only a Liger, but a black panther roaming around not 3 miles from my apartment.
Nothing ever came of it, but the idea was still interesting and exciting.
Cattalina
Oops. I forgot to mention that the pic doesn't show a LION/tiger mix,
but a LEOPARD/tiger mix. yes.gif
AnimangaBloodThorn
It looks altered to me. His bottom half looks out of porportion, but he is cute, no? grin2.gif

Edit-Changed spelling.
Cattalina
I found some more pics of the same cat, apparently his name is Hercules and he's living on a private farm i North Carolina. (With his hot owner wink2.gif )

Whoa! Those are some nice-niced chompers, no? These pics seem more real to me than the other for some reason. Of course, I don't know that much about altering pics. Nor do I know that much about Ligers. Have they become their own breed? I know, I'm full of stupid questions at the moment. Please forgive me? tongue.gif They are nifty looking creatures though.

what about this one
ManInBlack
link showed partial picture.

i don't agree with cross-breeding tigers and lions...it seems unnatural, and i think, is very different from what nature intended for these animals

Both good images.

CR, you seem frustrated latley; anything you wanna tlk about? You're not posting as enthusiastically as normal.

The first image can be found with the story behind it in the daily mirror from yesterday in the UK.
Apocalyptic Cryptid
yah seen it before but it is cute but still why make somthing that cant breed then you would have to keep geneticicly making them instead of nature making them...grr stupid genetic scientists

CR is posting less. I think his posts are more compact and acutally better now. He seems to be a little more sceptical now which is good.

Damn, that thing is HUGE! I wouldn't want to come across that when it's hungry.

There was an article in the Daily Mail, a British national newspaper, about 3 days ago with the news (and a picture) of a adolescent liger that is already 10 feet tall when stood up and is expected to grow to 12ft. huh.gif The story was also in many other newspapers in Britain, such as The Daily Mirror as Walken pointed out in an earlier post thumbsup.gif

Anyway, in light of this artcle, and this topic, I think I'll post some humorous names of other exotic hybrids found around the world, most of them naturally (as opposed to genetically produced), and which animals they spawn from.

liger - from a male lion and a female tiger
tigon - a male tiger and a lioness
mule - a female horse and a male donkey
labradoodle - a labrador and a poodle
zorse/zebroid - a zebra and a horse
beefalo - an american bison and a domestic cow
wolphin - a whale and a dolphin (hmm...)
leopon - a male leopard and a lioness
lepjag (!) - a leopard and a jaguar

But, as far as names go, my personal favourite:
the zeedonk - a zebra and a donkey thumbsup.gif

It must have been love at first sight...

No,the people that do have an idea what's goin on are looking for new interesting topics, not the same ones over and over. The search bar is for the newbies, that way they get their info, and none of the more experienced members have to keep looking at the same topic everyday.
Walken
No ones makeing you read the topic, if thats what your looking for. It's not like it's pushing other topics off the page or anything.

Maybe it's a female. But if it is a hybrid it would be sterile so it's not like it matters anyway.

Jeez CR!!! Chill out a little bit. disgust.gif I seem to remember a certain member of this board that posted picture upon picture of Cryptids seemingly without doing any research on the origins of the pics at all. tongue.gif
The "newbies" as you call them, are just being enthusiastic about their pics and subjects. If they happen to post something that's been done months ago, be a little patient. Eventually they will get with the flow of things and learn to utilize all the tools of this message board. thumbsup.gif
If you jump all over them over one mistake, they will be less likely to post something that we may not have seen before.
Elvis
Or in other words CR, your scaring the newbies away! tongue.gif

damn that dancin elvis is freaky
Lord_Kazius
am i mistaken or are those guys sigfried and roy?
HAJiME
JayMan... That is so fake it's painful. Look at the angle it's lying in for christ sake.

Besides, ligers are the giant cats because the father is a lion and the mother is a tiger. Male lions are bigger than females, female tigers are bigger than males - thus giant kitty.

Tigons is where the father is a tiger... again making you're pic so fake it's untrue.
Walken
That picture isnt fake. Its well established and proven.
__Kratos__
Wicked. grin2.gif Where do I get one? tongue.gif
Mandar
HAJiME - Why is JayMan's pic fake? These things are real man...some of them have manes like that.

Anyways...I've seen these cats of epic proportions once before. I was five...and I was at the circus...and even then I knew it was wrong.

I watched a show about these big cats awhile back. There are quite a bit of them around. Sad really...

And that giraffe pic...was that an albino? That was so freaky looking!
DanL
The picture is real. The reason Ligers are big is because the gene that determines when their growth is to stop is carried by the female lion and the male tiger. Without this gene their bodies don't stop growing. I suspect their lives are cut short and end in misery because of this, much as when the same thing happens to a human. I think if this is true then it is wrong to create an animal that will suffer, just for humans to gawk at. The Tigon gets a double dose of the gene and is nothing special as far as size goes. This may have been covered on another thread but I didn't feel like reading all the other threads and am only responding to this one.
