Now when you read this remember George HW Bush was vice President at the time.

Quote from:" Juan Cole, Professor of History at the University of Michigan, as he discusses the Reagan years and specifically, the relationship between Reagan’s actions and 9/11 —

The Christian Coalition and other rightwing religious groups supporting Reagan even had a “biblical checklist” by which they wanted all senators and congressmen to be judged. And one of the items in the “biblical checklist” was “support for the Afghan ‘freedom fighters’” [that is, the “Gulbuddin Hikmatyars and Usama Bin Ladens”]. The rightwing Christians were saying in the 1980s that if you didn’t support al-Qaeda and its Mujahidin allies, you didn’t deserve to be in Congress!"

in context buddy, they were fighting against the soviets. Without the US they would have been crushed. And as far as i know, they weren't vocal about their disdain for the West, hell it would seem osama didn't hate the west until Saudi snubbed him and his fighters when they offered protection for that of the US.

of course, i'm not denying the US aided Osama, i'm however pointing out that youa re failing to acknowledge to context in which it occured. Didn't the US train Ho Chi Minh during ww2 to fight the japanese?

As far as Osama and Hekmatyar go, they were bad people then as they are now. Nothing has changed. What I am pointing out is that Reagan and religious right moral majority christians were shaping our policies and using murderous drug runners like Hekmatyar to carry out these goals. So it is ok for christians to support this kind of thing? There was nothing moral about it . Niether with Reagan or the Moral Majority. You don't make deals with the devil in order to recieve benefits. Also, you should be aware that it was the CIA, Reagan, and Bush with the help of the christian right that have gotten us into this mess in the first place. It was their foreign policies to arm Saddam. It was thier policies that sold weapons to Iran. I am not blaming our government. I am blaming these people...the same people who are giving us the "truth" of 9-11...you believe them? When will you wake up and see that these peoples goals are on a divergent course with our own? They do not care about us and thier policies prove it. Ho Chi was an ally at one time with a certain crowd in Wash. but later when "others" came to power, they made war with him. There are different groups here in the states with different goals. In the Truman administration, Prescott Bush was reprimanded and penalized for dealing with Nazi Germany(vesting order #248). Under Eisenhower he becomes a US senator...not bad for a damned criminal! Now his grandson is our president, not bad for a terrorist supporting family eh? My how things change.

The terrorist for ones are the freedom fighters of others...the same happens whit the Mujaidins, the USa and the soviets in Afganistan.

Yes I realise how it gets whitewashed in the end ..."but they are our terrorists". Just like the terrorists the CIA used to invade Cuba...unfortunately it had deadly consequences for Kennedy. You think Bush and the CIA had disavowed ties to Bin Laden? Even after he was wanted for the bombing of the US embassy in Kenya he was visited by the CIA. Whether you know it or not Meko, there is a quiet war going on here in the States and it has a lot to do with our military-industrial complex. Bush is part of that crowd, and they will not ever let an honest elected government get in thier way...even our own. They have kept in check everyone that threatens thier goals. How about the helicopters that were sabotaged trying to rescue our hostages in Iran? Did you know Ollie North was involved in that operation? Our own people sabotaged those heli's so they could make Carter look bade and thus gain an easy victory in the coming 1980 election. That is the kind of filth in power now.
