KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A 9-year-old girl in Kansas City was allegedly stabbed after school Tuesday by another 9-year-old girl, police said.

Erica Dunn, a third-grader at Richardson Elementary, headed to her grandmother's house after school. While walking the two blocks, Dunn was allegedly stabbed in the back by one of her third-grade classmates.

Dunn's grandmother, Pauline Viger, said she couldn't believe that Erica made it to the house on her own. Viger said her granddaughter's steps were slow, then she noticed the torn shirt and the stab wound on her back.

"It was long, about a baby finger, a little longer and wide," Viger said.

Police arrived and Dunn was rushed to a hospital. Dunn told police that her classmate had given her attitude earlier in the day, threatening to get her after class.

"This is grade school, and she (has to) walk around for the rest of her life with a long scar on her back -- for what?" Viger asked. It's bad enough fighting in high school -- but in grade school?"

Dunn is expected to recover.

Investigators said they know who the alleged attacker is, but they haven't located her yet.source

The planet is going to the dogs,on friday night me and the wife went for a few quiet drinks at our local to find 40 youths outside the pub fighting pub locals on the street, the youngest was about 12yrs up to about 16yrs,its like the young have lost all respect to their elders

Back to the thread i hope the wee lassie will be alright, and the other wee thing will be found so the athorities can get to the bottom of WHY a young person would do sutch a thing no.gif

You could wonder how the kid got a knife at all. And as it seems, she had it in her locker at school or something...

There has always been fights in grade school... just seems like they are becoming bigger stories today. I remember in grade school I was in the time out room almost every other day and in the office almost daily. I wasn't the only one... there were quite a few kids that did the same. We were all litte terrors. grin2.gif But... I don't recall a stabbing that bad, thats just wacko.

Talk about a back stabber... but seriuosly, pretty messed up. She might not realize it now, but she will reget stabbing her in the back later in life.

This is a truly heart wrenching stroy. My heart felt wishes go out to the girl and her family. However, I believe this is a symptom of much larger problem - the break down of the family unit. As divorce rates increase so will the number of single family homes. It is very difficult to juggle all the demands and responsible that are required of a parent, but imagine doing it alone. Father, mother, breadwinner, childrearer, cook, maid, etc- no longer are these divided between two, but heaped upon one. No one can give their full attention or best effort to everything they are expected to do especially when they have no help. There are further reasons for the breakdown of the family unit and family values, but I believe divorce is the primary factor. And all to often children are the ones effected the most. Then we are surprized when they react so hideously.

And the sad thing is you are half true, the other half of the story is kids these days have powers over adults that they have never had in their life, you cant even put your hand on their shoulder and they are running to phone childline and the police
Another part of it is that many mums now go out and work and when they get home they are burnt out and want peace so they give their kids money and tell them to get on with it,i see it every day with my daughters friends, they have 10 pounds to spend every night and it goes on drink and drugs, their mothers know but shrug their shoulders and say the same old words`oh what can i do`or `not my kids`maybe if some of the dads helped their wifes a wee bit more even around the house, the mum would not be so tired after working and doing all the house work, they would have more time to spend quality time with them
