Don't sweat that, if they wanted an irrelivant Russian they could've traded for Mikhail Baryshnikov for next to nothing.

Caught the game between the Sabres and Rangers, in OT...game ended with a shootout. Sabs lost sad.gif.................seen a good fight tho! laugh.gif

Wouldn't ya know it, The Cats win a season-high 7 in a row and match they're franchise-high for win-streaks and STILL might not make the playoffs. I'm sorry, as well as they're playing at the moment, if they don't make the playoffs then Martian has got to go, IMO. Just too many late-game let-downs that cost them 2 points this year, and that goes directly towards 2 things: Lack of leadership on the ice, and lack of preparation off it.
The Mule
<--------------Hides until......until.......hey at least Patrick Kane is doing Buffalo proud!
~Onyx~
Huge game on Thursday against The Hurricanes, biggest game of the year so far. The Cats currently sit 4 points outta the 8th playoff spot in the eastern conference and 5 points outta 1st place in the southeastern conference. They have 2 more games against The Hurricanes left this year, and they need to win them both to have a chance to make the playoffs. In that respect, they control their own destiny, but if they lose Thursday night, they're effectively done, IMO.

it would appear i am a fair weather poster with the hockey news. when the sens are doing well, i'm piping up.
when they suck, and they suck right now, i'm off in the corner with my mouth shut.
these guys might not even make the playoffs now, 6 games left and they had better find out how to get things working again, or it will surely be a brief playoff run.
habs look the strongest in the east, i don't think pittsburgh can pull it off.
but maybe this year, it is finally detroits turn, the most consistent team in the league for awhile now.
onyx, i hope the panthers can get there, still in with a chance, just hope it's not ottawa they knock out, that would be......well i'm not even goona think about it.
and the leafs make their stupid push to make the playoffs, they do this every year lately, play great in the last month, when it's all too late.
sens vs sabres tonight, and then the sabres back here thursday.
they need to win both.
uuuuughhhhhhh!
jeceris
tough loss last night onyx, looks like florida is not going to make it.
the leafs are officially eliminated from the playoffs, this is the 3rd year in a row they've missed the playoffs, haven't done that since the 1930's! ha!
and the sens could have clinched a playoff spot, but lost in a shootout to buffalo. defensive lapse again, they won't get far in the playoffs like this.
but, they play the habs two more times, and hopefully can catch them for first in the division, 4 points behind the habs, it can be done, but whatever.
last week of the regular season coming up. should be a good one

Lest we forget those unbelievable Devils who have played like crap lately...Starting to remind me of the "Thrashers" in their first season original.gif Jeez, even Brodeur has lost his magic..Seven loses to the Rangers, tonight the "Flyers", and the season goes on...(walks away to put her Devil jersey's in the closet until they come around).....I'm so depressed laugh.gif

It could be worse, you could be a Panthers Fan. Well, they've mailed it in, and apparently have already set up their tee-times at Doral. Two losses, one to Tampa Bay(the worst team points-wise in the east), and Atlanta, a division rival no less. Looks like it's the usual suspects in the playoffs again this year.
goalienan
Yep, I guess it could be worse...I haven't had much time for hockey this year, catch it when I can original.gif Well with the Devils win last night I can now take one jersey out of the closet...Don't know if anyone follows the juniors, but there was a video on ESPN NHL...showing the goalie fight between Jonathan Roy (Patrick's son) and another goalie...Roy seems to be on the bottom of goalie stat's...and just took off and started plowing the opposition..Don't see much of that...Has a worse temper than his dad did...

I diddn't see the brawl, but I've heard plenty about the aftermath. Don't know what to make of it, it's easy to sit back and pass judgement from here, but lets face it, if it wasn't the greatest goalie in NHL history(until Brodeur retires, that is), who is coach, GM, and part owner of the team...and centeres around his son, of all people...chances are this would just be another hockey brawl in the QMJHL, nad nothing more, IMO.

That very well could be, but very rarely do you see a goalie going after another goalie, and the ultimate insult was when Roy stuck his two middle fingers up at the crowd....If you see the video, it almost looks as if Patrick Roy is edging his son to the other goal...Either way, the sportsmanship sucked....We get alot of brawling in our high school games, but it's stopped quickly...My grandson's team made it to the States, and in the second round, 6 of his team got thrown off the ice for misconduct...nice huh...Coaches, team-mates were all pissed, couldn't blame them....The kids got frustrated, words were exchanged, bad calls by the ref's and the kids went bonkers .. learned their lesson with a big lost...My grandson just stands in the net and watch's... original.gif

Every player on the Red Wings has Turco's number. The Wings should dismantle them quickly. Man, Pittsburg scares me. They would give the Wings one hell of a fight if they meet in the finals...
timbeau
I'll admit, I'm not a hockey fan. I do watch a little bit of the Wings when I have time though.

A Detroit/Pittsburgh Finals would be GREAT for the NHL.

I'm a Devils fan, but I won't go into that original.gif Pittsburgh has been playing unbelievable, watched every one of their playoff games, and they just got better and better...Needless to say I am so not a Rangers fan, so their win was a big one...Now it's coming down to the wire, I say the Pens are going to take the Flyers, but we'll see.... rolleyes.gif

Just a matter of time now before The Cup goes back to Hockeytown. Still not sure how they do it, The Red Wings, I mean. Just look at the team, sure you've got Datsyuk and Zetterberg on offense, and Lidstrom(does he age?) and Rafalski of defence, but after that? Can you name a so-called "superstar"on that team? It's a couple of really good players at forward(no Crosby's, no Malkins, and DEFINITELY nobody named Staal, thank god), and the ageless wonders on defence, that's it, not to mention the retread in goal(no matter how much I may like Ossie, that's what he is).
~Onyx~

I watched the whole series! Some of the best hockey I've seen in years.

The Cup is back where it belongs...in HOCKEYTOWN! Yeah Wings!

Well, the NHL draft has come and gone, and Jacques Martin sent Olli Jokinen packing to Phoenix for 2 players(Nick Boynton and Keith Ballard) and a 2nd round pick 49th overall(which they promtly gave BACK to Phoenix so they could move up to 46th overall, along with a 4th round pick this year, which became defensemen Colby Robak). I can't help but think that Martin's personal feelings toward Jokinen(even though he claims they diddn't) played a part in this trade. The consensus down here amongst the media is that they could've gotten more than they did....to which I agree...and this trade leaves a HUGE void in scoring. If Martin actually thinks that he can move up the Booth/Weiss/Horton line to #1 and just "fill in" the 2nd and 3rd lines with what he already has, then I'm not sure I can stand to watch what will ensue. A lot of low-scoring, one goal losses and shootouts.

As a fan, I damn well fully expect them to make a run at a goal-scoring winger, preferably a veteran. I know Hossa will be COMPLETELY out of they're universe, so I'm not even gonna dare to hope. But the free agency period beings soon(July 1st) and the complete list of who else will be available should be interesting.
~Onyx~
For a couple of weeks now, all of the rumors about Marian Hossa have him going to The Habs, then to The Bruins, then to The Blackhawks, and WHERE does he end up? DETROIT!!!! Damn, the rich get richer.

Ok, Im a huge NFL fan (just incase you missed it tongue.gif ) and dont get around to watching much NHL, But I read a while back in the paper about how they banned throwing Octopi out on the rink in Detroit? WTF was that all about?
I know teams in different sports have their traditions and rituals, but throwing Octopi out in the middle of the rink? That has to be one of the most bizarre rituals i think I've ever heard of. hahaha!

Hopefully this explains it:

Early on, the NHL consisted of six teams, and a team only needed eight wins (two best-of-seven playoff series) to win the Stanley Cup. Each tentacle of the octopus symbolized one playoff victory. The Wings won the Cup that year(1952), and since then, octopi have made periodic appearances on the Detroit ice.

well, thats pretty cool!! Why would they want to ban such an old tradition as that then?

It wasn't a problem until recently, when the NHL morality-nazi's decided that is slows down the game(beacuse of the cleaning up that's done after a goal). Same thing happened down here when The Panthers went on they're Stanley Cup run in '96. They would throw rubber rats onto the ice after each goal, but it's banned now just like the octopi.
frogfish
It was a sad day here in Detroit when they banned that...

Hey Packers, check out the NFL thread. BTW, I'm a Vikes fan. I've bled purple all my life.

I'm REopening this thread.

SO... Linden retired, Naslund and Morrison got traded...

We picked up Dimitra, Bernier, Wellwood & Horidichuck, among others... Fired Dave Nonis, Hired Mike Gillis!!

Also, we put the highest offer ever on a hockey player 20 million for 2 years on Mats Sundin. (still no answer)

And finally, Luongo CUT his hair. AND SO DID I!

thanks lion..

it's been so long, haha. and you're right. i don't even want mr. clean half-brain sundin to play for us anyways. infact, im sick of it all, although the offer still stands it's obvious where his heart is and that he isn't in any hurry to make a decision.

so what's new around here (UM)? i don't even take time to reason on this site anymore . the common consensus on this site is, well... confusion. people who think they are aliens, push religious bs, sasquatch and little-green-men hunters, hippies, patriots, those who deny the NWO, so many different theories, well, i read them for edification. ****, i guess that's why i came back... tongue.gif. but at any rate, confusion. youtube is a great site to be honest, i don't even watch tv anymore, i usually go on there for reasoning and meeting up with people. anyways, i'll be back more, thanks for the love, much love out to the family.
~Onyx~
Well, the regular season is just around the corner, and The Cats look like they've done a good job os shoring-up the defense. Not sure how much more McCabe has in his tank, but on the flip side to that trade, nobody was sure if Van Ryn could regain his 20-goal season form after two significant surgeries on his wrists, not to mention the fact that he wasn't all that great on defense as it was. I'm just not convinced that there's enough offense to go around. If your(as a GM or head coach) depending on the former 2nd line of Booth/Weiss/Horton to become the 1st scoring line, that's fine, but if your depending on a young guy like Shawn Matthias to be your 2nd line center, that's just TOO MUCH to ask, IMO.

I think there's gonna be a lot of 2-1 or 3-2 games and shootouts in Pantherland, this year. Let's just hope The Cats are on the winning end of those outcomes, lol.
~Onyx~
Looks like The Rangers got off to a nice start. And The Sens won. Somewhere Jeceris is smilin.
Kaknelson
Captain Luongo.

6-0-1 in the preseason... yea i know it's preseason, but still... things looking good for the Canucks.

This is the year of the cup, i can feel it!
Kaknelson
Naslund scored the first goal of the year. on the RANGERS!

Morrison scored on us too, he plays for the ducks, that's a wierd one.

We'll see how things pan out Onyx.

Im gonna do a super early prediction of the east and west... i'll say it's gonna be...

VAN
ANA
DET
SAN

MONT
WASH
NY
OTT
~Onyx~
I dunno, Kak, I have as much love for The Nucks as anyone could who isn't from Vancouver, LOL. I just can't put them ahead of The Red Wings...especially considering the upgrade they made in Hossa...until I see it one the ice. Now, I do think The Nucks will finish ahead of The Ducks, and I really don't care WHAT The Sharks do in the regular season. All The Sharks do is lose in the 1st round of the playoffs anyway. So I see it like this(for the foreseeable future):

DET

VAN

SAN

ANA

I really like Montreal in the east, this year. And who knows, maybe The Rangers(now that Jagr and Shanny are elsewhere) will finally start to play like a team now that the "stars" are gone.
