PS3. For starters, it will be backwards compatible with both PS2 and PS1 games, so that's three consoles in one, and the Xbox2 will more likely than not, which means you will still have to keep an Xbox if you want to play the games.
And to me anyway the poor success of the first Xbox speaks for itself. There's at least 4 PS2 owners to every 1 Xbox owner, and to be honest i don't really see the point of having a console with only a handful of games the PS2 doesn't have anyway.
For me, it's more a question of the PS3, or the Nintendo Revolution, Xbox2 is not a contender in the next gen race.

Besides, Which console has always had the better library of games? Sony's PS line of consoles. It's very strong and xbox2 will only have perfect dark 0 to keep it going.

PS3!
Ive always liked PS1/2. so PS3 will most likely be just as great. Ive never liked xbox. its too big & has an ugly colour.
but even if PS3 comes out I cant buy it. Im still saving up for a (black) gamecube. XD

well, coming out a fair bit ahead of your competition, having a previous system to set an example, and having a stockpile of games (consdiering it was out well before the xbox debuted) would give it a far greater edge in the maket......
Xbox2.... I have had far more fun with my xbox, then I have with my ps2 or gamecube.... but I dont know the specs as yet... Xbox 1 was far more powerful then ps2....

If I were to get a gaming system of the options you gave, it would have to be PS3.
My reasons are great backward compatability. A great library of games I like-GTA series, the ultimate racing games-GT 1-4..........................................
I don't know about the new blueray dvd concept, but if it is backward compatable, fine. If the new standard fails (Sony mini disk, Sony DAT...) no biggie and if it takes off, you have a new dvd player too.

Personally, It all depends on the games available. If Sony keeps the library the way it's going, it'll be consumed with sports games. I don't really like sports games too much. If Microsoft and Bungie keep the Halo franchise going, then I would end up with X-Box2.
Ps2: Ridiculous amout of games, not many have great replay value. Even more of them I wouldn't even touch.
X-Box: Superior in graphics, and containing one of my favorite franchises. Halo. Besides, most of the great titles are ported to other systems, so I wouldn't have trouble getting my favortie games. Halo, BloodRayne, GTA. On one system. It's starting to make a lot more sense, you know?
Other then that, I like playing PC games. I'll more than likely just upgrade my computer.

PS3. no doubt. PS/2 has always had the better selection of games, while Xbox only has a few good games. plus, the xbox is too big and ugly and overheats easily, however, i will give it the advantage in the online gaming department. but other than that, it pretty much sucks. most of the games on it are for the other systems and the game that are Xbox exclusive arent that great, with the exception of a few, such as Riddick and Breakdown. the only games really keeping it as slightly succesful as it is are the Halo games, which are highly overrated anyways.

QUOTE
According to Microsoft, the Xbox has increased its market share for 14 consecutive months and now controls 37 percent of the console market. The Xbox was the only video game console to grow market share during both calendar year 2004 and the last quarter of 2004.
Its audience is getting bigger..... The others aren't...Which do you claim is being more succesful?

I don't deny it, you're absolutely right.
So then, whats the reason for the dire lack of original games on the Xbox? 95% of the library appeared on the PS2 too. You'd think if it was far more advanced, the library of games wouldn't have been just ported from a lesser system.
Subtemperate
Apr 21 2005, 02:54 PM
That could be because games developerss could be in it for say, the money, and they mat decide that the main system they want to port on would be one that has (at the time xbox debuted) 70% of the market......
Therefore its the developers fault, for instead of reaching new ground and using a superior system to bring new games, they went to the one they could make the most money out of first....
BurnSide
Apr 21 2005, 03:00 PM
Well, that's not true. Gamecube has a huge library all to itself, and many game developers are using it's superior graphics and gameplay engine to make incredible games never before seen. RE4 makes the very best Xbox can dish out look like Mario World.
Why don't game developers use the Xbox for these far advanced games? Simply put, because it's not as advanced, it's just a backup system.
Yeah, i'm a fanboy, i love every console except Xbox, i think it's just over hyped for nothing.

Gamecube has a huge library.....

Maybe in your neck of the woods... they have less games over here then the Nintendo DS, which has been out 2 months.....
I own Res 4, and disagree. I found the graphics alright, but nothing about that game had me replaying the gamecube after the first day I played it.
Using graphics to there capacity, and to there capabilites are far different things. Xbox is not being used to its full capacity, gamecube is.
Shakezulah
Apr 21 2005, 03:20 PM
the graphics are ALRIGHT?! RE4 graphics are some of the best graphics in any game to date, if not the best. plus the game rocks and has quite a bit of replay value after the first time you beat it, just not greatest. i dont know how you couldnt go back to that game after one play.

If your basing your choice on backward compatibility your being a bit daft.
How many Ps1 games are you gonna play when the new titles start pouring out ?
I keep all my Consoles, I have an original ps1 & Ps2 and a slimline, the cube, the n64 the Snes, the Dreamcast, the neogeo, the megadrive i could go on and on.
The point is I only play them once in a blue moon.
I'll buy all of them eventually, The first one will be the the best one as far as what it can produce for the games developed for it. Not becasue I have a childish grudge against a company

I completey agree with Subtemperate, why comment on something when your cleary biased about its competition. Re4 was good but made the Xbox look like mario ? Dont make me laugh.

Sorry man but I have to call you up on that one.

The Xbox had a weak start but has now become pretty damn successful, and Microsoft are finally making a profit on their hardware. At the end of 2004 Xboxes were outselling PS2's, go get some figures off the net
http://www.google.co.uk/search?sourceid=na...x+sales+in+2004Xbox also now has a pretty large catalogue of quality games with a fair few unique titles. A "handful of games" is a wild exaggeration. The Xbox was a superior piece of hardware to the PS2 despite sales being lower (PS2 had a big headstart too).
The Xbox 2 will be head to head with PS3 as the top console, it's hardware specs are through the roof, with a CPU by IBM of 4-5Ghz and a graphics chip based on ATI's upcoming and downright scarily fast R520 "Fudo". It also has MASSIVE developer support from all the top development houses, and has the near-unlimited financial weight of Microsoft behind it, as well as having the advantage that Xbox games are easier to code than playstation ones seeing as they are pretty much the same hardware/code as a regular PC, which ALL developers are familiar with.
I don't personally own any console except just lately a dreamcast, but i'm a moderator at a huge PC/console forum and I keep up to date with my tech news.
Calling the Xbox a waste of space when it has amazing hardware inside it and long-term development support is a tad strange... it is as feature rich as you can get and will be around for a long time. Have you played on one?

Xbox will be a real force and is due to be released before the PS3... I would put money on it being a serious threat to PS dominance... trust me on that one.

Not at all, my records were based on, as Richdog said, the weak start of the Xbox. It was pretty dire, on the launch alone the Gamecube itself sold over twice as many units as the Xbox, and indeed until the end of 2003 the xbox was an extremely weak contender, MS blaming this on a slow start in europe.
Evidently i was not aware of the recent high sales of Xbox. It is still not enough to overall suppass that of the PS2 by a long shot however, and it stands to reason that with the PS3 and Xbox2 the same will apply.

Indeed, although personal preference will always be a big factor. I myself, have yet to find a single Xbox-only game that i find that enjoyable, however it needs to be said on that route that most of my entire PS2 collection of games are available on Xbox too, save for a few personal favourites such as the Resident Evil series over the Gamecube and PS2.

Xbox 2 for me. Great graphics, great games. When I want to play a game, I don't want to go play the latest football game on PS2. (Sorry, but sports games seem to be the main thing PS2 is coming out with now. Definately not my cup of tea.)
Besides, my friend has a PS2 and the games she plays on it have terrible graphics. I've been told that it is because those games are older than the PS2, but it still has me biased. Kind of childish maybe, but I still like my Xbox better. I like the controllers for Xbox better as well.
If a friend shows me a great game on PS2, or PS3, that isn't on Xbox, I might go out and get one. But until then, I'm going to stick with the Xbox, one or two.
Who knows though, they might all be changed when the new ones come out. We'll just have to wait and see, no?

I would most likely be getting an Xbox. As i said, it's a matter of personal preferance to what games a person likes. If these games come out on only one platform, that's the platform i'll be getting.
The SH series are available on PS2 and Xbox. Capcom doesn't like Xbox, so the RE games are exclusive to Sony and Nintendo. Good for me i guess.

Check this list of Xbox exclusive games...
http://www.in5ane.com/platform/Xbox/exclusiveI can see at least ten games in there that make it essential to own an Xbox if consoles are your thing. Half-life 2? Only the biggest game to be released... ever... halo? 1 and 2? The best console FPS ever. Dead or Alive Ultimate? One of the best beat em ups in existence. Unreal tournament, Brute Force etc etc etc. So many uber-quality titles it's untrue...
PS2 has lots of games, 70% are poo. Xbox has fewer games... far higher quality and more innovation. Same as with the old dreamcast.
And the Xbox2 and PS3 scenario will be nothing like the original one where Xbox was released late and sales suffered... if anything this time it will be the other way around... Xbox2 will be far more multimedia-based, and the games hardware is so easy to code for developers will have far more time to concentrate on quality games rather than difficult coding, something all developers dream for, and hence why the Xbox2 is set to get so many jaw-dropping titles.

Indeed, especially with backwards compatibility. That makes three consoles in one.
Although i wouldn't put it past any of the consoles, i have to say, to include certain attributes, but have them unlockable with extra purchases. Like the current Xbox having DVD ability, but only if you buy the remote, or something to that effect.

I wonder which of the three systems will have best online capabilty?
And at what cost?
I currently have an XBOX, but I don't have the option of getting a cable modem in my area. (dial-up wont work)
If the new PS3 had some sort of high speed modem built in, then I would for sure purchase the PS3.
I do know that it would be very costly for Sony to do that, but I believe they would make money in the long run.

Xbox2 will also have a hard-drive... as well as a symbian OS. This means mods galore and lots and lots of downloadable stuff... you'll be able to use it like a limited PC for music or whatever you like.
PS3 will have no hard-drive, you'll need memory cards again and a HD will become available seperately for extra cost. Which sucks.
The games on both sytems are going to rock though that is for certain... though I think the Xbox2 will look better and run smoother.
