It is not going to happen. Civilizations through time and all over the world come up with ways their lives are all going to end catastrophically yet the world still seems to be here.
No country will use nukes because of MAD, maybe a terroist would, but why have they waited so long...? Even if terroists did there would be no nuclear war.
And that mass extinction thing, we are destroying the environment, but if we do get wiped out that wont be the reason. Its not as bad as everyone thinks and it will never be too late to save the rich and powerful.
Hey, maybe we will turn into famers and abandon our civilizations like the Mayan's did?

No country would use nukes, huh?
Who is the ONLY country, to date, that has used nuclear weapons in war?
Need a hint? I won't mention its name, but I'll give you the initials: U.S.A.
Do some research on the cold war and see how many times the button was 'almost' pushed during the cold war '60's.
But it is refreshing to see such faith in the intelligence of mankind. Even if it is a little naive.

Actually it his a proven historical point that all life on the planet goes through stages.
Think of it like two pyramids with the points touching each other. The base is the most life on the planet and it slowly starts to die off to the point and the starts to grow again.
This cycle has happened 5-7 times in the planets history. That is why some periods have many fossils to be found and others have relatively few.

Compared to the age of the earth, humans only make up a small percent. Meaning, we really havent been here that long.
Only time will tell.

Indeed, put into scale, if the earth was a year old, then humans appeared on earth at around about dec. 31st at 8pm.

If anything, We could be wiped out by our own technology.

i do'nt think we will all be wiped out any time soon, but who knows?i think it is far more likely we will blast each other to bits, before we are all wiped out by a virus, meteor,or some other act of nature.i do'nt trust anybody with their fingers on a nuclear launch code, bet none of has a choice though!!!

I'm with you Mr. Ed.
I think you nailed it on the head here:

If ALL people had a vote in the matter of nukes, then there wouldnt be any... because i dont see how it helps any...It kills innoceny victims, but anyhow.. im off topic..
I think one day it could happen.. its very possible.. I mean... we are only a grain of sand in the universe.

My grandmother remembered when she was a little girl and people were warning of the end of the world then. That was, ohhhh, 98 years ago.

Am I hallucinating. wasn't this sunject posted less than a wek ago
http://www.unexplained-mysteries.com/forum...showtopic=37734ah yes there it is ?
Have we not finished this subject yet ?
The best quote I ever saw on this subject was when Bill Pullman said in "Independance Day"
"we will not go quietly into the night"
I watched that movie in a cinema full of yanks and let me tell you theres no

chance of them going anywhere quietly into anything especially when he added "lets make this day our independance day"

human life wont go extinct, im pretty sure there will be some survivors to w/e happens.

I actually have studied the cold war and am not naive about it. They may have come close to 'pushing the button' but realistically they would not have, in my opinion of course. USA only used nukes when only they had them...therefore they were at no risk.
USSR would not have launched nukes because firing a nuke is essentially committing suicide. Stalin was the crazy one and he died before the cold war got heated...

Lets hope that your assessment is correct Mr Ed.
Unfortunately, with the number of nations that possess nuclear weapons technology increasing, every year, the chance that there will be someone desperate enough to start throwing nukes also increases.
And, I'm sure, someone, somewhere, is just itching to try out one of those babies.....

We have to remember a couple of important facts here. We don't
have to kill ourselves off, there are PLENTY of other ways we could
go. Anything that would cause serious changes to weather patterns
(there are lots'o them), would really change life as we know it. I
don't want to sound like a doom-sayer but some of these things are
already happening. On the other hand, who knows (or can predict)
when something catastrophic could happen? I only talked about
weather patterns but there are more.
Sad fact: The earths record isn't so great, seeing that
99% of all it's creatures are now extinct...

No Marduk, this was in response to that thread. I think the idea of Humans carrying on as opposed to mass exctinction deserves a thread of its own.
Also JM remember some countries have agreed to disarm their weapons under the pressure of more powerful one's ie the USA and UK.
Lol there probably is, hopefully they aren't a mad despot either.
Mr Ed

true vulture, but you also have to remember that 99% (assuming that statisitc is true) of all creatures did not have technology. Im sure in another 100 years there will be a colony of humans on at least the moon. anyway, maybe technology will be our saviour and we will spread out across the system.

That is indeed a sad fact. That is one damn high percentage.

They seem to nuke everything in movies these days to solve most things. Someone is bound to think this is actually true sadly. Nuclear weapons should have been banned purely because they affect the entire globe. Whoever develops and keeps them as a show of force and intimidation is no better than a 3 year old with a grenade. Its idiocy at its greatest to reign supreme because you have the power to blow everything up...even yourself...
If we are to experience a catastrophic event caused by as, then I sincerely hope we don't live through it to try again.
