I was watching TV the other day and something came on about the 7 sins. They were listing them down and when they got to the last one I was a little puzzled. Why is Pride a sin. Pride is one of thoughs things I belive thats importain to ones self-esteam. I always tryed to look for pride in the things I do. So, Why is Pride a sin?

Ture pride is good, but to much pride is bad. Example, always thinking you know everything or are better than others. Good pride is, If you have pride in accomplishing something that was hard for you to do, a task or getting an A on your test. Or having pride in cultural, religion or your country.

Hoped that helped.

I am proud that when God pours all the talents in the world i've catch a lot of it.
Even i don't speak english very well at least i know how to spell what i am saying.
And that's one example of too much pride.

Pride is actually the sin from which all other sins originate. For instance, Lucifer's Pride led him to think he was perhaps more in the right and better then God, which in turn led him to rebel. Pride is a very interesting concept... and sometimes shouldn't be considered a sin. Basically, all of the sins are just an excess or depletion of something.

Taken in good balance you can practice all the sins, well.... sinfree! laugh.gif
I am me
so is parading around like you are better than everyone because you are of a certain religion related to having too much pride?

i ask this because i have met quite a few christians who do this. you know, i don't care what your religion is, but man... some really beat it down your throat.

Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a (Christian) Pharisee, and the other a (Buddhist) publican.

The (Christian) Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other (Religious) men are, extortionists, unjust, adulterers, or even as this (Buddhist) publican.

I fast twice in the week; I give tithes of all that I possess (to my Church).

And the (Buddhist) publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.

I tell you, this (Buddhist) man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalts himself shall be abased; and he that humbles himself shall be exalted. Luke: 18: 10- 14

Being proud of many things...and not being thankful of others. And in this case, being proud and not being thankful to God for giving you all these talents, skills and abilities, pride gets in the way(according to Christianity)

I think pride is one becuase you could get to cocky
I really dont know
marduk
Don't ask me I'm still trying to figure out why i shouldn't covet my neighbours Ox.
Like not even if its a big strong ox with a nice coat and a clean bottom and a cute wet shiny nose
Why is that a commandment

I think that if it goes far enough to a point where you steal his Ox, there violates a commandment. Admiration isn't a commandment...I think. Maybe admiration is good for motivation and inspiration, thats why it can be good at times.
marduk
Oh i have no intention of stealing it.
But you know of an evening to just sit out on the verandah with a few beers and covet his ox can be very rewarding.
Very few pleasures in life that cheap

next week i may have a go at worshipping a graven image
Anyone know any tombstones going cheap ?

Satan got thrown out because God gave him the highest power of all angels, and therefore he was the highest angel. He then got some funny idea that he was equal to God. So, God kicked him out. That sums up pride. He also, on another account, refused when all angels were asked to bow down to aAdam, the newly creacted second angel made in the image of God. This also contributed to him getting kicked out. He said 'Why should I a son of fire, bow down to a son of clay'....and out he went with all those who were under him. Talk about being a little cocky there.

Why is pride a sin? When you take pride in the glory of righteousness and God, it is not sin, but when you take pride in your authority, power and possession more than righteousness, then it is sin.
Ashley-Star*Child
If you put your power (or ANYTHING for that matter) before God it is a sin.

Pride is a sin to an extent, as was already explained by other people here.
I am me
sounds like god has a bit too much pride in himself doesn't it

i too have seen this quite often.

Perhaps it has to do with the nature of christianity? (i.e. how chrisitanty serves the ego)

What gets to me is peoples translation of lust. There is more than just pleasures of the flesh.

He is Andrealphus, the lord of lust. Not just lust for the flesh, mind you. Your perception of lust is far too narrow and single minded to do him justice. Yes, those are lovely young women, virgins in fact, that he has in his tentacles. What? Disgusted? He is merely a reflection of the evil, the lust within your heart, within the hearts of all men. These poor souls, they thought themselves safe from damnation by never engaging their physical desires. Foolish, for within their souls they have allowed corruption more than the flesh can even sustain. Even in life, they allowed Andrealphus to touch their hearts, with dreams of sensual pleasures greater than the real thing. The lord of lust himself has chosen them for his own pleasures, forever damned to satisfy his lust..........

sorry. the comment refers to the feeding of the ego by the christian faith. I didn;t mean to imply all christians are egotistical. It is sort of like the feel good religion. Probably better for you than happy pills, so long as you don't become a bible-thumping freak.
