Nothing would have happened to religion since it's all based on personal interpretation. Those Christians who don't believe in aliens would simply reevaluate their beliefs and move on.
why are u saying their belief would have to be reevaluated? it will probably get reinforced and stronger.

I sincerly hope that IF that day ever comes when 'aliens' come down and officially make themselves 'known' to EVERYONE, that we remain HUMBLE. It would be quite a large mistake I think to get angry because of the ways their religious views are changed, and do something incredibly ignorant and just plain wrong, agaist the 'aliens'. Could mark our demise...
And I DO agree that the 'aliens' would have something to say about the fact that our books say that WE are created in God's Image...What makes us more important than them? They would have as much say as we do, right? "GOD" knows they have seen more of "God's" creations than we could even dream...Provided of course if they have a Religious Stance on the whole shabang...
To me, in order for a race to reach a level of technology as extreme as to travel the universe, they can have no sepratory religious beliefs. Either they don't believe in a "God" or "God's", or they just don't need too. This also goes for their entire civilization. I don't believe that in any way, a race could evolve to their 'supposed' extent, without being united together as an entire race (meaning their WHOLE planet). With the advancement in technology, even on OUR level, it is growing threatening to our ENTIRE race, because of these internal strifes.
We still fight over religion...We still fight over land...We still fight over the exsistance of "God"...We still fight over money...
We have quite a LOT to learn about being a successful Race in the universe. As of this time in our exsistance, we aren't ready to meet other races from other planets. We are ignorant. We are nieve. And like children, we believe WE are always correct.
First, we must accept that we may indeed be....."God" forbid.......WRONG....

I truly think that if aliens landed they could have their own thoughts of a god or suprem being that made them. But one part of believing in our dear lord is that we don't force our religon of god on those who don't believe he is there.
And in answer to a question: I do know that god would not want us to kill in his name. he wishes for peace between all who live, not for us to kill each other.
And so what if he made us different then them, maybe in their religon they are made in their all mighty being(that is if the have a relgon.

And you don't see the potential for conflict in your last statement?
The book states that men were created in gods image, no? What if the aliens from planet greeble have a holy book that states that greebleans were created in the image of god.
If they're right, then humans are wrong. If humans are right, then greeblans are wrong. Or does the fact that they are aliens make for the possibility of an 'alien god'?

Not to seem nitpicky, but the question asked here is "what would happen to religion", not Christianity. Really, folks, the Bible doesn't house the religious beliefs of our entire planet, just a portion of its people. Most religions have room in their belief system for beings outside of our world.
I would be interested in the thoughts of some pagans, Hindus, Buddists, et. al. I know we have quite a few pagans here on this board, and I'm sure others are represented, too.

Reading everyones posts I saw the same thing and then seen you had beat me to it.

One thing I have noticed that you did not touch on is.....Why when religion is mentioned everyone automatically think Christianity?
......Self centered?.......Vain?......Egotistical?......

I'd be interested to see humans trying to enforce the fact on a super-advanced species that we are actually the superior beings, since god created us in his image, not them.

LOL that would be funny.
Im sure that other civilizations either have no religion at all or have moved past spiritual beliefs as they became more technologically advanced. Its something that we are inevitibly going to leave behind at some point.

As our species grows, intellectually and emotionally, we may find that the concept of faith in the unseen diminishes.
Just as, when a child, you are afraid of the dark and what may lurk in it. As you grow older, you realize that the dark is just the absence of light, and there is no need to fear it.

I guess that would depend on your definition of religion.
Are u a follower or a leader?
Do you believe that the church is your only conduit to God?

So then do you believe that god is within ?
If that is the case that you are your own conduit to god, why do we need the church?
Would we not be better off without religion, and the division it brings to society?

My previous post WAS from another point of view....Deist...

Just because I said "God" didn't mean I meant the Bible.....should have just called him/her/it "The Creator" I guess...
