did anyone see the dozen non calls in the toronto montreal game saturday? That was a ridiculous third period. Montreal would have scored three goals if they could have got their sticks away from the Toronto players. What the hell happened to speeding the game up and calling interference?
~Onyx~
The NHL needs to do a better job at making up it's damn mind, and disciplining these damn ref's who decide they want to "interpret" the rules they're own damn way, the last thing the NHL needs is ref's who act like MLB umpires(who have "they're own" strike zone). Your either gonna call it, or your not, the players HAVE to know how it's gonna be so they can adjust, otherwise, the product on the ice suffers, and in turn, the fans suffer.

Hopefully we'll turn it around, so far it looks like Madden and Pandolfo with 6 each...Haven't been to the new center yet..it's only about 45 miinutes from here, and looks beautiful...We've been so used to going to the Meadowlands for years now and usually we already have our tickets now but just opened a new business so we're a little behind original.gif My daughter lives in Atlanta, and I plan my trips when the Devils are at Phillips Arena...Tonight we're against the Rangers...one game I don't want to miss...Sucky Gomez.... laugh.gif We also have a local Jim Dowd, who has been on about 11 teams, back and forth with the Devils...He came in to my grandson's goalie camp and at the time didn't know where he was going...Here he's with Philly now.

yeah i've heard of jim dowd, that's cool he came to the camp and you've got little ones still playing hockey.
my son is 12 and has played hockey since he was 7, but this year has decided to hang up the skates and is doing indoor soccer all winter, that's how it goes here, if you're good, i mean really good by the age of 12 or 13 then you keep going with the competitive teams, but if you're only so-so, as is my son, it's crappy rec hockey and not really worth it, so no more hanging out at the rink this year.
my comment about madden. i don't mean any disrespect for him, i think he's a gritty tough player, but he more of a defensive forward than most, and drives the boards to win the puck and set up other players, so if he's the leading goal scorer then the big guns for the devils need to be doing a better job, but i think they have a great coach in sutter, and if anyone can figure the players out, and manage to keep lou lamarello off there back, it's sutter, so i'm sure the devils will be there at the end of the season.

saw the ottawa game, mostly, but did see the highlights, but that's always the case with games in toronto and i'm not being biased here, it always goes the leafs way, especially with interference.
seems to be the way the rules should be, and the way it works for the leafs on a saturday night game.
gotta keep leaf nation happy right disgust.gif
~Onyx~
I'd take John Madden in a heartbeat, especially since he seems to KILL The Panthers every time they get together in Jersey. wink2.gif
goalienan
I agree about Lou Lamorelli....But I'm sure like any other past season, Sutter will be gone right before playoffs...It's the way of the Devils....After the last two games, I hang my head in shame...Brodeau looks like he has brain farts...Last night Pittsburgh was all over them...I shut the game off in the beginning of the second period...Enough is enough laugh.gif
Hey Onyx, it's my grandson who plays hockey, and I know what you mean by the competition out there...Your son was smart enough to stop playing and go into soccer...My grandson played both, but gave up soccer about 3 years ago...He's a goalie, and equipment is so expensive...Keeps growing and we keep paying...Hockey is a big sport down here, but to get anywhere out of high school, you have to be damm good...Two of our top schools, at the end of the season, play their playoff finals up at Prudential...That's a helluva game...Yup, and I'll stick with Madden now too.
Stixxman
Yeah I did notice how the leafs are the slowest team in the east but seemed to be able to keep up with one of the fastest teams in the east. They get a lot of wriggle with interference. No wonder they never do anything with their team, even the crappy ones aren't half bad once the refs are on your side. I've been getting more and mroe suspicious with the whole NBA ref scandal coming out. I thought there were a few stinkers in the playoffs last year in the pheonix series. Its only made me wonder how bad it is with the refs.

The Cats keep The Lightning winless on the road after 2nd year player David Booth(a '05 2nd round pick outta Michigan State) scores the winning goal with 1:19 left to play in the 3rd period. Now all they have to do is beat the same Lightning team on Wed. the 7th to get to .500. They currently have 14pts. and are 2nd in The Southeastern Conference, things could be worse, this same time last year, I think they went o-for-November, LOL, so I'll take what I can get.

Boy, The Lightning sure are top-heavy with regards to they're "big three" of Lecavalier, St. Louis, and Richards, if you can manage to keep them relatively in check...no easy task, I grant you...then you have a very good chance of beating them, and Dan Boyle(former Panther...thanks Iron Mike) can't get back fast enough for them.

nice one kak. it's just always great to beat up on the leafs, the sens could be playing a 500 season, and it would still be great when they beat the leafs, god they did look good last night though. took the leafs defense(if it truly exists) apart.
the canucks will get going as well, luongo will find the groove again, and away they'll go.

well i am a little caught up in this, last night tied the franchise record for 8 wins in a row, so we'll see thurs if they can rewrite history against the caps, should happen, but you never know. but gerber is solid right now, and emery still in the wings so goaltending is not an issue anymore, they have now signed heatly, fisher, spezza for quite a while now, so the core will be around for another few years anyway.
anyway, great hockey to watch.

and where's ehtyl, the thrashers won one last night against the caps in overtime!!!!!

I am not asking for any pity, just to say that's why I have been absent.

As it looks right now, I need to see a little, DET vs OTT... I mean woah, as they are the teams to beat. Nucks need to get rolling here...
they play Flamers tomarrow, lots of divisional games ahead ... YES !!!!!

Damn, sorry for your loss, Kak, and if it's important enough to write about, then it's important...period. My sincerest condolences.

The Red Wings vs. The Sens will be a great one, and home-ice will be the difference, IMO, just two great teams playing great hockey....I get fired-up just THINKING about it, LOL.

Well, once again, The Cats look like a playoff team at home and look like an also-ran on the road. I watched the game last night in Tampa Bay, they looked unmotivated, uninterested, and slow. They got beat to every lose puck, they looked lost in the face of Tampa Bay's forecheck, and were just an overall disappointment, IMO.

The Canucks are just starting slow, and are having problems with the kill, but it dosen't look like problems that can't be resolved. I think they have Iginla and The Flames coming up, don't they?
Kaknelson
Thanks brotherman, means lot. original.gif

Cats I have only seen a little bit of, caught a couple replays and one game on NHL CENTER ICE TV (damn i wish that promo wasn't over).

Yah, the Wings beat us up twice this year... we were close... but no spliff. Starting off slow, this is a disease Nucks need to fix immediately.

We play FLAMERS tonight, they have came off a 3 straight 4-1 losses, we need to capitalize on these fools. Shut out iginla and his manpanion, it's over.

Much love & bless!
Stixxman
whoa watch out everyone Montreal won again, that Price kid is the real deal.
~Onyx~
Canucks handle The Flames, now they just need to get on a pit of a roll, and they'll be fine.

Yeah, the emergence of Price gives them A LOT of flexability in goal, both for this year and the immediate future. It's a good problem to have if your The Habs.

The Sens lost to The Caps.........I had to read that twice to make sure I read it right this morning.......and I'd like to think that with a healthy Jason Spezza the outcome would have been different, but The Sens just took too many penalities, and diddn't capitalize of the PP themselves. Looks like Viktor Kozlov(a former Panther, and a poor-man's Alexei Kovalev, IMO) really killed them.

The Cats host The Thrashers tonight, a team that they have had problems with...at home or on the road...but being a good home-ice team, I expect them to take care of business and inch closer to .500...baby-steps...baby-steps.
Stixxman
Price looks like he has played in the league for years. He didn't look shaky once last night. This is the future of goaltending in the league, I see a Vezina in his future.

It's possible....a bit premature, IMO...but possible. Teams that have a surplus of talent in goal, especially young talent, are the envy of the league.

Marc-Andre Flurey......Could be a HOFer, could be great, could be average, could be outta the league before the age of 30, the name Eric Fichaud also comes to mind. The point being that the potential is there, the setting is there(Patrick Roy had a so-so career in Montreal wink2.gif ), now he has to shoulder the burden that comes with lofty expectations AND stay relatively injury-free. thumbsup.gif

Trevor Linden earned his franchise record 412th career assist in the 2nd. Making him the official Canucks all time leader, passing Stan Smyl.

The Canucks scored three times in the second - including two in a 16-second span - to top the Flames 3-2 Thursday night and improve to 5-0 against Northwest Division opponents.

And luckily, on to more tonight:

Luongo New Mask

linked-image

Jason Botchford, The Province
Published: Wednesday, October 03, 2007

For two hours one night during the summer, Robert Luongo sat down with his brother-in-law and came up with a new identity.

For his new mask, the pair came up with an idea that was historical, paying homage to the Canucks franchise, and something that also screamed, "Vancouver!"

"I wanted something that sticks out," the Canucks' star goalie said.

After getting the idea for the new mask down, he worked for two weeks with Marlene Ross, a Brockville, Ont., artist who has a list of more than 50 elite goalie clients.

She decorated the mask Luongo used last year.

"Some people have no idea what they want and they tell me to just draw a couple things, hoping they'll get inspired," Ross said.

"Not Roberto. He's really good and he really puts his mind to it. He wants to be involved in every step. He wants to feel like the designer. And he should.

"In the end it's a reflection of him, not me. I really like what he did. It has its own charm. I think this one's terrific."

Here's a look at Luongo's vision and how Ross was able to depict it through her artwork:

JOHNNY CANUCK

Luongo said ever since he arrived in Vancouver he's been a big fan of Johnny Canuck, created as a lumberjack national personification of Canada. Luongo wanted that as his primary mark on his new mask.

"I tried to make it intimidating with his face," he said. "It came out pretty nice."

Ross knew she wanted a mustache, a hat and a beard on the Johnny Canuck figure, but had to use her imagination for his face. It jets out of the mask with a 3-D effect.

"He's got some attitude, doesn't he?" she said.

THE MOUNTAINS

Luongo wanted a more accurate depiction of the Vancouver mountains and Ross gave him just that with her artwork.

Working off a postcard she painted snow-capped images of the North Shore mountains.

"They are the actual mountains this time," Ross said.

THE HARBOUR CENTRE AND SKYLINE

Luongo had to have something that said "Vancouver" and what better way than the city's most-notable skyscraper?

"I wanted that tower there this year, even though it wasn't there last year," Luongo said.

Ross said she didn't know the name of the building, but was able to track it down on the Internet.

"I had to do some research on that one," she said. "The only times I've been to Vancouver I haven't left the airport."

THE SKATES

When Luongo told Ross he wanted skates, she first drew modern skates at the bottom of his mask.

"I was not really thinking of the old style," Ross said. "But when I showed Roberto he said, 'No no, I really want them to look vintage with two tones -- black and brown.'"

THE PINK PANTHER TAIL

For the first time since 2000, Luongo's mask this year won't have Pink Panther tail. He kept it last year even though it was something from his Florida days because he still wanted to connect to his roots.

But this year he said: "It's time to move on."

but it was huet yesterday, and he did a hell of a job, stood on his head, incredible.
what a good game and the sens came back again, that's another thing i really like about the sens, they neve roll over anymore.
cause the habs looked like they were going to steal one, impressive play.
apparently alfie gave some stirring speach at the 2nd intermission and it got them going, well he scored.
and they're doing ok without spezza, all except for heatly. he hasn't scored that much, has a few asssists since spezza went but
no goals, i think he misses spezza, they play well together, and spezz knows where to find him.
bit of a break again, no sens game til thursday when the sabres are in town.
Stixxman
alfie was up the whole game as far as i could tell he was the only one goin that night. tough loss there really thought habs had it but oh well they played Ottawa tough and showed they can skate with them they just gotta adjust for the whole 60 minutes of the game is all. Ottawa looks leathal, even when they flub 85% of a game they still win sheesh.

watched the game last night leafs vs habs, and that price looked really good.
he kept the leafs out, which i CANNOT SAY ENOUGH, is a good thing.

and what do we all think of sean avery's shinanigans with darcy tucker????
a 2500$ fine......pfffft........couch change for him, that won't make him shut up.
not sure why he has to be like that to play any good, you ignore his crap like the sabres did in the playoffs last year, and he goes
away. you let him wind you up, and avery plays like the best of them.

sens vs sabres tomorrow night here at the scotiabank center, and on the tv, TSN at 7pm.
Stixxman
yeah avery always has a game when he can turn the screws on someone. Boy the sabres must be feeling pretty stupid letting those two go(briere & Drury) and keeping those other two (Vanek & Roy)

gotta admit kak, i was cheering for the roughriders, just like the whole underdog thing, and joseph was the quarterback here in ottawa, before the team folded.
should be a good grey cup.

and the sens beat the habs after losing a stinker in toronto saturday.
it was a reall good game tho, lots of shots, and huet was still pretty good.
heatly broke out of his slump with a goal and two helpers.
the sabres wednesday night......didn't we just play them???
lots of divisional games right now.
Stixxman
yeah that divisional matchup is killing me, if we didn't have to play Ottawa twice in the last week we would have a couple more wins.

Haha, well i don't blame yah jec, i mean, BC was supposed to be a dynasty type team, looks like who wants it most gets it on any

Markus Naslund led the Canucks with a hat trick, including the game-winner, in a 4-2 win over the Wild at Xcel Energy Center Wednesday, which tied both clubs for the Northwest Division lead. jeceris
uuhhhh.......the sens have fallen to earth long ago, they look like the leafs, and on a 7 game losing streak.
hard to watch, but it's all about standing by your team.
and so onyx, tonight, at your panthers expense, they squeak one out and break the losing streak.
if they score first they stand a chance these days, but i can't figure out what's wrong.
it's like once all the big guns were signed for the long term contracts, they all fell apart.
healty started on fire, and now.......well it is a long season, and i hope the sens can turn it around on this road trip.
still 17 and 7 at this point isn't all that bad, it really could be worse.

Greetings.

Canucks have played reasonably well as of late, they were the best team in the NHL in November. Roberto Luongo birthed a 2:10 minute shoutout streak, putting him in 9th place in the Hall Of Fame.

And the greatest news is...

Haha.

The two best goalies on planet earth go head to head tomorrow, at home in Vancouver. As we play the NEW JERSEY DEVILS. One of the best goalies of all time.

These two respective net minders will compete for the spot in 2010 Olympics in Vancouver.

GO LUUUUUUUU.

montreal isn't getting any credit they lost some games but they were all close and to some decent teams. They have had two convincing wins in a row over two good teams
