MOAB, Utah (AP) -- A Colorado climber amputated his own arm Thursday, five days after becoming pinned by a boulder, and he was hiking to safety when he was spotted by searchers, authorities said.

I guess he will as he had the strength (mental and physical) to save himself.

My sons reckon that is soooo gruesome but he must be a
very brave guy. (Also some sick kid humour was mentioned
-they are 9 an 10 after all- but I'll spare you all that...)

That's an amazing story. I don't think I could ever do that, and hopefully, I will never be put in a position that would make me decide.
