Well a certain thought has been bothering me for quite some time, what is this place and why does it exist, nobody really explains why we are here or why we are these things called humans,or what is the point of this world, and why we are like this and not like other animals,...i do not want to confuse people with all these questions but there are so many. Do we really know anything?? let me put it this way,...everything we might know or think we might know may not exist in other parts of this cosmos, sound, sight, taste, structure, math, science, etc. may be different, opposite, or nonexistent in other places...it is a very straining idea since most of us just accept the norm that we are here on this earth and we are born, we work, we reproduce, we live, we die and go to heaven or hell, or whatever...what if everything we might know is really the opposite of reality? that brings up another point, what is reality, if there is such a thing,... is reality due to an individual's thoughts or imaginations being projected into a certain plain(3d,dreams,etc.), that makes it a reality, or is reality fixed, what i mean by fixed is that everything exists and functions a certain way because of a certain set of laws that is set by a common Godsource?or are there many realities due to many different threads of thoughts and actions?...why are there still so many unexplained things in this world? like ghosts or crop circles? My point is that we don't know all that much because we label things normal and go along with that, and everything else is"foolish", or "crazy", but if you think about it people that try to explore their world and make sense of it, even if they may not be correct in other eyes, are using parts of their mind that others do not. they do not accept things in the world today as "normal", they see other sides of things that many cannot. Many people do not think for themselves, they just go along with what is considered normal, and by doing that they are setting themselves back because there is still so much to be explored...please give me your thoughts on this subject THANKS

First off i just kinda skimmed ur post (im lazy). Second off, if video games and comics books taught me anything, "reality" is in the eye of the beholder. We all have are own thoughts and views on things are own perspective on life. For example, one persons view of life is going to church every week, getting married, and all the other things people are soposed to do. Another person may think life is all fun and they just live by the moment. You get it?? There is no set way you should live your life and there is no set way you should view reality, even though we people try and force there ways on to us(AKA the govement, the church). Its kinda like there way of keeping us in line and under control.

As for what is are purpose as humans, my opinions vary. Even though we are human we are still animals, we eat, sleep, poop, etc. Were just more "evolved" I think its kinda like are perseption of "things" is on another "plane" of reality then animals. For example, animals dont think about science and "purpose". All they know is survival, because thats all they can comprehend. Maybe were the same, maybe were not soposed to comprehend these things but just keep on open mind abut them. There has to a higher "force" in the universe let it be God, Zeus, The Force, etc.

Well im done for know

Trust me- I think about that all the time. What's the point of existing? What impact can we have? What's even the purpose of having any impact on the world? The universe is so vast that in the grand scheme of things, it's hard to understand why any of this matters. What is reality? I have no idea. For all I know, I could be dead right now, or dreaming. We believe that this is reality because we know nothing else. Why do people conform with what is considered "normal"? I chalk it up to fear of being alone. Humans are social animals, so in order to feel like we matter, we need to feel accepted by others- sometimes at any cost. I don't see the logic behind that. I'd much rather be pitifully alone than surrounded by a bunch of fakes. But that's just me.

But anyway...I'm equally confused. hmm.gif Why is any of this even happening? This had given me a lot to think about.

Well there was this guy, Now I forget his name but I can edit this post.

He looked at this question a lot and he said.

The human existence is not just probably a simulation but its a Trillion times more likely than any other reason we are here.

Its basicly going on about how Civilizations grow technologicaly and get to a certain point where they become a creator of worlds and now imagin how many civilizations in the history of the universe that could of existed before us. Think of how we are progressing ourselves and the virtual worlds we are making, imagin what we can make hundreds or thousands and even millions of years from now.

So yes, Its probably VERY likely that we are simulation.

If you would like to take a listen to Vener vinge on this, he tells the story and the technological singularity here

He starts talking around 7 minutes into the video. thumbsup.gif

its about artificial worlds at poptech 2002

ah, heres the quote

Hans Moravec - "It is not only possible that we are living in a simulation - that we are a simulation. Its almost certain, that were are. THe odds are trillions to 1 that any other conclusion that is we are really real is false. "

You understand exactly what I'm trying to explore! I know it is extremely confusing to understand or figure out because not many people talk about this matter and when you do bring it up most people don't understand. What I do think about is the great masters and teachers of this world Jesus, Buddha, Muhammed, Einstein, Etc. , What did they know that made them so different?? Did they know the secret of this existence?of life, of everything? Is it really a secret?...Maybe, just maybe, what we are trying to find is right under our noses...maybe everyone is born with the potential to know, the nature of life, existence, time, God, space, etc. BUT maybe there is some kind of mental block? what is it? who knows...maybe we have to find out for ourselves, many great people did so why can't we??....

It bothers everyone at some time or another. Some it bothers more than others and I don't want do disappoint but NO1 will ever explain it - they will give you their beliefs intermixed with 'perceived' facts/proofs.

It is in our nature to abstract to deal with complexity (we abstract EVERYTHING). Even an electron is an abstraction. We don't EXACTLY know what it is. We can deduce some properties through experiments but the fact remains there is still a HUGE unknown. Now if we were to forget about abstraction and were able to understand things down to Planck length (perhaps even that can be broken down) even a speck of dust would take a lifetime to explain!

When you look at things in this perspective what we know/understand about the things around us (including our bodies, world, animals, existence etc etc) is only an infinitesmally small fraction of everything. Just as you cannot possibly explain/understand a car, for example, by only seeing an indicator switch you cannot possibly explain existence from what we know.

All we will ever have is an ever increasing pool of possibilities/views/beliefs (by the way, all of which have something correct). All of these views/beliefs will get us infinitesmally closer to the answer.

I myself have many views/theories arranged in probability scale and all intersect in some way with another view/theory.

My suggestion is to keep your mind open to ALL possibilities no matter how ridiculous they sound so that you can paint a more complete picture from all the tiny fragments. Even multi-universe views were ridiculed but now it is a possibility.Note, you will never have the whole picture from our physical realm.

If you guys are into altered perceptions of reality i would encourage you to read "The Elegant Universe" or "Fabric of the Cosmos" both of which were written by Brian Greene and are available at your local bookstore(im not a salesman im just a brian greene advocate). They both explain, without all the confusing mathematics, the concepts of what is known of reality so far in physics and quantum mechanics. Maybe a more full understanding of the universe will give you an idea of how complex nature really is...

doesn't really answer the whole "why are we here" question though, but I guarantee you wont look at everything the same after you read either.
