QUOTE(Darkwind @ Mar 27 2005, 10:17 PM)
My youngest comes to visit. After a nice visit I get out my new wand that I have just finished to give him. Then he drops the bomb.
Son: "Uh Dad I have decided to become a christian."
Darkwind outside: "Oh, well are you sure that is your Path."
(Darkwind inside: AHHH, Goddess where have I failed. Where did I go wrong!)
Son: "Ya, Dad it is my choice."
Darkwind outside: "Well, your Path is your Path. Thats ok, it is your life. I have aways said the choice is yours."
(Darkwind inside: Why did I say that? I know it is the right way raise children, but christian? I want to throw myself on my sword.)
Son: "Thanks Dad, I knew you would be ok with it." (Gives me a hug)
Darkwind outside: (looks at the wand) "I'll keep it for you. Love ya."
Son: "Right, Dad. I'll see ya later."
Darkwind inside: (It's the new girlfriend, I knew she was trouble. Now I know how christians feel when their kids become Pagans. I am going to bury that bible in the back yard.)

You sound like a wonderful father, and you also sound like a wise man.

I always knew you would be tolerant enough to do something like this. Children should be raised neutrally, not because of whatever religion you will be a part of, but because of the values you can learn and the wisdom you can gain by knowledge and studying instead of being born, and being forced to go to church. Maybe people perfer the Christian way of life even after growing up pagan, but that is their choice. The most important thing is to make sure they are allowed to follow their choice, and not try and bias it in any way. Did you raise your son teaching him the spiritual beliefs that you hold?
EDIT: Obviously you did if you gave him a wand. Care to elaborate, I find this facinating. What does a wand do?

They didn't grow up Pagan. I raise them to keep an open mind and read (I made them read. I would turn off the TV and say it is time to read everyday.) When I became a Pagan they fell right into it. I didn't make them, but I was always handing them books on it. The youngest is in love, he will find is way and if he stays a christian then that is his Path. They spent a lot of time with their grandparents when my wife and I were sick. Sadly I couldn't care for them and her too. It was hard on them, but I think they came through it ok. I am proud of them. To argue with him about it brakes a tenement of my religion. As long as he doesn't try to save the old man I am ok with it.
The wand is to channel energy. Like an athame. I make them out of sticks and beads and whatever I find.
