26] And God said; Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth.

[27] So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

[28] And God blessed them, and God said unto them, be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moves upon the earth.

According with the Hebrew Bible, the first humans were created in the image of God, in the likeness of God (Gen 1:26-30).

So, what does the `image of God'' mean? In what way are the humans different than animals, and in what way are humans like God?

How did sin affect that image?

Is this image relevant to spiritual growth, knowledge of oneself and evolution?

Do you believe that the image of God refers primarily to spiritual capacities?

Very shallow theories about the image focus only in the physicality. Although ignorance about certain physical aspects has and can reduced human abilities, however, they remain in potentiality, and esotericism asseverates that only the Holy Spirit, which is a force called Kundalini in the east, is capable to restore those human capacities. Since the image of God has spiritual implications, only a spiritual force can help both physical and spiritual needs.

So, what is the image of God that this sinful humanity now has lost?

What is the image that we must to become in order to be as Gods?

As a Christian, Muslim, Buddhist, Jew, Taoist, Brahman, etc., how much percentage of that image do (you think) you posses?

How do the different religions of the world can assist you in this transformation?

My understanding is from Baptist bible school. God made man in his image meaning with many of His own abilitys, examples.
1. The ability to either create or destroy.
2. The ability to pro-create or take a life.
3. The ability for un-conditional love. "Agape" you may want to research this unique hebrew word it does not translate well into english.
Not only did God create us in His spiritual image He created Himself in our image though Jesus. Now thats a compliment to us as humans and explains by action that He truly is Agape.

וַיֹּאמֶר אֱלֹהִים, נַעֲשֶׂה אָדָם בְּצַלְמֵנוּ
,image our in Adam make us 'Let :said God And

מֵנוּ צַלְ בְּ אָדָם
image our in Adam
“Adam in our image”

It is very intriguing that: Mem, Nun and Vav מֵנ וּ (that is translated as image) in Sanskrit is (Manu) that is derived from Manas, which means mind. Adam is an Image, a thought from the mind of God.

So, the translation should sound better if we state that Adam was created according with the MIND of the GODS (Elohim).

HUM is God and MANAS is Mind in Sanskrit, so Human (Adam) is the one who has the Mind of God!

Maybe the 'image' is not as much of a 'human form' like most tend to think...but more on attributes, like that of love, wisdom, knowledge, faith, hope...ALL things good...

*shrugs.. I dunno..... Kinda like you just said....

gonna send you a pm

Adam (the Human Being) in Hebrew is written with three letters: Aleph, Daleth and Mem.

Kabbalistically, Aleph has the value of 1, Daleth of 4 and Mem 40. So, the world ADAM makes the number 144000. Because kabbalistically, in the sphere of God we find the Initiatic Ages beyond one thousand.

The three zeros in 144000 essentially symbolize the threefold activity of the crown of life (God). These three zeros represent the three aspects of Divinity: The Elder of Days; the Adorable Son; and the very wise Holy Spirit.

The crown of life is the MAN-SUN, the KING-SUN, who was greatly worshipped by the Emperor Juliano.

The crown of life is our Incessant Eternal Breath profoundly unknowable to himself, It is the particular ray of each human being, It is the COSMIC CHRIST.

The crown of life is: Kether, Chockmah and Binah (love, wisdom, knowledge, faith, hope, understanding).

Whosoever is faithful unto death receives the crown of life.

The one who receives the crown of life becomes an ADAM (144000); a being whose mind reflects Kether, Chockmah and Binah (the three aspects of Divinity). thumbsup.gif

Speaking as a non-religious person, maybe the "image of God" refers to the potential we have within ourselves to be an integral part of the universe and the ability to manipulate and shape it and reality.

Maybe it is this potential that is responsible for psychic phenomena.

I'll just make it very simple for me to understand.

And God said; Let us make man in our image,(visualization) after our likeness:(whatever we wanted it to be) and let them have dominion (food) over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth.

Man's FACE was made ion the image of God. To mock a person's face is to sin for that reason. However, being made in the image of God has nothing to do with sin itself.

Adam was given by God, God's understanding of right and wrong, thereby the IGNORANCE of that understanding is what God hates and curses MORE than the sin that is in (Adam as the case was) him to sin. It was the ignorance of that understanding that led to Adam and Eve's fall.

the IGNORANCE of that understanding

We understand too it is offensive.
Ashley-Star*Child
That is the word that is used in the texts from the very lips of God. I can't help it if it's found offensive, talk to the maker about it.

To state that Man's PHYSICAL FACE was made in the image of God is a very shallow concept about the image of God. God’s image is the (Ruach Elohim) that according to Moses was floating, in the beginning, upon the FACE of the waters.

This Ruach Elohim is the sexual energy of the Holy Spirit! The sexual energy of the Holy Spirit is a pinky or rosy colored creative force that surrounds man and woman while in the sexual act (Garden of Eden).

To disregard this aspect is to completely dismiss the meaning of IMAGE.

מִין
Sex, kind, variety, genus, species, gender

God made Adam after his kind (מִין)!

God is Spirit, the Creative Sexual Force of the Holy Spirit! thumbsup.gif

And let them have dominion (power) over the fish of the sea (the element water), and over the fowl of the air (the element air), and over the cattle (the element earth), and over all the earth (the element fire hidden within any matter, some times it is refer as the beast [lion] of the earth), and over every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth (the ethereal element of life that circulates within any organic matter). thumbsup.gif

Read carefully!

Concerning the first commandment, in the English translation of the Bible we read that Moses wrote: “Thou shalt have no other gods before me.”

The proper translation should be Moses wrote:
לֹא-יִהְיֶה לְךָ אֱלֹהִים אֲחֵרִים, עַל-פָּנָי.

Jehovah is not as a strange God or Goddess (Elohim) within me, thus thou shall not make within thee any graven image (mental representation) of any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. Thou shall not bow down thy mind to them, nor serve them: for יְהוָה thy (Inner) God (or Spirit) is a jealous God (apprehensive who does not want to be supplanted by a false mental representation) that visits (is aware within you of the) the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that disallow me; and showing mercy unto thousands of them that allow me, and keep my commandments (or will within you).

So יְהוָה (Jehovah) is formless, his image is abstract, therefore cannot be represented as a concrete image, and if the human being is made into his own image, then such an image is not tangible or material but spiritual. sleep.gif

Yes, the potential we have within ourselves is that Ruach Elohim that is that integral part of the universe that has the ability to manipulate and shape our true reality. thumbsup.gif

This Ruach Elohim is the potential that is responsible for any psychic phenomena. happy.gif
