India finds more 'tsunami gifts'
Indian divers have found more evidence of an ancient port city, apparently revealed by December's tsunami.
Stone structures that are "clearly man-made" were seen on the seabed off the south coast, archaeologists say.

They could be part of the mythical city of Mahabalipuram, which legend says was so beautiful that the gods sent a flood that engulfed six of its seven temples.

Other relics were revealed when the powerful waves washed away sand as they smashed into the Tamil Nadu coast.

'Clear pattern'

The Archaeological Survey of India launched the diving expedition after residents reported seeing a temple and other structures as the sea pulled back just before the tsunami hit.

The new finds were made close to the 7th Century beachfront Mahabalipuram temple, which some say is the structure that survived the wrath of the gods.

"We've found some stone structures which are clearly man-made," expedition leader Alok Tripathi told the AFP news agency.

"They're perfect rectangular blocks, arranged in a clear pattern."

The ancient "gifts" of the tsunami are expected to be presented to an international seminar on maritime archaeology in Delhi next month.

Other discoveries made at Mahabalipuram earlier this month include a granite lion of a similar age to the temple that experts believe had been buried for centuries before the tsunami shifted the sand.

Archaeologists have been working at the site for the last three years, since another diving expedition discovered what appeared to be a submerged city, including at least one temple.

The myths of Mahabalipuram were first written down by British traveller J Goldingham who was told of the "Seven Pagodas" when he visited in 1798.

Don't know about that . . seems to be a fair amount of "lost" cities appearing across the globe . . Wasnt something similiar found off the coast of Madascar ? and others near Cuba I think ? ?

Atlantis may be more than one city . . . .

we need a way of clearing mass sand ourselves...like.........a giant underwater fan >: )

Its wonderful to know we are slowly discovering more about the history of our planet....

If only the water would receed sad.gifsad.gif

Then we could possibly find out alot more.

i believe it plausible we did once have a firmament....But things like that dont come naturally...

drain the ocean let the water flote out in space then suck it back down to earth i say!
u know what would be neat is those sonar devises that looks like a floor waxer, that they use to find dino bones and hidden rooms, makem more powerful as to put one on a boat, and see what under the ocean sand.

^They already have devices like that and are using them for that exact purpose!

There are accounts of more than one ancient submerged city, Atlantis is only one, there is also Mu and Lemuria.

Atlantis was said to be in the Atlantic ocean and there are many theories on where it is today ranging from off the cost of bermuda to antartica. Destoryed by water.

Mu was said to be located in the pacific just below the equater and was 5k miles long and 3k miles wide. The legend of it was uncovered to the public in 1866 by an James Churchwood - an American. The legend was written in the 'native tongue of humans' Naacal on ancient stone tablets in a temple in India. Churchwood learned this language from an indian preist. Destroyed by volcanic activity.

Lemeuria was said to be in the Indian ocean. It was proposed by scientists that there was a landbridge between africa, madagascar, and asia in the eocene age - the top of which forms the malay archapelligo we see today. This also explains why creatures such as the lemur are on madegascar, africa and india. Said to be inhabited by a "root race" of humans" who have four arms, an extra eye in the back of their head, and reversable knees. (closely resemble the Hindu gods, do they not?) Destroyed by volcanic activity.

It would be interesting to know just where off of india these remains are being discovered.. I'm going to go check for maps now. grin2.gif

I cam across a link to a new theory that Atlantis is in the South China Sea/indian ocean...sort of stuff and argument that Indeonesia is what remains of the tips of the mountain ranges of atlantis.

It sounded crazy to me since the argument/theory is full of symbolism.
it is by some brazilian guy!

There is also this city of Dwaraka the legendasry city of Lord Krishna, one of the 10 Incarnations of Lord Vishnu of Hindu Mythology, the ruins of which were found off the coast of the state of Gujarat, in the western part of India. Incidently Gujarat was alsoa place stuck by one of the worsts cyclones in Indian History.

I was gonna post that link. It's very interesting. I had always thought Atlantis is in the Atlantic Ocean, or it was in the Mediterranean Sea.
