hey Talon, do you know if Madlax is a good anime? I've been re-reading a few newtype magazines and I just came across it, so was wondering if its worthwhile in getting a few episodes of it.
Talon
I've never seen it since it is only avavaible in North America............... huh.gif like thats ever stopped me before laugh.gif

Anyway, I've heard nothing but favourable things about it. Its directed and written by the same guy who made Nior, and it supposed to be very similar to it (i.e. girls and guns, rather dark, and lost shared history) - Margaret Burton is almost a dead ringer for Nior's Kirikia Yummera.

I'd certainly get it if it was avaiable in the UK. The biggest obbstical in the way of either of us getting is that we'd have to import it, which can be costly if you're hit with import fees (I've had DVD cost as much as £33 after import fees where added, twice that of the £15 DVDs are supposed to here).

I don't know how much experience you have with imports, but if you're going to import them I recomend this site - http://www.caimanzone.co.uk/ .
I've bought hundreds of DVDs from America and these guys are easily the best. The DVD's are cheap and I've never had import fees with them (which can cost as much as the DVD themselves). Plus I checked out their Madlax offers, they've only got vol 1 and 3, but they only cost £10.95 thumbsup.gif

Before you do anything though I'd watch UK's Nior, which its supposed to be very similar too. If you like that (which I did grin2.gif ) this should be great veiwing thumbsup.gif

I guess this goes out to the americans who have TCM (Turner Classic Movies) its come to my attention that they play anime every thurday at 8pm pacific time. I don't know if its just for this month or its a long time thing they did, I never watched tmc before axcept for one time when i saw Casablanca.

Last thursday they showed My neighbor Tutorou, porco rosso, and Whisper of the Heart they were all excellent films, trully anime extacy.

Anyway tommorow their showing Only Yesterday I heard so much about this film, its a shame Disney has not released it yet on dvd in the states after more then 15 years it been released. Finally I will get my chance to see it. Pom Poko is also going to be on right after it, I already seen the film, nature lovers will love it and I reccomend it to all anime fans.

edit: I gues its a one time thing there doing

Hayao Miyazaki Profile

Known as the "Japanese Walt Disney," Hayao Miyazaki is one of his country's outstanding directors of animation. His internationally admired animated adventures include the epic Princess Mononoke (1997), a tale of a mythic battle between humans and forest animal gods that at one time was the highest-grossing film in Japan's history. It was later surpassed by an even bigger boxoffice hit, Miyazaki's Spirited Away (2001), in which a young girl stumbles into a mysterious spirit world.

In the month of Miyazaki's 65th birthday, we proudly present the TCM premieres of many of his works, including both English-dubbed versions and Japanese originals with English subtitles. Along with the exquisite artwork, his films are celebrated for their captivating characters, involving stories and ecological and humane concerns.

Born in Tokyo, Miyazaki began as an animator in 1963 and worked on many early classics of Japanese animation. After extensive experience in television, he began directing features in 1979 and scored a particular success with Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind (1984), the tale of a peace-seeking warrior princess that was based on a comic he had created two years earlier.

Miyazaki's films often have a fairy-tale spirit, with winsome young protagonists and magical settings. In Castle in the Sky (1986), a boy and girl travel to a floating castle. My Neighbor Totoro (1988) concerns two girls who find magical creatures in a mystical forest. Porco Rosso (1992) tells of a World War I flying ace who happens to be a pig. And Whisper of the Heart (1995), written by Miyazaki and directed by his protege Yoshifumi Kondo, is a simple tale of a bookish girl who falls in love.

In addition to writing, producing and directing many of his own films, Miyazaki has produced a number of movies made by other animators including his longtime collaborator Isao Takahata, for whom he served as executive producer on Only Yesterday (1991) and Pom Poko (1994).

I love talking anime grin2.gif

What shows are you're favourites? If I know the type of thing you like I can know what to recommend.
I DL a lot too, but I also import a lot of DVDs (in fact Battle Skipper the series and Detatoko Princess just came through the door today, while Alien Nine and Galaxy Fraulien Yuna came in yesterday (both really weird animes wacko.gif )... I'm quite the addict. laugh.gif

My favourite DLed series at the moment are;

Mai Otome (spin off of Mai Hime)
http://www.animesuki.com/series.php/686.html

Kashimashi~Girl Meets Girl~ (a comedy about a guy who gets turned into a girl)
http://www.animesuki.com/series.php/739.html

Karin (a comedy about a vampiress who goes to a human school)
http://www.animesuki.com/series.php/704.html

Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha (starts of as a Magic girl show, but quickly evolves into a very very good sci-fi action show)
Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha A's (its sequal)
http://www.animesuki.com/series.php/515.html
http://www.animesuki.com/series.php/690.html

Gunparade Orchestra (spin off of the licenced Gunparade March, kind like Evangelion, only not as depressing)
http://www.animesuki.com/series.php/712.html

Air (one of the best series I've seen, but harmed by its angst ending)
http://www.animesuki.com/series.php/468.html

Final Fantasy VII: Last Order (prequal to FF7 the video game... won't make much sense if you haven't played the game, but if have - GET IT!)
http://www.animesuki.com/series.php/676.html

Full Metal Panic! The Second Raid (third in the FMP series, more action orientated that the other two - very good)
http://www.animesuki.com/series.php/591.html

Gokujou Seitokai (All girl's school comedy, hilarious, like Maria-sama ga Miteru on crack)
http://www.animesuki.com/series.php/605.html

Maria-sama ga Miteru
Maria-sama ga Miteru - Spring (All girl's school shoujo-ai series.... only DL if you like shoujo-ai anime)
http://www.animesuki.com/series.php/313.html
http://www.animesuki.com/series.php/453.html

Pretty Cure (very good Magic Girl series)
Pretty Cure Max Heart
http://www.animesuki.com/series.php/353.html
http://www.animesuki.com/series.php/711.html

Of the lisenced anime, I'd recommend - Burst Angel, ROD, ROD TV, Utena, Ghost in the Shell SAC, Full Metal Panic, Oh My Goddess, Tenchi Muyo, Tenchi Universe, Fruits Basket and Nior.
Unclassified Weapon
Anime rocks. There are certain places anime can go that a normal cartoon cannot. Its immense detail. The issues they address. For over a year ive been watching anime, starting off with the really bland types, Dragonball Z, Gundam Wing and Outlaw star. Since then i have encountered many new differant genres and series. At the moment i am watching Bleach, Naruto (quite boring atm) and some various anime i often download Ninja scroll or eyeshield 21. Most of all im watching Great teacher Onizuka whos immature, mature pervertedness and issue tackling episodes are always a pleasure to watch

the best i've ever seen was neon genesis evangelion, full moon wa sagash**e and kimi ga nozomu eien, these were just legendary (atleast for me original.gif ). i like anime like this most (psychological/emotional) , da capo, to heart, aish**eru ze baby, mai hime all of these were awsome wub.gif . besides that i watch comedy type (like mamote shugogeten, girls bravo, mahou sensei negima and so on), though i've watched most theme/type anime, cant say i dislike any of them thumbsup.gif

"Mai Otome (spin off of Mai Hime)"
watching now, pretty interesting, though i think mai hime was better

"Karin (a comedy about a vampiress who goes to a human school)"
still have a torrent somewhere, but didnt dl yet

"Air (one of the best series I've seen, but harmed by its angst ending)"
was gona dl, but things just kept coming up.

"Final Fantasy VII: Last Order (prequal to FF7 the video game... won't make much sense if you haven't played the game, but if have - GET IT!)"
Seen, a bit confusing since i didnt play the game much

"Full Metal Panic! The Second Raid (third in the FMP series, more action orientated that the other two - very good)"
seen all of em - awsome original.gif

I've got evangelion on DVD. And I've DLed and watched Mai hime. I've DLed da capo, to heart, aish**eru ze baby, and kimi ga nozomu eien but not yet watched them (I DL so much I've got about 50 GB I still haven't watched yet on my Harddrive).

Mai Hime was very much just a magic girl anime aimed at Older Teens and Adults rather than little girls. I'm prefering Mai Otome, I miss the short skirtsof Hime though, but I like the comedy. However, I think Mai Hime wis more of a classic.

Air, is very emotional and psychological I would say.
Gunslinger Girl is very emotional and psychological, as is Noir... they're also both rather dark.... both about girl assassins.

Fatestay Night Stay is another one which has just come out which has a lot of potential to be rather emotional, its rather dark, about warriors in modern day using magic to fight over the Holy Grail.

Blood + is another one thats avaiavable to DL. Its the spin off of the Blood: The Last Vampire Movie a few years back. Pretty atmospheric, and psychological. I've got the first 13 eps, but I've only watched the first 4 so far.

Although personally, I like funny, cute animes.

Yeah, you need to have played the game, its essecially the animed version of a flashback which happens in the game, but makes no sense without having played it.

There are a LOT of others I'd also recomend, but those are my favourites of my DLed animes, and the must- sees of the liscenced ones.
However, if you like psychological/emotional animes, I'm not sure Maria-sama ga Miteru will be you're thing since its a shoujo-ai romance anime, and Gokujou Seitokai was escially a comedy version of it.

I also DLed Shuffle, it was a Hearim anime, looked quite good, but I've only seen the first 5 eps.

I've heard good things about it, but I haven't got it yet.
Talon
Okay I got some info on the anime voice actors doing the movie voices

Wally Wingert as Rufus ShinRa

Kevin Michael Richardson as Barret Wallace

Paul Dobson as Sephiroth

Chris Edgerly as Cid Highwind

Steve Burton as Cloud Strife

Michelle Ruff as Elena

First off Paul Dobson is a good voice actor, and most anime fans will know him as Folken Fanal from Escaflowne (and Zarbon from DBZ... but lets pretend that never happened)... however... I just can't picture that voice with sephiroth. I'm kinda worried.

Michelle Ruff should be fine, she's in a lot of stuff and had a lot of main title roles, e.g. Chobits, now I praticularly liked her as Kasumi in Hand Maid May, but I think that voice is waaay to young for Elena. Hopefully she'll play the character a little older than Kasumi, but she should be okay. Not that it really matters, she has two lines.

Wally Wingert I'll admit I have no idea of. He's only been in like 12 animes, and I've never seen any of them. I really hope they've picked someone who can play the part. It should be noted, he's the voice actor who played the narrator for the promotional video, but there is a big difference between reading a promo and breathing life into a character.

Kevin Michael Richardson isn't really an anime voice actor, he's done a few things like Pokemon but he mainly does US cartoons. He's been in stuff like Teen Titains as minor characters. He was also Goro in the 1995 movie Mortal Kombat (god rather movie sucked). He's also the joker in 'The Batman' series, but its hard to go by given he's playing a lunatic.

As for the others, none of them are anime voice actors, so I have no idea who they are, but I did find links to work they've done;

Chris Edgerly - http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0249283/

Steve Burton - http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0123733/

Christy Carlson Romano as Yuffie Kisaragi
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0005579/
Never heard of her, certainly no anime titles to her name.

Mandy Moore as Aeris Gainsborough
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0601553/
Never heard of her

....and Lance Bass as Sephiroth
.... could they make up their minds please?
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0004726/ According to this he was Seph in Kingdom hearts

They should make a Resident Evil anime sad.gif But not butcher it like Hollywood did to the movies. 26 episodes evolved to RE0, 1, 2, 3, and the Outbreak series. Basically a prelude Umbrella episode and then up to the nuking of Racoon City. It would be great.
