Fire damaged a historic Cornwall pub just two days after its new landlady called in a clergyman following a series of supernatural encounters. Dyanne Hull, 44, knew the 500-year-old Miners Arms in Mithian, near Truro, was reputed to be haunted when she moved in six weeks ago.But she was sceptical about locals’ stories until she started to hear unexplained scratching noises and feel the sensation that a ghostly presence was pushing past her.Becoming increasingly frightened, she called the Truro Diocese of the Church of England last week and asked for help to put her mind at rest. But before anyone arrived to speak to her, a fire broke out in the pub’s roof later that week causing several thousand pounds worth of damage.Mrs Hull said: “Our view is it’s just a coincidence, but quite a spooky coincidence. To be honest, I have to treat it as a coincidence, otherwise it would scare the life out of me.”The Rev. Prebendary Robert Strange, the Bishop of Truro’s adviser for the ministry of deliverance, arrived at the pub two days later and reassured Mrs Hull she had nothing to be afraid of.The landlady said: “I don’t feel there’s a threat to us at all. It does scare you every now and again you get goose bumps and the hair on the back of your neck stands up but I am a lot better this week.”
