Maybe this isn't an important question but...
...where is the most haunted place on earth?

Where is the most paranormal activity...
...and where did people had the most encounters?

D. is training for becoming a ghosthunter...
...all he needs is a place to hunt!!

The most haunted place? People's mind!
In his book "The Demon-Haunted World", Sagan says that we might have a programmed mecanism in our brain that makes us fear in the night when we're young and believe in ghosts when we're adult. To dream of demons and
monsters prevent young from wandering before they come to understand the existence of true predators. "How can this safety machinery be effective for a vigorous, curious, young animal unless it delivers industrial strength terror? Those who are not afraid of monsters tend not to leave descendents," says Sagan.

Well, may I kindly suggest that the Netherlands is probably not the best place to live if your looking the much-mythologised "most haunted place on earth". grin2.gif
Wherever it may be...

Unless of course you are a millionaire and have a private jet tongue.gif
Elfstone810
There's no one answer to your question, D. Lots of places claim to be the "most haunted". Personally, I've always loved British ghost stories. They have such variety and the Brits seem more matter-of-fact about ghosts.

In North America, you could visit almost anywhere from way up in Alaska to the American Deep South and find ghost stories. Montreal has a nice variety, I believe Toronto is quite haunted (any Canadians onlist wanna comment?), New York has probably hundreds of ghost stories, as do California and Louisiana.

Australia has the only actual ghost festival that I've heard of, if it still takes place. (Aussies? Do they still have the Fisher's Ghost Creek Picnic regularly?)

There are also ghost stories from all across Europe and Asia, but I'm only familiar with the ones that have been translated into English. I know there's the famous story about the Petit Trianon at Versailles in France and Berlin has the White Lady of the Hohenzollerns. (Forgive me if I spelled that wrong!)

Anyway, I think that, instead of looking for the "most haunted place" to ghost hunt, you'd do better to decide where you want to ghost hunt and then see what's there. Good luck!

(And thanks for bringing this up! You've just given me a great idea. original.gif If I can get a book of true ghost stories from France in French, it'll give me an incentive to improve my second-language skills! grin2.gif)

I've watched this show a couple of times and they say it's Englands Chillingham Castle(yes that's the name)

Why is that england and Ireland have the most haunted places in the world?
Elvis
And Scotland! (I think)
Elfstone810
Yes, I was counting Scotland and Ireland as part of the UK. original.gif Both have wonderful traditions of hauntings!

As to Chillingham Castle, it is one of the places claimed as "most haunted", but then so are a lot of others. What's more, I had their names all ready to type in until I got to the word "are" in the last sentence. Gah! Sand something. Sanford Orcas! Hah! And that big, really famous old castle in Scotland. The one with the legend of the hidden heir, and the ghost of Earl Beardie playing cards with the devil and the woman who was burned as a witch. Grrr. And then in the US there's New Orleans.

I hate it when my brain won't work! sad.gif I've had the flu, we'll blame that.
Elvis
That would be Glamis Castle thumbsup.gif

Damn flu! tongue.gif
Elfstone810
Yes, Glamis! Thank you! thumbsup.gif
Elvis
Any time!
As long as I'm able to search for it on Google, that is... laugh.gif

I'd hate to go to the castle where Vlad the impaler learnt his trade.

I saw it on tv the other week and can't remember the name of it. Imagine the energy of the place, with the thousands of people tortured and killed there.
Elfstone810
Belsen is another place that's supposed to be very haunted, I believe. It seems I've heard that it's not uncommon for airplane pilots to see what appears to be the crematories operating at full blast.

The Tower of London is another famous haunted site, and in the US we have the dubious distinction of having the LaLurie and Crenshaw houses -- both places where slaves were horribly tortured and murdered before and during the American Civil War and believed to be badly haunted.

I'm going to see if I can find some links to some of the places we've been talking about.
MJB222
Victoria, and i'm going there soon! grin2.gif

If you are in Canada busting ghosts, I warn you, there is a haunted restaurant in nearly every bloody town and city disgust.gif

I, as a believer of ghosts myself, believe that you can find ghosts in practically any country, any state and almost any city. My theory is that ghosts are caused by either an unexpected sudden death or an agonizingly traumatic death which usually are caused by murders. Murders and death can happen anywhere and at any time. So if your looking for a haunted place and cant seem to find one...you just may not be looking hard enough. Chances are that there may be a ghost haunting in your very own neighborhood. Take it from me, I didn't use to believe in ghosts until I once experienced an unexpected haunting firsthand in my very own house. sad.gif

From my personal experiences as an investigator with lack of money and time to fly to europe for the extremely active investigations, I'd suggest trying out Gettysburg PA. I've been there quite a bit and have never experienced a place quite as active. But I only suggest that if you are from the US and don't have the funding to fly over to Europe.

But if you just want to go local, you can go just about anywhere. The paranormal has no boundaries.
RacerX13
London, Moscow, and Tombstone, Arizona are my top three going from what I've read and watched.
GMAC
I always heard that the Tower of London is the most haunted place in the world. I have seen so much about it on paranormal TV shows. If not the most haunted place, definitely one of the top 10.

I do know that a lot of people died horrible, and agonizing deaths there ( beheadings, drawn and quartered, etc). The Tower of London has a very violent history. I was fascinated by that place when I was there last year. The Yeoman Warders ( more commonly known as Beefeaters) who work there do not deny that the place is haunted either. I read that there are almost as many ghosts in the tower as tourists that come there.

GOOD ANSWER....it's the only one we can prove. The rest are just claims..there's no way to prove that. Claiming that will just be proven wrong by another "most haunted place"

Hey Tia, the name of Vlad the Impalers place is Hunadora Castle, unsure.gif a very nasty place to be I've heard. Europe in general is a great place to go if you want to do some good ghost hunting. Because of how old the continent is and all the history (consequently, all the deaths) make it really a mine field for encounters, or at least has some good ghost tours!

Question...what makes England and Ireland older than any other continent? Nothing. It's not as if England/Ireland was made before the rest of the world. There were settlers here way before European settlers. History doesn't go much beyond the time of European settlers but there were Indians first. They have also found evidence that a far eastern group or oriental dicovered America way before Christopher Columbus did. And what about the Vikings who also have gone through America way back when?
I believe since there are more remenance of history still standing in Europe, people get the sense that it is the most haunted. How come there are no African ghost stories? I bet they would have some scary ones, since it seems they are more spiritually in touch with it. I know they have ghosts too.
How come the countries that are majority worship and practice other religions such as voodoo, in Haiti, Africa, Jamaica, Mexico are not even accreditted as much as Europe?

And if you guys have not noticed...why does nearly every place in England/Ireland claim to be the most haunted placed on earth. They're just claims.

Athens, Ohio, I think. Several of the largest cemeteries there form a pentagram, suggesting cult activity, or protection (as pentagrams are sometimes signs of protection). Also many believe there are an abnormally large amount of ghost sightings and activity that happen there, and that when the apocalpse happens, only the town of Athens will be left standing. Weird, huh?

I hear that the Myrtle Inn Plantation in New Orleans is ripe with spirits, and one of the more active places to seek out ghosts.

Also, you might want to take a trip down to Gettysburg, PA. With the largest battle fought on American soil, some 175,000 combatants, and over 51,000 casualties during the three day engagement, it is purported to be infested with spirits.

Actually I have been there...The Myrtle Plantation is in St. Francisville, Louisiana . It's ok, strange stuff happens, but nothing too scary. They claim it to be the most haunted house in America, but once you go to the place, you can tell their bluffing because they have a freakin gift shop in the front. It's a scam. It does have a violent history and all the slaves killed there. My ex-girl friend owns 5000 acres of land that neighbors the Myrtle Plantation and backs up to the property dividing it by a barbed wired fence called "Camp Solitude", formerly known as the Barrell Plantation. I have found two unmapped lost cemeteries there. They also have 7 man made lakes on the property, more like ponds. The ducks pond, bass pond, catfish pond...they have their own bulldozer...sheesh..snobby rich people...that's why we're not together.

Here's something no one really knows about :
THE GALVESTON STORM OF 1900—
THE DEADLIEST DISASTER IN AMERICAN HISTORY:
occurred in Galveston, Texas in the Gulf Coast, about 40 minutes from where I live in Houston. Nearly the whole population was wipe away. Over 8,000 people perished , due to the waves and the hurricane. This is before they build the SeaWall which now breaks the waves when it hits the shoreline.
The cemeteries are creepy there!

I agree with this thumbsup.gif . From I have found is that any place can be haunted and it really is not possibly to determine if a place is the "most haunted". I will make some not so well known suggestions though. In the U.S. there is a great deal in Michigan, epecially around the great lakes. And it is a small town, but Abingdon VA has a great deal, just about every building down the main street has ATLEAST one or two hauntings. They also have a guided ghost tour and the woman that guides it is fantastic, she also does history tours and she really knows her stuff, she could probably tell you what rumours were going around 150 years ago.

Well, you can. It still has a lot of interesting history. Louisiana is known for it's voodoo, the voodoo queen "marie Laveau's" tomb. new orleans is in hour away from myrtle plantaion which is still "decent"...there has been captured activity...but nothing that might scare the hell out of you. New orleans is home of the french quarters. Bourbon St. ( although all it is, is a street full of tourists) and all the local are partying somewhere else. It is to me the ONE of the most haunted cities in US. The south was known for cruel treatment to slaves. History goes all the way back to the Louisiana Purchase when pain still owned it I believe. The french quarters itself where Margi Gras on Bourbon street is, is haunted. These are still the original quarters that date back for a long time, and most of the french quarters are now bars. Everything looks how it did back in history. best food around...Jazz burgers, best clubs/bars..Club 360, The Boot, Club Metropolitan.

I like to travel a lot too. And thanks for the info, I travel more for history than I do for ghosts anyway. It is true that the south was cruel to slaves, but I can still see
that attitude sometimes here and a great deal of the local hauntings are of blacks that have been murdered by the Klan. I may be way up north, but this is where the late grand dragon lived when he was alive and a lot of his followers are still here.

I travel a lot.

Maybe this isn't an important question but...
...where is the most haunted place on earth?

Where is the most paranormal activity...
...and where did people had the most encounters?

D. is training for becoming a ghosthunter...
...all he needs is a place to hunt!!

I don't know if it's true or not, but some people say york, i find the roman legions the most interesting, there was a good tv documentary made about it, an apprentice plumber was working in some cellars in the city and he heard a horn blowing, then a roman solder on a horse came through the wall followed by the rest of the legion, he said it looked as if they had no legs, i find this the most convincing part, the young plumber (old man now) couldn't explain why they had no legs, so he thought they must have been walking on there knee's what he didn't know was the street level in roman times was 2 feet below the present day level.
If anyone does visit the UK try and fit york in, i prefer it to London, you won't be disappointed, you need more than a day see everything.
