i was scared to death of E.T. i have just recentally got over my fear!!
you know that advert for BT (I only know of it airing in the UK) when E.T used to be in it, hated it to death. Also, the dark still scares me and things 'under the bed' was my main fear when i was small
GreyWeather
dolls give me the wig. ever since i had to stay in my sisters room cuz my room was being decorated. she had shelves of those china dolls and this puppet that sat in the middle.
I never got a wink of sleep, because I swear they kept switching places. but when I eventually got to sleep, one of the dolls fell off the shelf and hit my face, haha and man did I get out of that room as fast as possible.
i ended up sleeping in my living room...

(this was when i was around 8 or 9. and im still s**t scared of them)

No, I'm more like the Boy in the Plastic Bubble. I hear plastic causes allergic reactions on their happy sacks.
Rainbow Rowan
Prays that he is talking about the aliens', and not the boys' thingys having an allergic reaction.
Yelekiah
laugh.gif @ RR. Yes, aliens. The man on the Oatmeal Box is....creepy.
Rainbow Rowan
Those little guys from Rice Bubbles are kinda spooky too ph34r.gif
Tenteijfs
As a little boy, I was afraid of my parents being aliens. I was also afraid of the dark.

I had a recurring dream when I was younger that I would be running downstairs toward our bathroom. An evil-looking, laughing skull would be chasing me. I got to the bathroom only to find the door locked. I screamed and banged on the door but no one would open it. I would wake up as the skull came at my face. Sounds lame now, but it was scary stuff to an 8 yr. old! original.gif
Beckys_Mom
mannequin's from shop windows, because my mom once told me as a kid that they used to be people that where caught shoplifting and where turned into mannequins as punishment!! So I never shoplifted!! ph34r.gif

Dolls and clowns. Dolls the most. When I was literally a baby my mom said I would bust out crying for no reason when she would leave me alone with my brother. One day she walked in and found him holding one of those blinking dolls in my face. As soon as she caught him and put the doll away I would quit crying. I had a fear of dolls until I was like 12.
different
I still fear dolls. Clowns, well I can't say so for I know some nice ones.

freddy cruger really scared me. I never even seen the movies, just a picture on the video box.
Of course I was also afraid of spiders, vomit, mayonase and tsumanis, and still am.
Tenteijfs
Mayonnaise? Really?
_Nyx_
blink.gif Yeah.....mayonnaise??

Surely there's a phobia for that.....I have to find out. Fear of condiments.....come to think of it.....tartar sauce always bothered me...... ph34r.gif

Well, I'll be damned..... huh.gif

QUOTE(JFS @ Dec 20 2005, 12:50 AM)

Mayonnaise? Really?

yep, not just a dislike, I'm actually afraid of it... Owe it all to my sister, when I was small she told me to open my mouth and shut my eyes, and she put a corn chip (I think it was a dorito) with a glob of mayo and tuna into my trusting mouth. That might have been grounds for my fear of vomit (can you guess my reaction?). I still cant eat tuna, I fear mayo and have trust issues. amazing how one incident can impact someones life so much. Strangely enough, I have no problem with doritos or corn chips...

edit: just read the link. I cant believe it! I'm not alone!!
Tenteijfs
That's wild!! laugh.gif Sorry to laugh, but that's really strange. I don't eat Mayonnaise, but I've never heard of someone being afraid of it.

Ok, I can understand being afraid that you might vomit from eating mayonaise, but did you mean to say that you were actually afraid of vomit itself, or just scared of having to vomit? That is odd, although when I was little I was always afraid of spinach, or eating it because I often would choke on it.

LOL, tartar sauce grosses me out too. I think it's the texture and creaminess...yuck!! But I can't say I have a fear of it.

OMG..when I was a kid I was totally afraid to turn my back to a dark room. And I always jumped into my bed that way nothing could grab my ankles from underneath the bed. Oh and I would never be the first one to rip the shower curtian open in case someone was behind it.

Im afraid of seeing it, smelling it, hearing it, doing it, touching it, etc. I cant watch it in movies, and will not see a movie unless a number of trustworthy sources tells me it's "safe". On the rare occasions where I get surprised (yep, some friends thought it would be funny to tell me a movie was ok, and it wasn't- they are no longer my friends) I either get sick myself, curl up into a fetal position(possibly pass out) or both.

You choked on spinach? raw or cooked?
MysteryLight
As a little kid i was scared of the dark and heights. I'm not scared of the dark anymore but I still don't like heights, mostly since I get dizzy and am afraid of falling off the roof of a tall building because of it.

I wasn't a fan of the dark when I was little. Now, I like my bedroom to be pitch black when I try to sleep. sleepy.gif

I did have one horrible nightmare that I remember to this day. I was about 7 or so. My Mom forced me to go to church. The Sunday School lesson was on stonings....great thing to tell little kids about, huh??? blink.gif blink.gif

I dreamed that night that there was these HUGE men with GIANT boulders trying to smash me to death. crying.gif I didn't know what my "sin"/crime was. I woke up crying & screaming.

Long story short, Mom continued to force me to go to church. sad.gif

It was cooked spinach...the stringy stem part I always used to have a hard time swallowing, so everytime my mom would make it I'd really fear it.

I hate it when people think that it's funny to scare people when they really know they have a fear of something. I used to have a horrible fear of spiders and would be histerical whenever one would be around until it was dead. My brother, as a joke, had a fake spider and said "Oh God! Look out!" and threw it on my lap. Sounds funny, but it wasn't. He did the same thing with a rubber snake too. I never found it funny because it scared me to tears. I think he eventually felt bad when he realized that you don't tease people who really have a phobia.

BTW- For anyone who has a fear of spiders- I still don't like them much, but I overcame a lot my fear of them by living in an apartment that was loaded with them. Having to confront them several times a day has desensitized me. I think what they say it true- confront your fears. They may never go away completely, but they may become more managable.
rose_ashes
i have a serious phobia of tornadoes... always have, and always will i think.

the movie "mars attacks" scared the crap out of me. i was convinced that my parents were aliens in disguise for approximately two weeks.

even to this day, i still have to open the shower curtain whenever i see it closed, and i can't dangle my feet over the edge of the bed. i have a bad habit of freaking myself out over stupid things as a result of my overactive-imagination. rolleyes.gif

however, on a more humorous note, my sister used to be convinced that evil skeletons lived in the toilet and was afraid that if she sat down on it, they would reach out of the toilet, grab her, and pull her down into a dark toilety grave. it was HILARIOUS. she wouldn't go to the bathroom alone for about a year. i have no clue what gave her the impression that skeletons lived in the toilet, but it sure made for some great entertainment. w00t.gif

when i was little i can say i never had a fear of ANYTHING :-D. Probably because I was always surrounded by people(especially cause I had a nanny the whole time).
Now, I have hemophobia. Phobia to blood. I found out about it when I was reading a paragraph in Memoirs of a Geisha. I fainted lol. That kinda changed my life, since I was a pre-med student no.gif

Oh man that is bad.

You can always get what we called "mickey mouse air" This relieves the tension andyou aren't going to get hurt.

The air is Nitrious Oxide.

Ask to go to a pediatric dentist. They specialize in this area.

I useto think there was a ghost in my house and couldn't go to sleep because of it. There was always sounds coming from the attic and I had never looked in there to see what it was. I was always scared of them as a child until I learned that they can't do anything to me.

Not scared of anything now though alien.gif
Rainbow Rowan
Actually the dark pretty much scared the wits out of me. Sometimes when I turn off the light I run into bed and dive into the covers... just in case there is something out there to get me ph34r.gif

EDIT: I just noticed 101's post is almost identical to mine LOL
