I've watched half way through the series of FMP, seen some in Japanese and some in dubbed, I have to say it is pretty good either way. Dunno whatever happened to finish watching the series though, lol. I'll probably get to Fumoffu after I am done with the first FMP

There is also the third series FMP: The Second Raid which enmphasises on action. Its on torent at the mo, I've got the first 6 eps, but never gotten around to watching them.

QUOTE
A lot of my friends have been reccomending Azumanga Daioh. I've never heard one bad comment about it, hopefully it won't be a let down for me. I've been avoiding it because it looks like one of those animes of pure comedy.

It is pure comedy tongue.gif Thats the point of it. It has no other plot line than making people laugh laugh.gif

But the English dub sucks.... seriously, the actors couldn't deliver a line to save themselves.

Love Hina at least was watchable as the jokes were more in the character's actions rather than words. But Azumanga realies as much on what the character's say as what they do, and completely suffers because of it. I actually enhoyed the Love Hina anime for the first few episodes, but its weaknesses as a show let along its actors began to increase as the show went on, and the Spring Break movie was totally crap.

Osaka's Japanese actor is the funniest person in the show, the English voice actor is terrible. I mean Texan accent for Osaka?! My god?! wacko.gif

I haven't seen the commercial yet but Naruto is coming to Cartoon Network September 10th (USA). I heard they screwed up Naruto's voice so bad. If they did, I'm not even sure if it's worth watching.
Euphoric Deception
^ I have heard the voice actor for Naruto is the same person who played as Spike Spiegel from Cowboy Bebop. He's a decent voice actor and all but I really can't see him as Naruto.. Maybe Shikamaru or Kiba. Sakura's voice will be Misty's voice actor from Pokemon.
I'm not looking forward to this.
Talon
QUOTE

She is actually quite capable of doing good voice acting. She did Utena's voice in Revolutionary Girl Utena, and she was good. The question is will she treat the show seriously like Utena, or just as a view it as a means to a paycheck like Pokemon.
Euphoric Deception
^ I have only heard her act in Pokemon so I wouldn't know how to compare between those two. But the squeakiness is what bothered me a bit. I think Sakura suits her though.

Love Hina... It seems like there's a whole genre of anime dedicated to the "dork moves in with lots of hot girls" plot. I mean I can see one movie in that theme, but this is ridiculous.

There is a whole genre of anime dedicated to the "dork moves in with lots of hot girls" plot, its called Harem Anime. tongue.gif Its one of the most popular anime genres, the same as there are tons of Mech anime, Sports anime or Fantasy anime etc etc. There are thousands.

Off hand alone I can think off;
Oh My Goddess!, El-Hazard, A.I., Love Hina, Ranma 1/2, Mahoromatic, Girls Bravo, Maburaho, Negima, Happy Lesson, Hand Maid May, Di Capo, although Tenchi Muyo is really the one which took the genre to a new level (although its actually a rather late entry)

Animes like Fruits Basket and Fushigi Yuugi are also like Harem only with 1 female surounded by males.
Talon
I mean dude, saying just one movie should have had that plot would have been like saying the Magical Girl genre should have died after Mahoutsukai Sally came out in 1966.
I for one am quite happy the genre then gave birth to;
Cardcaptor Sakura, Sailor Moon, Mol Diver, Lyrical Girl Nonoha, Tokyo Mew Mew, Magic Knight Rayearth, Pretty Sammy and Pretty Cure + a hundred others.

god.... an anime collection without Pretty Sammy: Magical Project S....... the horror blink.gif

Your welcome to them, but you need to watch more anime. huh.gif Many of the dubbing companies, and by that I really just mean ADV and Geneon (and the odd Funimation title), are actually getting much better with every dub. Most of my collection (which is extensive) I've found most of the titles dubbed since 2001 have high quality dubbing, where the majority of the main actors can indeed act.
How big is your collection btw? original.gif

On other issues I have continued to enrich my knowledge with viewings of Torent anime, including

D4 Princess - ......... er...... weird
Ultimate Girls - ........er weird
Gluaken Alice - very good and I'd recommend everyone to see it
Kanon - typical herim with cute girls
Shuffle! - only seen episode one, but looks promising
Stratos 4 Advance - just the continuation for Stratos 4... not a great anime, but I find it enjoyable.

Interestingly, despite having it, I've never gotten around to seeing series three of Full Metal Panic (Second Raid) ... or for that mater Da Capo which I also have.

Currenly I'm in the proccess of collecting Smash Hit and Uta Kata which I have heard much about. I'm also going for Battle Programmer Shirase.. which to be honest, I don't really care about, but I feel it is my duty as a Misaao Amano fan to get this anime... even though the Misao Amano in it is only barely resembles the Magical Project S version, sharing only the name, a vague resemblances, and with any luck the same voice actor.... but no Pretty Sammy sidekick crying.gif

I don't come from the US, so I don't get adult swim. I first saw Escaflowne 5 or 6 years ago on Fox Kids. It was one of the first series I ever saw.
I then imported it from the US around 3 years back.

I must admit I haven't watched it in around 2 years though. Still, I remember enough it.
Greeling
man i'm glad i hardly ever watch my stuff off tv (is it true they butchered tokyo mew mew?) though it is annoying that i cant remember when i can stream what. i bet they already finished he is my master ;_; oh well i'll just go get the manga scans whatever.... maybe i'll start downloading again... hmmmm...

as for voice actors meh... i don't really care i used to get my anime back in the dark days of vhs and subs were hard to find for me so i just went with dubs and i it never really bothered me and as long as the translation is good. and as for azumanga osaka has a huston accent for two reasons 1 she is from osaka and wold have a kansai accent and 2 adv is in huston so they used it because it was conveninant.
Super Pancake
Talon I think she meant Escaflowne the movie. I saw the original before the Adult Swim version. The dubbing is horrible sometimes the translations did not come out right, that It felt like two characters seemed like they were talking in a different conversation. At least it was unedited they left the blood in it. ohmy.gif

I also hate when U.S. networks do a shitty job on translations and hate when they edit out some parts.

Not sure exactly what you mean by that but I usually get all my anime from torrents. Other times, I would by DVDs for the rares like Fist of the North Star. I can try to list every anime I have watched if thats what you meant. (Though I can't gaurantee that I have finished the series)

I know why she has a weird accent, I have seen the show in both Japanese and English. My point was the accent was the worse possible accent for the character, it didn't fit her at all. There are a million different accents they could have choosen to represent Osaka dialect, but they insist in using Sourthern US. It may have been less annoying if the actor could actually deliver a joke.

We all hate it when they do awful dubs or translations. Funimation seems particularly bad at picking voice actors. But I can understand some edits when it comes to tv, I for example didn't mind them cutting out all the nudity if it meant Dragon Ball could be shown on TV, however there should always be uncut DVDs avaliable.

Nah, I was just looking for a rough number
I have 53 GB of torrents DLed and around 600-700 DVDs/VHSs (its been a while since I've counted), I haven't actually bought that many DVDs as off recent, I've started DLing more. I could list every anime I've seen... but it would take time.

I've only been watching anime for 5 years myself. I actually still get plenty of people (the ones who've been watching since teh 1980s etc) who keep calling me a newbie despite the fact my title count eclipses theirs' easily. Actually I've only met one person who wasn't online who even came close to watching as much as me. Finding people online who watch to much anime however is all to easy.

Bahamut_0 you like robots try Ghost in the Shell. They have two movies "Ghost in the Shell," and "Ghost in the Shell Innocence" I love both of them! Their is also a series season two came out on dvd a few months ago the Series is called "Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex.

There is this cult anime series "Beserk' very dark stuff.

I almost never watch anything on TV . I dont even have cable tongue.gif

Bit torrent works for getting anime , and whenever something good comes out I will buy it on DVD . American TV ussually censors anime way to much and often destroys the original meaning of what the creators intended too much for it to be worth watching .

PS - How's everyone been since Ive been gone ?

Double PS - New quick edit feature is awesome

seen 1/2 of chrno crusade - enjoying it

soul taker - never seen it

burst angel - never seen it but have been recomended it

azumanga daioh - fantastic in Japanese, rubbish in English

rorouni kenshin - excellent series both the OVAs and series

neon genesis evangelion - really depressing series, totally depressing movie. Still, I enjoyed it... after it grew on me

I think you should watch at least;
Noir
Oh My Goddess
Fruits Basket
Full Metal Panic
Full Metal Panic: Fummuffo
Full Metal Panic: The Second Raid
Magical Lyrical Girl Nonoha
Tenchi Muyo
Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex

However, ultimately it really depends on your taste in titles. For example if you like cutesy characters you'll stick to magic girl anime. If you like fanservie, things like Najica and Smash Hit would be more suitable. Comedy's can include most herim animes, but equally this genre can be quite adult on occation also.
And if you like angst anime.... I'm not the person to ask.

thank u guys for your answers, i myself i like almost every type of anime, about berserk my friend also haves it (he only likes violent animes, he's crazy)

I've watched najica but i didn't liked it very much because it was too much eechi for me (but i watched the whole serie anyway), i mean, every 2 to 5 seconds u would see a girls panties, i prefer to listen to the Tengou Tenge soundtrack rather then see that anime.(and no, i never watched Tengou Tenge, i just got a cd with a Tengou Tenge soundtrack from another friend)

i've watched rorouni kenshin, DB, tenchi muyo (the first series) and evangelion when i was 6 (it was the first anime that got to Portugal [along with the others that i mentioned] , in national television and it was in the japanese version, probably not the best anime for children)

I have the first ghost in the shell movie and my friend can get me the second and the series, i'll take a look into macross plus.

I've also been considerating getting Love hina, do u think its worth it?
i heard pretty good comments about it.

Got so much too choose from that i don't even know where to begin...

Talon, when u talk about the Evangelion movie being depressing , u're talking about the one in wich Asuka dies right? cos i think that there is another one.

I probably got a lot of errors in this sentences but i dont know how to correct them sad.gif ...

Love Hina has a lot of mixed reviews. Most people like the first half, but feel its just repeating itself by the second. I'd agree with that. I loved the first three DVDs of Hina, but but volume 4 I was thinking 'How much longer?'
To be fair, its because the DVDs were released over a year, 2 months apart, so part of my apathy for the second half was due to it being a year since I'd seen DVD one. I'd recomend seeing it. But don't watch the specials until you've seen the series. Love Hina Spring Special was the first Love Hina ep I saw, and it didn't make any sense to me until I'd seen the series 2 years later.

QUOTE
Talon, when u talk about the Evangelion movie being depressing , u're talking about the one in wich Asuka dies right? cos i think that there is another one.

There were two movies. Death and Rebirth. Death was just a 1 hour long 'last time on EVA' were it described everything that happened in the series (and actually made it clearer) and then the first 30 minutes of Rebirth, ending just before Asuka fights the mass produced Evas.
Rebirth is the proper sequal to EVA, in that its based straight after, and is famous for its Asuka vs 7 Evas fight. And yeah, I don't want to spoil it for people who haven't seen it, but people die......... lots of people.

I only have the first 3 DVDs so I can't speak for all of it, but I've enjoyed what I've seen so far. To be honest my attention was limited when watching DVD 2... I was doing something... probably watching DLed anime from Japan. I should probably go backl and watch it again, DVD was really good. I do like the art, and the story, it has the feel of an RPG actually... only watching instead of playing.

Has anybody read the GITS manga and seen the anime movie? I've read the manga, and I'm interested in how the movie compares to it.
Talon
I've never read the manga only flipped through it. From what I've heard though, its GIT: SAC which is closer in feel to the manga than the movies. I'd recomend seeing both the first movie and the series, but they have very different feels from each other.
If nothing else, the movie is considered one of the classics of sci-fi anime, you have to see it... its like the law. tongue.gif

Thanks, I think I'll rummage through the reviews on Amazon.com. Nobody I know owns any of those, so I'll have to buy to find out.
Btw: I read the manga, but still didn't really know what was going on. grin2.gif

Well the basic background story is its 2030 (somewhere around that) and focuses on a police special forces unit (I beleive it called Section 9). In this future technology has gotten to a point were humans can be enhanced by machinary and computers. Many humans are even completely machine, the only part of them that remains over is the 'ghost' which is their conscious self - the soul if you want. The main female character is an example of this. Her human body was wasted before the series began (I don't think the series has explained how so far) and her new body is completely robotic. Other characters are not as far gone as this, Bouto for example has a large number of impants most obvioiusly is eyes, but he's still got many original human parts. Other members have things such as robot legs etc. The only completely human characters of Section 9 are the chief and the youngest member whose name escapes me. The common technological upgrade most humans have is a chip that allows them to talk to each other mentally (like a phone in your head) or go online.
So basically was this group does is they investigate crimes involving high levels of technology.

*spoilers*

In the movie the story is about a ghost called the Puppet Master who is going from body to body causing choas and they're trying to track it down.
In the series season 1 SAC many of the episodes are stand alone, but the main story-line is their dealings with a master hacker called Laughing Man who can hack into people who have computerised brains.
In season 2 they are dealing with a terrorist group called The Individual Eleven. I can't really say much about this series as I've only seen episode 1 (which was utterly fantastic).

*end spoilers*

I must admit, although I like ghost in the shell anime, it is very complex and sometimes it takes serveral veiwings to understand it all, so the manga may be like that. I also, as much as I like it, don't watch it often (I prefer magical Girl and herim anime), so a proper GITS fan will probably be able to point out errors in my overview.

I understand the setting and backstory. The Puppet Master was the main plot, but there were two or three other missions that were also happening at the same time. I also thought Major Kusanagi had a brain? Maybe I'm confusing her with Alita.

Some parts of it are very philsohpical, like Matrix:Reloaded and Revoltions. (Which is the main reason people didn't like those two and why GITS requires a couple of readings)

Her sidekick uses it to contact her once, but accidently sees her messing around with two other girls. (All three are jacked into a computer) When she realises he his watching, she makes him hit himself with his own hand! grin2.gif

(BTW: Herim is actually spelled harem, that is if you are talking about a bunch of girls and one guy. )

Poo for that little trailer. I've found the one that's 5 and a half minutes long!

It pauses to buffer about ever 2 seconds, so I reccomend "Save Target As".

The movie is much like that, very philisohpical, very atmospheric art work, and haunting classical-eastern style music.
The series is less philisohpical, with flashy fight scenes, big action sequences and Japanese techno-music.
Basically the movie wanted to be a unforgettable classic, while the series wants to be a hit sci-fi cop drama. Both succeed in their goals.

Yeah, Motoko is a lesbian in the Manga I beleive and bisexual in SAC.... or is it the other way around... either way she has these two cute lesbians she has a sleep over with in episode 7 of SAC. The movie doesn't make reference to her sexuality.

Eh, who cares? tongue.gif All I know is it comes from the name of the living quarters for wives and concubines for an Arab king, such as in the Ottomon Empire e.g. 1 guy, tons of women.

I'll get onto it tonight thumbsup.gif Currently I'm DLing anime (Da Capoo eps 25-26; Shuffle episode 2; Pretty Cure 37; and Air) and its taking up to much of my connection - God I love anime.

From what I've seen of Hellsing it looks like its going to be very good. And thankfully it wont end half-way through, this series is just going to go on until the very end of the Millenuim Nazis story line... what a name to call the main villians wacko.gif

No not yet. Actually to brutally honest I'm still DLing it and the last few eps of D4 Princess. I included it in the list because I was convinced it would be done by now wacko.gif laugh.gif

I'm expecting a lot from it though, I've heard good things about it, so I hope it doesn't turn out to be a huge let-down like Akira and Rayearth (which were crap laugh.gif ).
Talon
Oh note I just finsihed DLing the 1998 OVA Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou. Now my next 30 minutes will be trying to get a OGM file to work. Seriously, why can't everyone just use avi?

Well, their organization -is- called Millenium, and they -are- Nazis... But back on subject. Since it's an OAV they can release episodes at their own pace, which means it'll probably follow the manga very closely, unlike the TV anime...*cougheveryonehatesIncognitocough* Only 2 more volumes to be released in Japan, which means at least 2 more years until the OAV's finished. And I hope they leave in the humorous bits, like the spirits of the guns.

They will retain the humour. Anime Insider did an interview with the manga author and the shows director and they asked if the humour would be in it and the director said yes. HGe said that it would follow the manga almost word for word because thats ultimately what the fans want. The only areas they would change he said were areas that didn't translate well from manga to anime, or could be expanded such as fight-scenes.
