Thats awesome! Drummers are rare, I know 2. We're trying to make this one kid become a drummer. You show someone enough Ringo or Bonham or that Santana drummer kid from Woodstock and they'll want to play.

Confession time we have all given the names of some very, very, very talented drummers. I have one more that I was kind of embarrassed to mention, mostly because of my age. I am kind of an admirer of Tommy Lee, on a purely showmanship level, not based on his skill. His skill pales next to the drummers we have already mentioned but he is about the flashiest drummer I have ever seen.

Good choice Tommy Lee although to recent to be considered one of the best is very very good.
I can;t find the video but he did this thing once where he played his drums suspended from the ceiling it was incredible.

I'm not a drummer (I play ze geetar) but another amazing drummer is Dave Weckl - he plays mostly fusion with Chick Corea, and has done work with Robert Plant, George Benson, etc. I saw him live with Chick Corea and it was mind-blowingly cool!!

I may be wrong but I believe the video you discribed was a live video of "Looks That Kill". His kit was mounted in a revolving cage that was extended out over the audience and then the cage began to spin front to back. Tommy wore a harness like you would on an amusment park ride and continued his solo all the while.

Diebytheflyguy, Jose Pasillas is the man, as is the guy from Queens of the Stone Age.
I have just a plain old Pearl Forum, no add ons, but I want them so bad, double bass drum pedal, not the two drums (I believe that's what all those good drummers used), more cymbals, the works.
I'm okay, I can do beats good, and can drop the occasional solo every once and awhile, I'm really more of a guitarist though.
1 to 10... I'd say maybe a 6.

For the acoutsic.
If you want if quiter you really can;t do much other than put pads on the heads.Or play softer.
If i was in a band i would have practices at my house so i wouldn;t have to truck all of my drums around.

Wow, I thought this was a resurrected old thread. I've played the drums for 39 years (omg I feel old). I also play keys, guitar and bass. I sold my Pearl fiberglass kit and kept the CB kit (what drove me to this insane decision I'll never know). I mostly sequence the drums now, but I still throw in a few live tracks once in a while.
I'll post a pic of my kit as soon as I clean my babies up (f***ing dust).

Both apparently (or would that be all three?) I needed cash way back when and knew I'd get a lot more for the Pearl kit. Also, back then I was really getting into new keyboards, and drumming had taken a back seat.
I am aware of the folly of my ways, and believe me, I live with my decision every day of my life.
On the other hand, there is a Tama kit I've had my eye on lately...

I don't play drums, but I play saxophone in my high school band. I tried drums once, but everyone blocked their ears because I was so out of time.
Anyway...
My fave drummer is Dave Grohl (I have heaps more from other bands, but I forgot their names)
I'd love to learn drums in the future though...

Well although you sold a pearl fiberglass at least you still had a set yuo could jam on.
Tama is really cool if you can get anything from 1989 and up.Years before that it wasn;t any good at all.

I've been playin' for close to four years. I have a TAMA SWINGSTAR. It's old and crappy, but it does the trick.
To Uteromind: Dave Grohl is good; I like him more as a guitarist though. What do you think of Foo Fighters' drummer?
I like Brooks Wackerman (from Bad Religion/ex-Suicidal Tendencies) and Travis Barker (from a number of bands, but most commonly known from Blink 182).

I think the Foo Fighters' drummer Taylor Hawkins is pretty good too, (especially on 'Best of You'). I'm more a Nirvana fan than a Foo fan though, but I think they're both good drummers.

Has anyone every played the Pearl Rhythm Traveler Drum Set? I wanted to know can really play it quietly in a apartment?

Aug 4 2005, 12:37 AM
I'd like anyone's opinion on this. Do you prefer using a double bass setup, or a single bass with a double kick pedal?
I like two kicks so I can tune them differently to get a more interesting sound, but I always had a problem trying to fit 2 basses on a small stage.
Also, when I record with a single kick I lose the luxury of stereo. This can be done in post, but it's a monster pain.
Comments? Opinions?

Where are you guys? Tell you what, the beers are on me today!
There's way too many to list so here's just a few faves/inspirations:
Buddy Rich - Unbelievable left hand triples and completely smooth speed solos. I got to see him in concert 1 year before he passed away. His technique was phenomenal.
Ian Paice - Monster speed demon.
Neil Peart - He's the guy who defined prog style drumming in the early/mid 80s. I'd heard a lot of great drummers before him, but very few had really integrated complex rhythms into the songs like Neil did.
Mike Portnoy - His solos aren't the greatest, but his rhythm playing is awesome and a b*tch to emulate doing Dream Theater covers.
BTW, anyone here multitrack drums at home? If you do, what's your mic of choice?
