OAK BROOK, Ill. (AP) -- McDonald's is testing the use of remote call centers to handle drive-thru orders. The company's CEO says, "If you're in L.A. and you hear a person with a North Dakota accent taking your order, you'll know what we're up to."
The world's largest restaurant chain wants to cut down on the number of mistakes at the drive-thru window. The chain's chief financial officer says a "heavy percentage" of complaints come from drive-thru customers who got the wrong order. Call centers would help process orders faster.
Company officials say the idea is being tested at a small number of McDonald's in the Pacific Northwest. A spokeswoman says it's too early to say whether the outsourcing strategy will be used systemwide.

Seriously they page min. wage to kids to do this job, why would you take that away from them? Plus the call centers will most likly be networked to the McDonalds they serve and that has a good chance of computer problems. Just how long will it be before you start talking to a guy in India about ur McNuggets? Grrr... I am going to bring my money to Burger King now instead... blah McDonalds!

I work at McDonalds (manager, yay

), and we have all sorts of people working here. The reason things get messed up is that customers expect quick service, and don't give us time to clarify the orders. Sure, there are some crappy employees, but for the most part it has little to do with the workers themselves, and nothing to do with their skin colour.
I'm part Arab, so your comment pissed me off.

i must say i am a supervisor at a call center, and my employees would be able to take the orders and process them error free, there is very little margin of error, and computer failure is almost non existant, we have back up generators and servers just for that purpose, i think mcdonalds may be on to something, and also remember kratos, the ones taking the orders for the drive through are also the same ones who make the food, the teens wont be loosing jobs, they will actually be gaining jobs by now being able to work at the micky d's call center

I have all ways assumed that the mistakes made at Mac,s and other fast foods is that the employees are doing 4 or 5 orders at the same time. If your requested item is not in the picking bin, the order is set aside until the item is prepared. After a few hours of multiple orders some ones sandwich ends up in the guy ahead of you's bag. Out sourcing will have no effect on accurate packing of orders.

My aunt is also a manager at McDonald's and most of her problems come from like you said people who are impatient and expect quick service.

Don't they train then to be British now? I heard of they make them change their accent and give them British sounding names. They even have them watching Eastenders to get an understanding on British cultre. good thing they're doing their best to keep Indians way from here.

Are you serious? Eastenders? What a great thing to show people as an example about how we live. Murders every fortnight, gangsters running loose everywhere, husbands sleeping with other husbands who killed their wives because they slept with the nextdoor neighbors cat...

They are only testing it out at the moment, there is a very high chance that this will never happen and just be a test in improving service or cutting costs whichever you believe.

Picture a quiet, suburban block. Picture a beautiful summer sky, and rows on rows of flawless green lawns, daisies and marigolds mingling with the grass. Picture birds chirping, dogs barking and insects buzzing. Picture a sudden, foreboding silence. Picture 50 mini-vans firing up in unison, pouring from the driveways like an army of vehicular horror. Picture them all speeding towards your drive thru, drivers screaming at their children. Picture the terrified faces of you co-workers...

Oh no, girlfriend, she's way past it. She was even past it way back when she had cancer and went with that one breast look. Plus she's a little to close to the grave for my liking. Though she might be more makretable once we advertise the hell out of her and show her as the new it.

it is lazyness.... ppl are far too lazy to get off their fat backsides.. get out of the drive-thru, go home and cook a healthy meal.. no wonder so many ppl are obese. they are too lazy to do something about it
i have a life.. a very busy one at that. but i am still able to cook my meals. so there is no need for excuses. its not hard to cook a healthy meal. and it doesnt take a long time either.. and more often than not, you have left overs. which always taste great the second day. especially if it is a curry. what are we teaching our kids if all they eat is deep fried crapola food, with no nutritional values at all?
it makes me laugh tho when ppl order vast amounts of food... and have a diet coke for a chaser.. yep. like thats going to help stop the lard encasing the insides of your arteries

after working at hj's.. and knowing how the food is processed and turned into the burgers.. patties etc. you really dont want to know
gotta love that ten second rule
Chris_com28
Mar 14 2005, 12:38 PM
10 seconds? But some other guy said it was 5 seconds. He can't be wrong, he made curly bananas straight. That man is a God!
I agree with you about eating healthy. It can't be that hard just to cook a healthy meal, you just need to be bothered to learn what's good for you. People are so darn lazy and would rather call 999 because their wife didn't slave other them than actually feed themselves.
Still, healthy food seems to be more expensive. At least it is at the college I go to. Sometimes I find it easier just to eat chocolate all day. I buy a sandwich, bottle of water and packet of mints and end up using almost all the £5 I have on me. If I eat just chocolate and water I'll at most spend only £2.

make a couple bologna sandwiches the night before, or peanut butter or something with a bananna or apple... heck make 3 sandwiches, one sliced roast beef... still cheaper than eating out, and saves time on the drive, order, wait, correct mistake, park to go in so they can give you the right order... much much cheaper and faster and healthier than eating out...
