there you have one to guard an air force base
http://www.usatoday.com/tech/news/techinno...guardbots_x.htmif they can cost only $200,000 how long can it be before they are guarding the homes of rich people ?

Thanks for those links et's daddy. That Sony one looks incredible. Robots have certainly come along way from the shuffling monstrosities that were unveiled in the 1950's.
Do you know if they require alcohol to fuel their power cells?
whoa182
Mar 19 2005, 02:18 PM
Robots are about to get a significant power boost too!
2 breakthroughs in feb-march were:
-New batteries from nanotech that weighs around 8 ounces but has the same amount of power as a 20 lb battery!
-New battery from nanotech that charges up in 6minutes to full!

That's is amazing. Great Links Et. I haven't seen Sony's Robot. Never knew they had one. It's pretty amazing for it's size. And looks like it has the physical abilities of a 2-year old child. Maybe it could be Asimo's kids eh?

A robot family made to help you around the house. How's that? Child-size robots to play with other kids and teach them how to learn.
And larger robots like Asimo to do menial chores. Maybe directing the robot, Roomba to vacuum certain areas that have been assigned to Asimo. Just an idea.

i think i want one of those air base guard-bots to deal with the trick-or-treaters
Bex
Mar 21 2005, 12:23 AM
I want one. I have limited mobility and it would be so great if the robots could assist me and the other disabled people.
How much? $200,000.
I remembered what I told my daughter when we first found out about this; I told her I'm going to call my Bot - Franco

i see the price going along the lines of computers
$2,500 a few years ago would get you a basic model which is nothing compared to what $500 will buy today

That sounds great and by the time I could afford it; it could be like "Data"... still callin' him "Franco" haha

It'd be cool if soon everyone owns a robot in their homes, doing things such as opening doors and training dogs. My family is handicap in those two areas as it is.

And eventually we will become entirely reliant upon robots for basically everything in our day to day lives with the rest also being done by other forms of technology. We are going to end up so lazy!

It wont be long before you can have conversations with robots, although it will be severly constrained at first, A.I will eventually come into it and thats where everything seems to go wrong in all the movies!
whoa182

Maybe we will not end up so lazy, but we will have more time to enjoy life, rather than getting home from work and being too tired to do anything except watch tv lol

Just think: we've become lazier due to technology. New inventions make labor of all kinds easier and quicker to finish. I predict that in less than fifty years, maybe twenty five, robots and even newer inventions will become so widespread that soon there'll be no purpose for human life; everything else will do our work for us.... There's already no purpose for human life...
Not saying there's anything wrong with new technology and making things easier, but I think some people take things for granted too much.

Mar 24 2005, 01:46 AM
well i want a Robot to talk to etc be my friend. It wont be kreepy it would talk to me give my ideas and fix my god damn computer when its borken. Also it might help me make 3D models

Scan them in and the reproduce them.

As long as we can find a balance with technology we should be ok, we cant rely upon it to do everything for us, otherwise there is no point in us existing if we just sit around while everything is done for us. Robots will indeed be awesome, but people must remember that when not if they became as self-aware as us we need to treat them accordingly.

lol...
that video made me laugh.
I want a robot like bender. Muhahaha
And remember, if you ever have a problem with a robot, you can always make it think about an endless loop.
Suddenly paradoxes will become an important thing to teach your child.
"mommy, robotron broke the lamp!"
"ROBOTRON!!"
"yes?"
"THIS SENTANCE IS FALSE!!"
"nnnnnnoooooooooooooooooooooo!!!" *boom*
"thanks mommy!!"
"Now just remember, if a robot is ever mean to you, just think back to your paradox class!"

LoL...
What if robots did actually become self-aware at some point. What if they said that they were alive and consciouss..
I wonder if robots would ever have ' Rights ' as humans do, hmmm

Mar 24 2005, 02:12 PM
so in 2050 QRIO could be president ?
i think maybe some "busy" people will get QRIO instead of having kids
whoa182
Mar 24 2005, 03:25 PM
QRIO costs around 50,000 Dollars to buy at the moment.
Although the deflation on computer hardware cost is about 50% a year or 18 months... Shouldnt be too long before affordable hi-tech robots are common.
First we'll have to go through mainstream bots like Robosapien 2 . Things will quickly pick as there is more demand for robots.

I don't think there will be a robot for president as soon as 2050, I mean there still hasn't been a black president, or a woman president, or even a spanish president or chinese president or japanese, or... well my point is they've all been white males.
Oh god, then robots will be like...
DONT CALL US ROBOTS THATS OUR WORD, CALL US ELECTRONIC AMERICANS!! 01 robot, what's calculatin'?

will disabled robots become panhandlers ?

IBM computing algorithm thinks like an animalA mathematical model that mimics the behavior of the brain's neocortal minicolumns could one day lead to robots that can "see" like humans and/or make appropriate decisions when bombarded with sensory information.
The mathematical model created at IBM simulates the behavior of 500,000 minicolumns connected by 400 million connections. With it, "we were able to demonstrate self-organization" and behavior similar to that seen in the real world, according to Charles Peck of IBM's Biometaphorical Computing team.

I just watched it too.. Although thats the same thing I thought. I dont think that will happen.
Robots can have all these senses that humans have eventually, nature has already created it ! . We can create it for robots. Robots could someday become very much more powerful than than humans in all aspects. They will have no desire to be human, they will probably have superior senses and feeldings than we do.
Although It was a good movie...
