i was only 9 in 1980

but i seem to remember it had alot to do with the failed hostage rescue

my question though is

i wonder if anyone wanted him out because he was an admitted ufo believer as he filed that report when he was governor ?

That election was the first one I was able to vote in. It seemed to me at the time that National morale was at a low ebb in the years following the Nixon resignation and the not so honorable extraction from Vietnam, and then the Iran hostage crisis.

That, coupled with the both real and imagined thread from the Soviet Union, in my opinion drove many people to vote for Reagan on the platform of patriotism--something that was lacking at that time.

Personally, although in hindsight I consider Reagan to have been a decent president, I voted for Carter at the time, and honestly I probably still would today. Either way, the current administration is no Reagan or Carter; what is lacking today is a statesman president, one who even if disliked for his politics is generally respected throughout the world.

Sadly, that isn't the case today.
