I was and still am afraid of rats. I had frequent dreams of not being able to move, flat on my back, and a giant rat with glowing red eyes, huge yellow teeth and rancid breath would be gnawing the flesh off my face. I would wake up and was told that I had been wimpering or screaming in my sleep. I also had to sleep with my toes completely under the covers, they couldn't be sticking out even a little bit, because as everyone knows the monsters can't get you unless your feet are exposed. It wasn't so much that they would get me but I couldn't take the chance that rats would bite my toes off if they could see them.

Sweet dreams everyone.

Wow, I can't believe so many people are afraid of the same things! I feel much better! I had no idea so many people hated clowns. Yay! My whole family still makes fun of me to this day for that and say I'm the only one. Hah! Weird though because I used to watch Bozo the Clown all the time. I think I don't like them because I came to the conclusion that they must be wearing all that make-up because they were scary monsters underneath.
I never slept well when I was little. Once we had to take my closet door off for a while, so my parents hung up a white sheet to make me feel better. Instead, the fan blew it around a little and the sheet bulged in places and looked like a skeleton was in there. No one got around to putting the door back for a long time, so I just had to deal with it. And naturally, something was under my bed, so I couldn't sleep near the edge of the bed, but I couldn't sleep near the wall either because I was afraid that spiders would crawl into the bed from the wall. So I had to sleep in the exact middle of my bed, legs curled up and sheets pulled up to my neck so a vampire couldn't bite me. I also had to turn all my stuffed animals so they weren't looking at me. One was a cat and I once thought it's eyes turned red, so I hid it away and refused to look at it again since it was obviously demonically possessed. I also watched an Unsolved Mysteries episode in which a girl's bed levitated. I was always afraid that if I was bad, my bed would levitate. So weird.
Mirrors were bad too because of one of the Poltergeist movies. I still don't like them unless there's a lot of light in the room. That Bloody Mary thing made it worse I think. I hate Jack-in-the-boxes too! I forgot about them. Very creepy things. I had that girl My Buddy thing too, the one like Chucky, though I don't know why. That thing freaked me out so much. I think because I watched it at a slumber party and the girl's dad snuck outside and started tapping on the window. We were all screaming and thought we were going to die. I never forgave him for that.
I'd like to say I outgrew my fear of the dark, but nope. Just when I was finally able to sleep in the dark, I started seeing and hearing things, so now I need to have light all the time. So annoying.
And Babayagafamiliar - I've had to read the Divine Comedy a few times for school, and I loved Gustave Dore's illustrations! They helped me understand the book better. But yeah, they're definitely creepy! That's funny you mentioned that. I wouldn't want to look at that before I go to sleep!
Hey this is a really good thread!

Anyway, back on topic. Since I'm still a kid, I guess I'm afraid of the following.
-The dark
-clowns
-getting kidnapped or someone I care about getting kidnapped
-dying without accomplishing anything
-posessed dolls
-porceline dolls
-scary movies
-monsters under my bed

Grandparen'ts basement. I'd shut off the lights and head up a windy set of stairs that weren't very big at all. As I went up the stairs, I couldn't help but feel nervous that something might be just behind me, just almost...perhaps....ready to trip or grab on to my ankle. I never liked descending into the basement either unless someone else was with me. Of course, that fear subsided as a I got older...amazing what you fear as a kid.

When i was in yr 4 im in yr 9 now, and i still do it i always keep my mirror (its like a big cuboard mirror things with mirrors for sliding doors) i always put the mirror down too the side of my bed where my feet are, especially at night, i cant stand sleeping with it 1-2 feet from my head. I guess this started with a rumour made at school in yr 4. It stated if u say bloody marry 3 times intot he mirror or sumtin a ghost of that name would come out with knife and strangle u some people at my school said they got strangled. How lame everyone was back then. Anyway the main thing im scared of now at the age of 15 is if humanity will survive.

There were several things that terrified me as a child in the early 90's:
- Pee Wee Herman (but I slept with a Freddy Krueger doll...)
- The Britta Water guy.
- The Ziploc bag finger dude
- My older cousin with a towel wrapped over her head (got over it)

The video for Herbie Hancock's "Rockit". That video used to freak me out so badly I would hide behind the couch while my brothers watched it. I think i was about 4 years old when it came out. It was something about the robotic legs and heads that seemed very wrong to me. But now, I think it's cool, some 20 years later.
