wow....this takes me back...
Talon
I play Warhammer (Fantasy not 40k)
AtticusBlueprint
I used to play Fantasy too, I don't know why I never got 40K, anyways, I used to play Warhammer alot but then I just stopped one day I'll get back into it
Richdog
I dont play it, but Warhammer 40k is easily the coolest, richest, most brutal and downright awesome sci-fi fantasy world I have ever seen. I can't get enough of reading the background, it is simply amazing stuff...
jenk
I used to play it. I stopped when I found fantasy was much better. I'm actually putting together a campaign for some friends right now.

Ya 40k has a way better storie line than fantasy but the fantasy game play is better.
Hoagy
I started off with the Fantasy stuff, but I liked the darker imagery that 40K has. I love the Chaos stuff too, that's what I am putting together at the moment, then after that, Sisters Of Battle.

My wife calls me a geek *sob* crying.gif

BTW, Richdog, your avatar is awesome!

I used to play warhammer 40, had a Imperial Guard army. Had around 3 Leman russ, 2 baslisks, 1 griffon, 2 sentinels, 7 tactical squads, 2 heavy weapon squads, 1 suicide bomber squad (back in the day when they still sold em), 1 stormtrooper squad, and command squad. All cadian, or as near as i could get to them, all my officers were unique though i used to swap the heads from different "races" (i.e cadian, catchcan etc etc). Sold my army a year ago to my brother, who intergrated it into his space marine army (which is bloody awesome). Never liked the offspring to 40k though like epic, and gorkamorka -_-; .

I hear ypu on that one. I never really liked the way GW made the 40K orks kinda comical and dumb, they should be brutal and scary looking, on a level with the Chaos stuff.

BTW, would 40K have anything to do with your name, or is it just coincidence?

mr dollarhyde

Gorkamorka was actually my favourite, followed by Necromunda...I enjoyed the fact that every model was an individual character, rather than just a faceless rank and file troop.

There was something far more cool about Grimgog, my max level ork knob, with a stat line that made Gazgul Thraka look like a malnurished snotling, charging into a fight and slaughtering half a dozen of the opposition without breaking sweat, while on the other side of the battlefeild, Gulnaz and Griznak argue about which of them is the 'ardest after the boss tongue.gif

Much better, in my mind, than just having "generic squad A shoots at generic squad B".

Lol

Yeah, and Necromunda was cool because of House Escher, and the feminists can moan all they want that it was 'girl power' but we all know it was about sex appeal.

Mordhelm, the Warhammer version of Nercomunda was also fun thumbsup.gif

You remember Griznak and Gulnaz - the right and left hands of Grimgog, disciple of Gork. They were legendary.

Griznak, proclaimed the most violent ork in Mektown, who stood at a height of four and a half feet, but boasted more kills than any other ork in the campaign, and bit the nose off of an ork who called him "stunty".

And then Gulnuz, the second in command of my mob (Da Badland Bruddahood), who had a balistic skill of 6, and could hit a snotling between the eyes, while looking into the sun, in the middle of a sandstorm. The only member of the mob ever to get the testicular fortitude to challenge Grimgog for leadership (in a fight that lasted one round, and ended with Gulnaz losing an eye, a leg, and an arm....which actually worked out, as all the replacement parts turned him into a right killing machine tongue.gif).

Ah, those were the days...

Mordheim never really did it for me...I dunno why. They just didn't have as much character as my orks.

has anyone ever played the warhammer 40k fire warrior videogame? its cool.
Seraphina
I've had a look at it...but I'm not too big on first person shooters, or the featured race in the game. I did like Space Hulk, one of the earlier Playstation releases, where you guide a squad of terminators through a...you guessed it...space hulk tongue.gif...But Fire Warrior doesn't seem like my thing.
JMPD1
I used to be an avid 40K player, wayyyyyyyyyyy back. I still have all of my Eldar models, just haven't found the time/opponents/interest to pick it up again.

The last PC game of 40K I played was a squad level game called 'the gates of chaos'
Dante Rouseau
I like to play 40k, my current army is orks. as for fire warrior i thought it was alright but theres much better fps's out there, it did help that i found it for 99p in a sale.
TheCrow
I was kind of into it. Several years ago I got a Space Marines starter box with some squads in, the land speeder and the codex and stuff. Then I bought myself some more tanks and special Chaplain guys or whatever... I enjoyed making them and painting them and I got involved in the wargames a little bit but kinda lost interest after a while.

40k is prime stuff for a movie though... Just think LOTR in space. I mean, just look at the adverts for the new PC game, Dawn of War with the battle scenes... it would be great.
Dante Rouseau
There is a 40k fan movie being made called damnatus. its being done by a german group and should hopefully be done by the end of this year. Its more on the subtle scale though due to being a fan movie they don't really have the resources for full scale battles.
Seraphina
I would be quite happy with a 40K version of Aliens tongue.gif Say an Imperial Cruiser, on a course through warp space, collides with a drifting Space Hulk...the survivors of the crash, upon consulting the sensor logs of their totaled ship, discover that not only are the escape pods of one of the many wreckages that make up the Hulk still in working order...but the Hulk is apparantly drifting on a course that will carry it directly into Imperial Space, and onto populated worlds.

That would make for quite a gripping few hours, as the crew try to navigate through the hulk, trying to stay ahead of hordes of genestealers and the like, to not only find some way of destroying the Hulk, but also reach the escape pods before they end up dead tongue.gif

Hmm...tasty original.gif

I'll second that! I remember waaaaaay back that there was prototype marine suits constructed for a possible movie (about the same time that the commercials for the god-awful Space Crusade were being aired on TV). They had some pictures in an old back issue of White Dwarf I believe.

You know, I hate to admit it, but I ripped off borrowed some Warhammer stuff when I began writing my space novel. Some of the ideas for weapons were just too cool not to use...
Talon
I wont feel bad, when designing Warhammer, Games Workshop ripped off a lot from Tolken tongue.gif

sorry to say folks, those props in the previous posted link are in fact props that are on display at Warhammer World in Nottingham, UK - No film *sniff* crying.gif

Did anyone ever get around to playing Dawn of War? I thought the game was great (though my computer is too slow to run the damn game, I only had a chance to play it on my brother's PC).

evil_E.T
Dawn of War is awsomre, i used to get the space marines to fight close combat with a load of orks, the zoom in to watch the carnage
sweet...
used to play the minature game, but got bored of it
the background to it all is awsome though...has anyone seen "Xenology", the new book theyre bringing out?
MonkeyMan
Good ol 40k. I started with my bright lime green dark angels army, and when I finally feel like playing again, am making the pink poodles space wolves army 8) .

And with fantasy I have my lizardmen army. 40k is funner though. And reading the background is a hobby in itself grin2.gif
Megalomania
Back in fantasy, I had an eagle-rider thingy.
Then I figured that I couldn't paint as well as I thought I could. So I painted it a nice blue.

Then I figured that to build a large army, I would need loooots of money.
So I quit.
Paranoid Android
^^Indeed, they try to suck you in with how cool it is, but the price....... that 's why I gave up :yes;
Tillghast
Warhammer figureines were cool, until they got really expensive. The game is an easier way to play.

I play, and my Main Arm is Tyranids. Ive only been playing for a few months, and i want to get my army totally painted before i go in for a games night or something. i also want to start collecting Tau as a bit of a contrast to my Tyranid army.

My friend and I are building a table right now actually. I'll post pics once im done it.

Yeah that’s why i used to play Necromunda as well as 40K like but that’s why i liked Necromunda. I used to play Dark Angels in 40K, i liked the back story - kinda the Darker good guys. Sold all my old Codex's an that on ebay a bit back, wish i hadn't now they were well better that the ones you get now, upset me a bit when i actually got to sending them off, almost like getting rid of part of my childhood. Still stick my head in the odd GW store now and then but my Girl Friend rips the piss out of me some thing chronic when I do grin2.gif .

Don't they have an actual LOTR game now?
Urisk
Good old GW. I used to play a few games yeah. Still got a lot of my old stuff.

40K- (2nd ed) Tyranids/genestealer cult, Marines (3rd ed) I think I've still got a few eldar kicking about...

WFB- Skaven ('mon the Rats!! again from as far back as 4th edition), High Elves, Ogre Kingdoms

Necromunda- Escher Gang

Gorkamorka (loved this game as a kid!)- several totally kick-ass warbands. Well... 2. And some "Muties".

Mordheim- Skaven and pirates ya-harrr!

Sadly I don't have much time anymore. Although I did pick up a starter set for a game called Urban War (formerly Void) by a company called Urban Mammoth (formerly I-Kore). That's quite fun, plays very similar to the old Kryomech game.
