Yes it is very possible.
Mysteryman
Wait, I'm sorry. Can you explain again the difference between wild salmon and fishery salmon?

The thing about the dodo is that it was unique to the island it was found on...as a flightless bird, it was incapable of migrating to other parts of the world, or even to nearby islands. If there have been sightings of it on other islands, I'd be skeptical....

I wouldn't be. They where hunted down a lot. Chances are that there where live ones taken on boats, or that some may have made it to boats. This could have very welll brought them to other islands, on which they may live today. I think its deffenitly possible that any "extinct" creature may be still around today. I mean, the cocleanth was thought to be dead for millions of years, untill some where found in the 1930's. And with the recent sighting and lleged pictures of the thylacine, its all very possible.

Also, their were many scientists aboard ships. Those scientists would collect samples, new life forms, and life never seen or explored before. The dodo(s) could have been taken aboard for an experiment or to show as Jeremy Rumbolt said.

lol left for a couple days and so many people post didnt expect this to last long cool!

anyhoo to the point lol, Dodo's dont live on Madagascar they live on some other island that starts with a M somewhere in the indian ocean i think im not sure really maybe its near africa or europe im not really sure lol and the only predators i can ever think of or heared of was the rats and pigs that were brought to the island by HUMANS. both the rats and pigs kept destroying eggs and killing the chicks (baby dodo's) so eventually they went to extinction.. or did they? wink2.gif

I believe it's called a pectoral fin.On wild salmon, obviously they have it,as they are born with it.In fisheries they ae clipped off,to tell the dif between a hatchery salmon, and a wild,as wild salmon are not legal to keep...

They lived on an island called Mauritius, located on the Indian Ocean.
XSAS
Yes your correct... I was in the right corner of the globe and have even been to the Island but it was Mauritius.
Mysteryman
You were around their, lol.
Conspiracy
ya im gonna have to write down that island somewhere so i dont forget tongue.gif
Mysteryman
Heres a site about dodo birds and its habitat on Mauritius:

Conspiracy
you and your vast research of websites lol
MJB222
A dodos closet relative is a pigion, I don't see how that works.
Conspiracy
well the dodo has been isolated for more than a million years so it did evolve alot if it USED to be able to fly so you never know.
MJB222
I thought it's more chicken- like though
Conspiracy
maybe so, but evolution takes its toll on all animals, tricking our minds and such like how it did with the dodo! making it look totally different from a pigeon disgust.gif

anyhoo im off for the night, cya!
Canadian Rottweiler
I doubt they would change so much that they become unrecognizable hmm.gif
Walken
Yeah. Even humans still share traits with monkeys and birds with dinosaurs.
Conspiracy
well i donno, maybe pigeons looked totally different way back then maybe thats why? who knows lol
MJB222
Every one picks on the flightless birds. The dodo, moa, and the great auk where all flightless and look what happend to them. I'm surprised penguins, ostriches and emus are still alive.
Conspiracy
supositly Ostriches are endangered species, and some types of penguins, not sure about emu's tho, also it might depend on when those 3 species were all first discovered cause during the 20th century people were taking care of animals more then before sorta.. and im not really sure when antartica was first discovered cause that could have helped the penguins from sailors before
MJB222
Well I guess ostriches are supposed to be quite agressive.

Well their are the similiarties. Its puffed up structure of the breast I guess resembles the pigeon - but I could see since they are both birds and the pigeon just evolved out of the dodo bird.

True - but whats even cooler is every now and then, some infants are just born with actual tails, but usually either falls off or just basically stunts the growth and eventually go's away. But we have the thumb as so do the monkeys do.

Has anyone ever seen Master & Commander featuring Russel Crow? Theirs a scientist aboard and the scientist commands the master to visit the Galapagos Islands and the scientists sees the dodo bird and soon realizes that its flightless?

Yes, ostriches are certainly endangered - atleast in the places they were known most for their great ostriches. Emus also are endangered. I found out during research that the African Penguins are endangered and penguins in New Zealand are at most risk for being endangered. But, many people would hunt these animals for a living (like the case of the thylacine).

My brother, when he went to Australia, told me that he rode one and they are pretty vicious. If you touch them in a wrong way, they chase you and peck at you...I'd run if I saw one even though their awesome and beautiful creatures.
Conspiracy
damn ostriches lol
Mysteryman
Ostriches are awesome and beautiful creatures but its common in Australia especially as a delicious meal - supporting why its an endangered species. At times like these, killing them for food is not the good time -
Conspiracy
lol ya... hmmm this post is getting old, im glad it lasted this long tho original.gif
The Roswell Man
woz moa bigger than current flightless birds (ostriches, cassorwary, emu)? huh.gif hmm.gif

well, no matter what, if there is a unusual extinct animal particular to a certain area, tourists will begin "seeing" them in every nook and cranny. a Dodo, maybe, theyre small enough to hide, but Moas were huge, werent they? could they really hide in areas where people might be?
Conspiracy
they could be hiding in deep parts of forests on New Zealand, thats just a guess tho, maybe they are just seeing things but i guess we wont know till one is captured and that

The ivory billed woodpecker is another extinct bird thats been showing up. geek.gif  I personly believe they are still around, and I would like to believe the great auk is still around. no.gif

March... that's a long time ago, and I don't know if anyone is even reading thing anymore.

But, There's a lot of hype about ivory billed woodpeckers right now, check out this article from NY-times: http://www.nytimes.com/2005/08/02/science/02bird.html

They're believed to be still extant in Aarkasas, at least acoording to a couple of Cornell researchers.

If they really are alive, this is really exciting!
Conspiracy
hey my old post! lol well ya its great to see that bird is still good, hopefully more are found wink2.gif
