Well, when i was little, (4-5) I used to have an "imaginary" freind named George. Well, it just so happens that when i was born, my great grandfather died a little while after. Coincedentally, his name was George. Now in that house we used to live across from a church with a graveyard, and we would always have strange happenings. For instance, my Mom would hear laughing in the house with nobody else home, and we would see grey blobs fly down the stairs, etc. Now, to my knowledge, we never heard any footsteps, doors rattling, such as the common sighting. Could my imaginary freind have been my great-grandfathers ghost? and could a ghost from the graveyard really have scared our whole family witless?
I would really appreciate your help!!

If you were on the receiving end of a ghost visitation, the chances are that it would be a dead person that you or your family knew while they were alive. I.e. a relative or friend etc.
I doubt that a someone from the cemetary would be interested in your family because they would not know you.
Ghosts tend to be either location or person based.

loonboy has good points. For it being granddad, might depend on his relationship with your part of the family. Was he close to you? Did your parents owe him money, or did he feel slighted by them for some reason? Generally a spirit will hang around to fulfill some need, to finish something they feel is un-done. Like collect a debt, seek forgiveness (for themself or to give someone), or just to be near someone they are not ready to leave yet without saying something they feel strongly about.
Another point LB pointed out is location. You say there was a church across from where you lived. How old was the church? Churches in the US these days don't have graveyards, only very old churches do. And over time maybe the landscape around the church has changed and your house may have been near, or even on, someones grave.
Just a thought...

Theres one thing i forgot to point out...we lived in England!! My parents went over to the graveyard and found gravestones dating back to 1200, which answers your question of age...and my Mom has always told me that my great grandfather loved me a great deal when he saw me before he died. Could that be the connection?
Thanks!

Possibly mau have been your great grandfather then, if he loved you a lot then after he died he may have been checking up on you and the household to see that everything was OK.
