Here's an idea we came up with a long time ago. Legalize pot and put it under government control. Tax it. Get the country out of debt while having a good time doing it.
(for reasons of security I cannot say what level of conciousness we were at when we thought of that...)

schadeaux, on a serious note
My thoughts run along the same lines. Legalize it tax it and use the revenue to fight hard drugs. I am totally against manufactured and addictive drugs.

Actually, it is a very good idea. By putting it under government control, contracted out to private farmers, quantities and quality would be on the same level as tobacco. Various brands would emerge, new jobs in production and marketing would open up, and competition would move from the city streets to Wall Street. It would compete the drug cartels out of business, thereby cutting down drug related crime. It would also cut a big hole in the judicial docket, saving taxpayers time and money prosecuting Joe Schmoe (about 40,000 of them a week) for having a nickle baggie at home, under the bed, in a dirty sock covered in dust bunnies.
Just a thought...

I'd rather not have it legalized, for one it would cause a lot more trouble because more people would be stoned and looking for more. I estimate the accident rate would increase as those that are stoned on legal weed decide they can work that cut off saw as well as they could sober. All in all it's a bad idea.

And I doubt it could end with the dealers problem...even when placed under the control of the state the black market would remain.

I don’t want it legalised either.
*on a side note, I think that it is ridiculous that the Government banned the advertising of tobacco. As far as I am concerned, tobacco is a legal good and should have the right to be advertised like any other good. Do they really think that people can get addicted looking at an advert! I can’t believe they think that we are that incapable to make our own decisions as to buy cigarettes or not!!

What next? Banning car adverts??
Ok venting over.

I must have spent half of my misspent youth arguing the pro's of legalising cannibas , but as an Adult I have to say it's not one I would like to see legalised intirely . Sure enough sock draw Joe only needs a small fine (government revenue) not jail leave that for the violent criminals .
I cant see anything wrong with grown up people partaking in a bit of the old jolly any more than alcohol as long as it's social and not a way of life . However If it was legal I know of a lot of people who would use that excuse to smoke more of it more often.

@ MC
I don't think it should be legalized either. I'm not going to get into the argument on whether or not it's a hard enough drug to be concerned with, or the revenue that can be obtained with it.
When one considers all the illnesses caused by alcohol and tabacco, and the fact that it causes billions of dollars every year in health care costs, I think it's ridiculous to add another drug into societies problems. How much revenue will there be when the costs catch up in another decade or so?
