... I don't know if thats any help, their fairly obvious, I just hope that I didn't come off as condescending there

BurnSide
4/4 lost!
Bring it on!
Talon
You should take a leaf out of ElfStone's book. He's beating me crying.gif
BurnSide
Good! You're too good for me. tongue.gif
Elfstone810
Am I really? grin2.gif I think you're kidding, though. Everything I think up, you block!

(I'm a she, btw. wink2.gif)
Elfstone810
Ahhh! You're evil! See! I KNEW he was just stringing me along!

crying.gif
Talon
Not at all. I was actually really really scared. I'm so glad I managed take the queen. It changes everything.

Seriously though, you had quite a few moves where you would have disimated me had you pressed down the upon the King with your Queen more.

You'll be a really strong player with a few more games under your belt thumbsup.gif
Elfstone810
Thanks. original.gif Gosh, he's making me cry and being nice at the same time! tongue.gif I've only ever played one other player, years ago, and he ALWAYS won. I found out later where he'd learned to play.

In prison. hmm.gif
Talon
..... ic wacko.gif
Elfstone810
BTW, just for the record, blush.gif the only reason I knew an ex-con was because I was working with him.

It was kind of funny, actually. The place I worked had a strict rule about not hiring anyone who'd been convicted of a felony, but he lied and by the time they found out they'd promoted him to manager. Well, gosh, sure there was a rule, but they were GOOD judges of character, weren't they? And after all, he'd paid his debt to society, hadn't he? So they decided to make an exception, just this once.

Then one day he left to take a deposit to the bank and the next anyone heard of him was when the police caught him up in Detroit about three months later. tongue.gif

Talon has almost finished anhilating me. hmm.gif I'm learning a lot from him, though. devil.gif
Talon
I had the opposite experience. We hired a guy, he later quit, and then a year later was arrested for murder. grin2.gif

Ah, but the bright side is your forcing me to take almost all your peices just to get a pin on your king. thumbsup.gif The longer a match goeson and more peices taken on both sides shows how closed players are in skill. A true anhilation would have been a checkmate in 7 moves after only 4 peices had been taken off the board. You've done really well. thumbsup.gif I will say this though, next time, make more use with your Queen, its the strongest peice but you never moved it.
Saru
Any chance of a practice match Talon when you get a spare game slot on RHP ? wink2.gif
thebarman
To Talon,

Thanks for offering a game, but at the moment I'm playing SaRuMaN, Thistle and Lottie and getting beat by all three, by all accounts I've heard you're a bit good so if it's ok I'll decline while I try and remember tactics I once knew years ago, rather than humiliate myself once more...

Sure, at the mo I'm playing Lottie, Golum, Elfstone, ElvisHendrx0, Joc and a freind from Glasgow, so I'll challenge you to a practice when I finish one.

P.S. Lottie its your turn *poke, poke*
Talon
K, Saru I cleared a space and challenged you grin2.gif

Sorry I deleted our game ElvisHendrx0, but you haven't moved in a week.
Elfstone810
Arrrgghhh! Is RHP down again? It let me on, but when I tried to move it froze up and wouldn't give me anything but a "page cannot be displayed" message! (Sorry, Saruman! It wouldn't even let me see the game against you!)
Saru
Seems to be working fine now thumbsup.gif
thebarman
Think SaRuMaN might be a little annoyed at me, our practice game has been going on a while now and it's blatently obvious he's going to win due to my shocking lack of pieces left on the board but I just keep running....
Saru
*lol* i'll get there eventually thumbsup.gif
gollum
Well played Talon. Now for the real thing. wink2.gif

Are you OK to go into the real deal now?
Talon
Of course grin2.gif
Talon
Okay, I got to admit, I have no idea if its even possible for me to win against Saruman in this practice match we're having sad.gif
Saru
*lol* I wouldn't worry, i'm very likely to mess this up at any moment. hmm.gif
Talon
Thats what I thinking though. grin2.gif (EDIT: about myself)

No matter who wins, its likely going to be tight
thebarman
Erm....what happended Saru, you had me on the run? You were there for the kill!
Saru
Well all I can say is that it has a very peculiar sense of what constitutes a draw. hmm.gif

Good game anyways thumbsup.gif
Elfstone810
So if I can avoid Talon long enough the screwy computer will call it a draw? grin2.gif

As Charlemagne said, "let my armies be the rocks and the trees and the idiosyncratic computer programs on the Internet!" (or words to that effect. wink2.gif)
Talon

Oh I thought you'd claimed a draw after getting bored of chasing my king round the board for 5 days! That's wierd I read the site rules I didn't see anything about the site forcing a draw on you.

Anyway well played SaRuMaN, however it would have done my ego a lot more if I'd perhaps played my first game in over 10 years against someone further down the scale. I look forward to a rematch when I've remembered a little more...
Saru
I think my mistake was to let you get into a position where your king wasn't in check, but none of your pieces could move - which the game automatically classes as a stalemate.

I'll have to watch out for that in future laugh.gif

Ahh of course, so it was a legitamate draw after all even though you had taken all but my King and two pawns, sweet I fully expected to lose that one thumbsup.gif
Snowbaby
S'ok barmannie, im gonna whoop ur lil bitty butt just now wub.gif

EDIT:- Ho Hum hmm.gif blink.gif He beat me

grin2.gif Okay, better now. grin2.gif
Elfstone810
I just checked a book on chess out of the library and noticed that there's a rule in it that "when a game reaches the same position three times with the same player on move the game is a draw". Just thought I'd toss that out as another possibility as to why Barman and Saruman's match was called (though, of course, if Saru had Barman pinned but not in check, that's listed in my book as a stalemate).

BTW, is there any difference between a draw and a stalemate? And, if not, why do they have different names for them? hmm.gif

I don't know for sure, so don't quote me on this but I would think a draw is offered and accepted willingly, while a stalemate is something you end up in unintentionally.

That's my theory, correct me if I'm wrong thumbsup.gif
gollum
Sorry about this people but I'm out of this for 10 days. I'm off down south on a shooting cadre.

I'll get back to it when I return. thumbsup.gif
Saru
Ok thanks for letting us know - you might want to make sure your current games are all finished before you go if you have time, as some of them will time out by default before you get back - the time limit is 10 days exactly on RHP.
Saru
Well done Talon, couldn't stop you getting your queen back which was what finished me off.

Good game thumbsup.gif
Talon
Thanks, you were really strong. Your pawn deployment I must say was really hard to make an impact on it without that massive exchange of officers at the start, I'll watch out for that in the next game thumbsup.gif
