Uh-huh.
I've only visited the loch once, and found a (fake) gold chain. I threw it back because it was all rusty and gross.
I was 11. I remember all of the locals were really capitaliseing on it. There were models of sea monsters in ponds by hotels and evreything.
There were also some old folks who owned the inn we stayed at. One night we actually had dinner with them. They were really nice but hated all of the tourist attractions that were built up around the place. The wife of the owner said she saw the monster when she was very young.

W, I once took my eldest daughter to Scotland when she was 4, I think it was probablyu my first trip there too, We staid in a B&B near Loch Morar, brand new building it was and the owners were young in their late 20's with 2 children. The man when I asked him how long they have been open explained he had a fishing boat on Loch Morar and one on the sea also and left that line of work to run the B&B, naturally I asked why and he said he had seen something just below the surface of the water swimming along side his boat on Loch Morar, this freaked him out so much that he has never got back on a boat again, I asked him about the boat and he described it and it was actuall moared up at the lch with a for sale sign on... Morar I believe is the deepest of the scottish Lochs?

I was just searching for Ogopogo pictures and stumbled across this forum. I'd like to say that I live in Vernon, B.C. right at the northern part of Okanagan lake, I've yet to see the creature myself though...But one of these days I am bound to see him, I just don't go walking around the lake that often, so my chances of spotting him are quite slim. Although it does live in there, I laugh when Ogopogo is dismissed as a large sturgeon fish, even by some of the locals I've talked too!! It's like c'mon get real!
Quite mysterious to me, as I like to sit and think about crazy ideas such as Ogopogo devouring people. That may sound very far-fetched, but I love it when my imagination gets carried away and then I cook up thoughts about my favorite lake monster revealing itself as a terrifying, menacing creature!

sorry man, most of those photos are the work of monster hunter Frank Searle, and one of the photos is the work of Lachlan Stuart. although these photos are generally regarded as fakes, they were supposed to be the Loch Ness Monster, not Ogopogo.

I seem to recall that the native american legends all claimed that the creature devoured humans, and they were excellent observers of nature, so I would believe that. But it is not surprising it would avoid this practice today. During those times, stone age weapons would have been harmless to such a creature, but as guns were introduced to the natives, after getting shot a couple of times, it probably decided to remove people from the menu. Crocodilians have learned the same lesson.
The Dragons of Europe were also no longer reported stealing cattle and children with the introduction of firerarms. That seems to be when they "returned to the sea".

Hmm, well this does appear to be a very old thread, but I'll post anyway sence lake monsters are my favorite cryptids. I have not really researched Ogopogo on my own to make a firm decision. But the one picture that really interests me was the one taken by a family on thier vaction. It clearly showed something rising out of the water. If I remember correctly, American Chupacabra once had the picture as his avatar.

ogopogo is a land locked Cabdorosaur or group of cadborosaurs plus its a fact that the lake and the ocean had once been cunnectid
there are incredably strong similarities between the two plus the lake it lives in is only a few miles inland of the coast which is cadborobay and other waters off the coast of british columbia
so yeah all the pics that show a plesiosaur-like shape please dont take them to be ogopogo cause its serpentine and also camra shy
and it is reported lessoften then other lake monsters because i rekon they live far deeper than we seem to think
which would also help Cadborosaurus mainly cause its the ocean

Wait a minute. Wait a minute. I just looked up the picture I reciently refered to.

It turns out that this is a alleged picture of Champ, the lake monster of Lake Champlain. This one is thought to be a plesiosaur like animal similar to Nessie.

The natives also told their children not to go in the lake because they would would get eaten. I believe in Ogopogo, but could it be a possibility that it's just a story to keep people out of the lake?
the scots told the same story to their kids as well, this is a great way to stop kids drowning in the loch/lake by bring a monster on to the scene

I'll drive Lake Okanogan in early August, on my way to my cabin in central British Columbia.
Everytime I drive by that lake, I take quick glances away from the road, hoping to spot Ogopogo! LOL
I know ... I know ... not a chance but still, I gotta look!
Beautiful area. On the fringe of the southeastern desert of B.C. (sagebrush and bare rock abound) and very scenic. That desert country, through irrigation, produces massive crops of vegetables and fruits. Stopping by a fruit stand on the way up is a must!

Is it only a coincidene that we have similar described, long necked aquatic cryptids all at around the same latitude, in Canada/U.S, Scotland, Scandenavia, Russian and China? I doubt Champ vs. Ogopogo vs. Nessie, any are more real than the others, they are obviusly the same creature in relatively the same habitat around the world.

Ogopogo to my knowledge is a giant sea serpent, unlike Nessie. And he would totally whoop Nessie's ass. Ogopogo is like 3 times as large as Nessie.

I was under the impression that Champ and Nessie were supposed to be of the long-neck plesiosaur trype; while Ogopogo was supposed to be a landlocked cadborosaurus.

What's interesting with the ogopogo stories is that there are many with multiple witnesses (30 cars driving nearby saw it in one instance, several boaters in another.. keeps going). I've heard recently they found a deep underwater cave in Loch Ness, anyone know if similar tunnels have been found in Lake Okanagan
My time at Lake Okanagan hasn't resulted in seeing anything.. Though my cousin and I flooded the engine of a Sea-doo in the middle of the lake, and I got to swim back

I've heard sighting are less frequent in the north of the lake near Vernon (where I normally go) than down south between Kelowna and Penticton.

And Rosentrot, can you tell me what a 'cadborosaurus' is? I can't find the name on any dinosaur list...I think that the name
cadborosaurus refers to the cryptid lake monster of the Lake Cadboro, in short, it was called 'caddie'.

Cadborosaurus is the name given to a corpse / sea cryptid found in the ocean off BC. It's named after Cadboro Bay in Victoria, but it has allegedly been seen up and down the pacific coast of north america. The description fits very closely with Ogopogo descriptions, so some people say the species has been around awhile, and when water levels were higher after glacial period, the ogopogo ancestor swam up the Columbia River into the newly formed Okanagan lake, and then got stuck there when water levels dropped again.

I think Nocturnal explained it better than I could, capo. Cadborosaurus or caddy is the name given to a lake/sea monster seen off the coast of British Columbia. It's said to resemble a long serpent as opposed to the plesiosaur-like lake monsters Champ and Nessie. And if I'm not mistaken, something like caddy was supposidly seen off the coast of New England, too.

That it would. There has to be something to the stories. We have so many lakes here in BC and they are deep, being carved from glaciers. There was even a native story of a monster in Kootenay Lake. And I know that Kootenay Lake has many many caves. If there can be 500 year old sturgeons down there, why not other things?
