BERLIN (AFP) - A German artist has invited 30 people to attend the birth of his first child in an art gallery in Berlin as part of an exhibition entitled "birth", the DNA gallery said.

The spectators, who registered for the exhibition via the Internet, will participate in "an exceptional experience", said the artist Winfried Witt for who "man, because he is unique, is an existential object of art".

The artist wants to "show living people, perceived at the same time as object and subject through a kind of magnifying glass and to expose man in the situations of his personal life".

The exhibition, which opens Wednesday, is planned to continue until May 4, the due date for the artist's wife, Ramune Gele, 27.

From Wednesday, the 30 spectators will be ready day and night to come to the exhibition.

Call me crazy, but I really don't see how that is art.

Hope they have lots of garbage cans and chairs ready......my husband threw up and passed out. Both times..... no.gif

It's art in a way, but not his art. I always thought birth should be shared by the couple; only.

I agree 100% I wouldn't allow camcorders or cameras in the room with me. No thank you.

LOL. grin2.gif
My husband was with me the whole time during the birth of our two sons. Luckily he did not pass out or throw up. He was more fascinated than anything.
Fable
Birth is more of a miracle than it is any form of art. Putting a woman out on display while she gives birth is just sick. Now, if a family wishes to tape the delivery, thats fine.. it's for the immediate and close relatives to view. But right out in the open, displaying it as an art form? I believe that is stretching things a bit to far. (No pun intended.)

Sort of like the people who believe that manure is an art form. Don't get me wrong, I am not comparing the two together, merely showing that neither is art.

I wonder how willing his wife is to this?

It is indeed beautiful ,but only for the couple and their family, not a bloody group on spectators!

Geez, what next? I know....

Some guy takes a dump in the middle of the floor, then the art critics circle around it and say things like....

"It's a masterpiece! Note the extreme anguish and despair he has created in the curvature of the top coil!"

"Simply a magnificent sculpture!!. The single peanut near the bottom beautifully portrays a feeling of loneliness.

Has anyone noticed that this "artist" seems to be taking credit for his wife's hard work? "I'm an artist. My wife's in labour."
I have another story to tell you about "art" but I've got to be going soon.
