Full Version: Did Bubonic Plague really cause the 'BLACK DEATH'?
Unexplained Mysteries Discussion Forums > Unexplained Mysteries > Ancient Mysteries & Alternative History
The Roswell Man
Ive read sum magazines mentioning this subject and they suggest BP isnt that contagious enuff to affect so many ppl.
Theres also a possibilty it was caused by another 'doomsday' bug or a strain similar to ebola and other disease found 2day.
What do u believe caused the black death? huh.gif
marduk
Poor sanitation and fleas.
I thought everyone knew that
the idea that it was ebola is laughable really. You know nothing of ebola outside of what you've seen at the movies
am i right ?
lolol

Yeah like you'd read through that material earlier.
If you had you'd have noticed that its only effective in tropical countries.
But i guess they didn't mention that in "outbreak" huh

Not ebola no, but don't be too hasty to dismiss the idea it may have been some disease we don't currently know about. I too have read that some of the symtoms and the way the disease spread is inconsistent with the bubonic plague/rats's fleas theory original.gif

there ya go again only giving us 50 % of the story

"Bohemil Drasar, a bacteriologist at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine is unconvinced by the findings.
He said: "Black Death was the plague.
"This is fantasy."
He says it is unscientific to try to draw conclusions from historical records.
He said: "This is speculation and it doesn't explain anything extra by saying it wasn't bubonic plague"
You're being very picky with the facts lately essan. Are you writing a psuedo science book. Or reading one cool.gif cool.gif w00t.gif

dammit marduk u always have a comeback, dont u? huh.gif laugh.gif grin2.gif tongue.gif

Maybe it was the NWO/Illuminati/aliens and their nefarious plans to wipe out the human race and replace us with cyborg monkeys.

<Cease fire, all sarcasm beams>

Although, new strains of virus are still being found today. For example, google "Marburg Virus". More contagious than ebola, it is a class of hemeragic fever

The BP is balck death for one thing and i doubt that it could have been cause by another "doomsday" bug considering that they are generally engeineered and i sincerely doubt that they had that kind of technology back in the 15 and 16 centuriesand everybody who has ever picked up anything that talks about the Black Plauge says that the spread of it was caused by rats and more spefically by the fleas that where transferred from that rats to humans

Black death was a few centuries earlier, so it may well have been a kind of proto bubonic virus, but still the bubonic virus
The Roswell Man
i suppose u have evidence there marduk.
marduk
Same symptoms, different method of contagion.
Besides roswell I really recommend you read all the links before posting.
It said all this in the link that essan posted.

oh my mistake.
i thought u thought the evidence he provided woz shabby tho? huh.gif

The bubonic plague is a form of the black death but its NOT the only one. There are in fact three seperate diseases that interacted to create the massive epidemic we call the Black Death: the bubonic, the pnuemonic, and the septi caemic all of which are caused by the same bacteria carried by fleas(its been to long since I did this research so forgive me for forgetting the name).

The Bubonic is of course the best known whats less known is that the disease would move into the lungs in some patients causing the pnuemonic. the Pnuemonic plague is in fact passed by coughing and the same methods seen in influenza. This combined with a life expectency of only three days made it considerably more dangerous and is in fact the principle cause of the wide reach of the plague. The Sept caemic is the worst of the three forms caused then the flea has an extreme overabundence of the bacteria in its system. This form kills with in a day or two.

Hmm that would make it more deadly than ebola.
Apparently though since we've moved on aways since then i no longer need to walk around with a beak stuffed with lavender.

Yes, they all three can be treated with modern antibiotics, can't they? You'll hear people worrying about terrorists exposing everyone to the black plague, but it's really not a major danger.

don't even need modern antibiotics,
penecillin will do
The Roswell Man
penicillin may b 50+ years old, but it is still at the forfront of medical research involving antibiotics.
Though i believe bacterias future enemy in medicine will involve two things:
viruses(Bacteriophages)
nanotechnology
marduk
I really hope not.
Plagues and viruses are mother natures way of telling people "hey you're too weak to go on living"

Not the christians of course, only God's immediate family are allowed to do that. The rest of them either burn or have to sing to god for all eternity
I couldn't choose, could you ?

Yeah i can't wait til they actually prove that once the soul has left the body and is residing in another theres no way to reanimate those frozen pieces
i mean theres a cheap option where you just have your head frozen, the idea being they wait til they find a cure for whatever killed the individual.
Try and find a cure for a bodiless head. Walt disney went for that option and its where they got the idea for the head jars in futurama

Dr Zoidberg rocks
best episode was the one with the start trek cast
with their heads in jars
The Roswell Man
damn must have missed it. no.gif
anwayz marduk, which science mag u reckon is most reliable in content?
the speculation of the black death i read was in new scientist i think.

I would say Hustler or possibly even Fiesta

Nope, not really. Besides, there are already about 13 cases of bubonic plague every year in the US and its not being spread all over the place.

They're far more factual than most magazines that claim to represent the facts.
and more fun,
right ?
Conspiracy
wasnt the black death caused by fleas from rats?
LarryOldtimer
That the Black Death was Bubonic Plague is somewhat speculative, based on the presentation of dark (black) buboes on the bodies of victims. All we have to go on are descriptions of the symptoms by those who wrote about it at the time. But, it is caused by a bacteria, and modern antibiotics should cure it. More to worry about, if you are in the mood for worry, is the influenza pandemic of 1918, which killed about 675,000 Americans, and some 20 to 50 million people world wide (estimates vary widely). Just a variant of the common flu virus . . . for which we still have no cure at all. Moreover the "Spanish Lady" or "La Grippe", as it was called, was unlike ordinary flu inasmuch as the young and vigorous were as apt to succumb to it as were the very young and aged. A repeat of that one could easily happen in today's world, and medical science would be as helpless against it today as it was in 1918. sad.gif

Not to nit pick or any thing, but on the MTV show about Urban Myths, they said that Disney died about six or so months before the first cryo tube.

Nano technology you say...hmm Which Micael Crichton book has all the little cameras that go berserk (Prey?) I'm sorry but after that book, I just can't trust Nano tech....

I also have to mention the "Bring out yer Dead" Part of Monty Python and the Holy Grail...
