Well maybe if they didn't do such a horrible dubbing job, more people would pay for the DVD rather than download the fansubs.

That’s a poor excuse to justify stealing. First, Ghost in the Shell is very well dubbed. Second, if you don't like the dub, the DVD has the original Japanese version with subtitles available. When you buy a DVD your paying for the wages of the guys who made it, for the production of future titles, and for the anime as a whole, not just the english audio.
I don't have a problem with people DLing anime that is unavailable in their area, how else are they supposed to get it since Japanese DVDs don't have English subtitles. However DLing titles that are available in your area is stealing and is killing the anime industry, and those who do DL anime they could by in a local show and don't pay their fair share are no more than thieving scum who are worthy of only contempt.

I don't download television shows or movies, personally, and being a content developer myself I tend to generally agree with you on intellectual property rights. However, not all DVD's give you the option of viewing subtitles. I bought the special edition of Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade and Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust, and neither one offered English subtitles. It was either listen to their annoying dub job or try to learn Japanese.
Talon
Then buy the DVD and then DL the Japanese version. If your watching the show, you should pay for it. Its one thing DLing Hollywood movies that millions, but many anime companies barely break-even, in fact over the last 10 years many have folded.

oh i see well you can understand there premature action, Naruto is just one of the few anime that get release here and I would argue that it is better then most of the official u.s. releases that do get here.

I wouldn't call it the greatest anime ever far from it I only like it because its good clean mindless anime action like DBZ or Yu Yu Hakusho. Anyway it somewhat starts off slow then it pick up around the chunine exams then it goes off it to filler mode so much so i hear that its far from the story line of its manga, the first 2 movies were good for what it is i still catch the new fansubs.

I would suggest not to pursue the series if you did not like anime like DBZ or anime like DBZ.

I liked DBZ for a bit of mindless action, although it was not a great anime, just an enjoyable one.
To be fair, I was quite liking the Naratu I’ve seen so far, just don’t think its as good as the hype… but far better than the One Piece and Rave Master which were also hyped by American fans before making their way here.

Well I finished the entire Full Metal Panic series (1st season, Fumoffu, The 2nd Raid and the OVA). Honestly, some of the best shows I have -ever- seen. Couldnt have picked a better starter anime I think.

Now I feel this..almost empty void without more of it watch. I already miss Sousuke..Kaname..Tessa..everyone. I just felt myself so connected to the characters, so concerend about what would happen next to them. I felt scared when Kaname was all alone after Sousuke was ordered to leave..felt anger when Gauron was telling Sousuke he killed her (thank god he didnt, though close call).

I'm going to buy them all now where I can find them. I have seen a few downtown at the only shop we have that sells anime stuff so that made me happy. Otherwise I guess I'll get them off ebay.

I've started to watch Azumanga daioh. I've only watched the first episode so far and it was ok. But I've been told it will get better so thats good.

According to the October issue of Newtype (Japan) (On sale September 10), four new Evangelion movies are in the works. The four movies will include a prequel, a mid-series movie, a sequel and a "final" movie. The prequel movie is due out early summer 2007.

While the new story will be set during the same time frame as the original TV series, Newtype states that it will be an entirely new project, not be a remake or improvement of any sort. Newtype also mentions that viewers will not need to have already seen previous Evangelion material in order to understand and enjoy the new movies.

Hideaki Anno will write the scenario for the first movie and will be the general director and manager for the entire project. Kazuya Tsurumaki will direct the movies while Yoshiyuki Sadamoto will provide character designs and Ikuto Yamash**a will provide mechanical designs. Shinji Higuchi will provide storyboards for the first movie.

Khara, a new studio that shares office space with Gainax, was recently set up and is seeking production staff to work on Anno's new project.

Doesn't surprise me. The anime and movie series ended a while ago, but they've been bringing out games and manga of it since then (most notably Angelic Days which is an alternative telling based on the alternative world Shinji saw in the last few eps). Also since the series ended they've brought out multiple special editions, directors cuts, and increased animated quality versions of the series every few years. Gainax who make it one of these companies that are know to get every piece of money's worth out of series before abandoning it. Since Eva's so popular, there is still a lot of money left there.

As for Eva, yes its very serious, and very surreal and philosophical. Also very dark, it starts out trying to have comedy elements then abandons them for angst half-way through. Took me ages to start to like it for this reason. The movies are even darker since they deal with the apocalypse.

I just amazes me how long people in Japan can continue to be interested in a series. Most of the people that I know who were into Pokemon and DBZ at their peak aren't into that stuff anymore. But in Japan there are still fans of those series years and years after they end. huh.gif

First, it not just a Japanese thing. There are plenty of people around the planet who still like Pokemon and DBZ right now, just as in Japan, hell in Britain there is talk of introducing Pokemon into children's maths books to make them more interesting. Second, you can forget a series can renew its fanbase even as older members leave it, eg many children who liked Pokemon when it first came out wont now, but there will be children who weren't even born then who will now. Its the same for anything not just anime. Star Trek, Doctor Who, Star Wars etc all all insanely popular today despite comming about in the 1960s, why? Because many of the fans stuck with it, but even more so they were able just to get new fan bases from newer generations, or those previously who didn't watch them.

Yeah, I guess so. Over here, it seems that Pokemon's pretty much fizzeled out. Like I said, I like stuff (Pink Floyd, Star Wars, Monty Python) that came out decades before I was even born. It's that some series go through a period where they have a great deal of popularity, and Pokemon was huge when it first came to America. However, that 'boom' seems to be over now. But it just seems to me that the japanese sustain mass interest in a thing longer than we do over here. Like you said about eva, it might also be because the get more movie and shows that don't make it eleswhere and that keeps a good deal of public interest.

In other news, I must say I'm slowly becomming addicted to Naruto. I'm currently at the part where they've just finished the forest trial and all I want to do is watch more. I've been avoiding this title for the last two years because of all the hype the American fans have been giving it (the same group that hyped Yu Yu Hakusho, One Peice and Rave Master.... which are all cr*p), but I have to admit that while its not the greatest series I've seen by any means, it is one series that actually lives up to the hype.

Geez, this topic is still going? I would have thought that it've died out by now.

I'm just getting around to eva right now, and I'm not terribly enthused by it. I feel as though a lot of the elements in it I've seen in other shows before. The fact that I hate half of the characters already doesn't help much either. Additionally, I'm not a fan of mechs due to them being in another show that I liked for no apparent reason. I've only watched ten episodes so far, so I might change how I feel about it after I finish it. It just doesn't seem to be the "greatest show evar" that many people make it out to be.

I must say I am really enjoying both, thank god those fillers seasons have ended. I do find the Vizzard completely annoying those, the Arancaar are much better villains. Have you seen the new intro for episode 122, by the looks of it some major plot-line around Orihime is going to happen, which is good cause we need more Orihime.
When you say Naruto btw, is it the original Naruto or the Hurricane Chronicles? Because although I’m enjoying HC a lot more than the fillers, I’m worried that by the looks of it they are going to turn it into another Drag-on Ball Z

Maybe, it was made by the same guys as Noir (fantastic anime) and Madlax (average anime) both of which had yuri in it. So fingers crossed.

Its an old school fantasy anime, I like fantasy so I’m hoping for the best. Its roughy about demons called Yoma stalk the land and eat people and the only people strong enough to take them on are a sisterhood of knights called the Claymores. Problem is that the Claymore’s to gain their strength become half Yoma and will eventually become a Yoma. It follows the life of one Claymore called Clair.

And before anyone starts complaining I’ve spoiled, I’ve just summed up the blurb.

Edit: oops sorry MoonPrincess I hope you did not read my post just realized AS means Adult Swim, so you probably don't know what Talon and I are talking about.

Most anime fans watch fansub released versions of anime that probably wont reach our countries with official dub versions for a year maybe 10 years and often likely never, same with manga. With the introduction to high speed internet connection most of us have, fansubs can quickly get on the net straight from there airing in japan within 24 hours to a week. Example new episodes of Naruto air in Japan on Thursdays, I get my fansub from Dattebayo which is a very good speed sub fansub group, I'm usually able to get the new episode of Naruto the very same day the show aired (Thursday my time zone).

But with downloading anime comes with a moral decision I suggest you consider. If your going to download you might as well support the anime or manga buy buying the dvd/manga when it comes to your country. hop[efully anime studios will think about getting anime out faster and networks like cartoon network will pick up more anime to air in the U.S. I usually buy one or two dvd/box-sets, and/or manga compilations a month of anime I watch. Its not that expensive to me I usually spend less then 50 bucks.

When you say dragon ball z do you mean a super powerful bad guy comes to destroy the village or some other village just for the hell of it and some how naruto and or his friends finds the strength to beat him/her.

Well I read on ahead of the show by reading the manga it does not look like it will be a dragon ball z.
The story is still centered around Naruto journey to be Hokage, saving Sasuke from Orochimaru, Sauke's journey to kill his brother Itachi, it also seems like they will have to deal with the recently revealed plot of Akatsuki. That is what I gather from the manga I wont say more wouldn't want to spoil it for you, if you want to find out more you can do a google search for some of the translated Naruto manga and read them.

However I do expect the show to catch up with the manga so we should expect more fillers I can already see it there are some events we know that went on but did not get to see in the manga so I expect the show to divert from the story to either show us the background events of the manga in detail, or skip it and use the given extra time to create filler episodes.

The fillers aren't that bad in my opinion I read the naruto manga since day one and I appreciate the fillers cause it gave background stories to characters we never get to see much in the manga. Some of my favorite episodes were fillers like the one episode when Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura wanted to find out what kakashi's face looked like.
