Full Version: Faith Healing

We all have heard of faith healers, usually a white male, screaming southern baptist style of preaching.
The put their hands on peoples head and say something like YOUR ARE HEALED OR THE POWER OF CHRIST HEALS YOU.... w00t.gif

This is not limited to Christian faith, their are Jewish faith healers also.

As far as I can see, we can only PROVE one of two things happening. One they are fakes (I can claim some illness and scream I am cured when touched). innocent.gif

The other is the placebo effect. This is a well known, well documented effect. Basicly, in clinicial trials of new drugs, a given percent of the patients will show signs of improvment becouse they think they should (they took medicine-didn't they). This can be anywhere from 5-15% of a test group. wink2.gif

We see all about those who are healed from the faith healer, but what percent of people they touch are actually healed from their illness. This would make for a very interesting study. thumbsup.gif

there was some work done on this at some point and it found people did no better than if they didn't bother with the faith healer (statiscally).

studies have shown the mental state to be very important (in fact some say the most important) indicator of survival of major illness/surgury.

I hope that you are not just looking at the ilk of Benny Hinn.
Many healers are not men but in fact woman, and they preform holistic healing on a daily basis.
Benny Hinn, and their ilk are IMO charlatains.
I agree that the power of the mind is the key, just as I also believe it to be the key to many other things.

There is much truth to that statement.

We are beginning to see a new awareness and acceptance in alternative forms of healing.
I think it needs to start with the belief that we treat THE WHOLE BODY, instead of the current treat the symptom.

I think it is woman who spearhead this new approach, not some blowhort tela-evangalist.
Did we not learn from Jimmy and Tammy Faye Bakker???

faith healers, IMO, are all fake... the only people ever able to heal were Jesus and his disciples... that is all... no others... so, unless i go to one and they heal an infirmity of mine, they are fake. just like psychics and mediums and all that hollabalooo

WHAT? I think God can defianatly work through people to heal the sick. Yes if a person that is going up for prayer but is lacking in faith they won't be healed. do u understand what I am saying lover of God? 101
LoVer_Of_GoD
yes, but someone that is being worked through by God isnt going to be on TV and making a big deal like these do... if someone does that, they are not being humble... like jesus and his disciples... like solomon.

that is what i meant.. i dont think that the faith healers are fake, just the ones that do that crap on TV...

oh okay. I believe you are right why would they make a huge deal out of it. If people are going to be healed it can happen at a home, bible study church anywhere but humility should be practiced.

If I am not mistaken, the bible talks about that ''many will perform false miracles.''

I think, that many have performed "false miracles" to make money.

What is false miracles ?
LoVer_Of_GoD
u are right, many have performed false miracles... and they ARE doing it for money.... it is common nowadays for the leaders of the churches to be in it for money... hell, the leader of the local church here has a corvette stingray and 2 brand new trucks... so i know what kinda person he is... using the church and God's name for self promotion.... well, i cant wait till i become a preacher, and i can show the world what it means to truly love god and have faith... the world only sees these things and figures that all of us are like that, but i know i would and do give all my money helping others.

Benny Hinn and those preachers who put on a show by grabbing someones head and pushing them down and act like they healed them. I think its fake and used as a tool to make money. I don't thing God likes this too much.
LoVer_Of_GoD
hes prolly pissed about it

Sorry wrong read your bible. Christ said that his followers would be known by several signs(see Mathew for example) one of which was the healing of the sick.

Can some people aid healing through divine grace? I believe so yes. Can any of the ones who blatently advertize? ALmost defenately not. Check out James Randi's "Faith Healers" for an excelent look at some of the greatest charlitans in the field(gotta love Peter Putthoff who's "voice of God" was captured on transmitter and in fact proved to by the voice of his wife reading info his victems supplied at the beginning of the show).

Faith healing is all in your head, and your head is the most powerful thing in the universe. Jesus healed people not because he was the son of God, but because he had faith. He said himself "if you have enough faith, you could move that mountain." Havent you ever heard of people lifting up cars to get people out from underneath them? A better example would be Rasputin he was poisoned, shot, stabbed, beaten, and thrown into freezing water. When they found his body his heart was still beating. Why? Because he had such strong belief in his invincibility he became able to manipulate reality and keep himself alive. You CAN do anything if you put your mind to it. That should be taken literally.

i first thought of benny hill when i saw that and had a chuckle. if you don't know benny hill, look him up. He would have done a perfect comedy parody of what you described....

this is what i tell people all the time! the real power is the mind, not some religion or whether higher order beings exist or not, but YOU!
