Agreed, sounds like your having Panic Attacks....I get them all of the time and experience almost the exact same thing.

Indeed, but that does NOT explain what is causing the panic attacks, as there seems to be no logical reason why he has a dreadful fear of these certain things. So, although I like to stay neutral for awhile, reincarnation sounds plausible.
I myself, though, don't really know of any certain fears I have, or phobias. One I can think of is burning to death, but that doesn't really bother me. On the other hand, there are four images and scenes burned into my mind that I can never be free off, and they've never happenend before. When something in the real world makes these feelings and scenes come back to me, I instantly get goosebumps and get very cold.
The first one is a scene in a desert/plains like place. There is some sort of cement or stone wall, and on the wall is a sandy goat skull, kind of like a baphomet. The area makes me feel like it has something to do with the civil war, or pioneers, but the war more.
The second scene is inside of an unknown building. The floor tiles are the style from the 40-50's, and they are smothered in grime. The whole place is brown and dank, old looking.
The third one is an outside forest scene. There are coniferious trees everywhere and the sun is nearly set, leaving an eerie orange glow over the area. It feels lonely, and I can see the silhouettes of some of the taller trees.
The fourth and last scene is the most recently recalled. The thing I remember most is that there is some sort of old building, and there are old-fashioned style lights, like the one you see over a pool table -- 1880-1920 styling.

These scenes, although not as dreadful as yours, do sound a lot a like. I hope someone can give a shot at explaining why these things happen, I got chills just writing about them. I've also seen a house in the forest scene in a dream, if someone wants to try and help, I will gladly tell more.
