HAMPTON, Va. - A 75-year-old woman who lay trapped in her bathtub for five days toasted her rescue with a cola and a cigarette. Jane Fromal suffered slight dehydration even though she said she ran tap water to drink during the ordeal.



Doctors said they would keep her at the hospital for a few days to make sure her muscles were working right.


Fromal drew a bath Saturday afternoon to nurse a sore tailbone.


"I thought I'd get in the tub and soak," she said Thursday as she rested at Riverside Regional Medical Center. "I didn't know I was going to soak for five days."


She tried to lift herself up a number of times but was unable to do so. Her elbows and forearms were left raw and sore.


Fromal didn't sleep much during the five days. "How can you sleep in a bathtub?"


She finally got help when a neighbor's grandson noticed newspapers piling up in her driveway and insisted his grandmother call Fromal's family.


Shaun Foley, 21, tried banging on her doors and windows and noticed that her mailbox was stuffed.


James Mountjoy, Fromal's grandson-in-law, burst through a locked storm door. Family members found her in the bathroom off her upstairs bedroom on Wednesday evening.


After donning a warm robe, being lifted to safety and drinking a little water, Fromal didn't ask for food. She wanted one of her Parliament 100s and a Coke.


It wasn't the first time Fromal, who has a little trouble with her legs, has been stuck in the bathtub. A few weeks ago she lay in the tub all day.

Iv`e got a better idea ,instead of her lazy family going to ad hand rails ,why dont they install a phone line if she doesn`t all ready have one and give her a quick phone call once a day and if she doesn`t answer it they will know there is something up and can act on it ,its a small price to pay for peace of mind.

On the other hand the family could have taken a picture of her in the bath and sent it to rotten dot com,know that would have been some pic

Talk about raisin skin! Thats sad though... after 5 days of starving, she wanted her cigs first before food.

Oh my God! The poor woman was in a tub for 5 days. I bet she didn't sleep a wink. Why doesn't her family check on her more often? Thats sad.

I know I give my mum a call everyday.

The thing is this isn't the first time it happened so the family should have shown more care.

If similar incidents like this keep occurring why is it that she is allowed to live by herself?!!?

Because she will be that old lady that spits in your face when talking to you,dips her biscuit in her cup of tea and forgets she has done it and drinks the sludge at the bottom of the cup and wonders where the hell it came from,stinks of p-ss,always says what was that you said after telling her a 15 miniute story,need i go on

i read a book called BATHROOM READERS and it says that americans have 85 bathtub related accidents per day

are we, as United Astates of Americans? That fat?
I, the epresident of the eUnitedeStates of the amerga. declar that we should not be fat we should have a programm called TAF THIN AND FIT (OPOSITE OF FAT) PROGRAM ORIGINALLY USED IN SINGAPORE TO HELP FAT KIDS EXERCISE DURING LUNCHTIME INSTEAD OF EATING ITS SO GREAT

Yes you have so many fat people in your country it is beyond beliefe,being a parent and watching your kid grow up at an unhealthy size is bad parenting,if one of my kids were starting to go that way i would be on the case right away and trying my hardest to keep control of their diet and exercise regieme,
I have seen to many kids being percicuted at school for being to fat,it must have been a liveing hell for them.

They now say that britian is not far behind America now with the amount of obeise people we have,parents need a good kick up the arse some times

Mind you if you tried to kick a very fat kid up the arse you might never see your foot again

never see your foot? how about your whole leg? not to mention that you would have the image of a giant azzcrack burned into your retinas for the rest of your life

Why did she get stuck in the bathtub?? Why couldn't she just climb out? Was she tied up in there? Was the bathtub several feet high? Or is she just obese and couldn't get up??

And that is a reason to have her living on her own? Really compassionate.
