I tracked this when Sightings did it. Supposedly, Sally is a ghost who doesnt like the man of the house but is protective of the child. She physically attacks the man, leaving bleeding and scarring wounds...but they dont move to another house.

Apparently there are two versions of her story: she had severe stomach pains and the doctor knew she had appendecitus. she panicked and he had to hold her down to give her ether, but she wasnt quite out yet when he started operating, but he was too late and her appendix burst and her last sight was a man she thought was torturing her.

another says that she had respitory problems and the doctor was neglegent and she died of pnumonia.

I think on Sightings they said she was mistreated by a man, might have even been abused by her father. Either way, she doesnt like men.

but with the husband crying on camera while Sally attacks him, they STAY IN THAT HOUSE!!
HowdyDoo
I may be wrong...but I thought Sightings did a follow-up episode that indicated the family had moved (they were just renting the house) and the new tenents weren't experiencing any paranormal activities. Does anyone else remember this?

Dragonlady--you should have followed your own link and read through the entire thing...I found this on the PrairieGhosts website:

QUOTE
The family lived in the house for about a year and then could take it no more. They moved out but yet the man still reported welts and scratches appearing on his body in their new home. Eventually though, the attacks became less and less and then stopped altogether.
Another family moved into the house and so far, Sallie has failed to make an appearance.
dragonlady_mothman
No i dont. I'm pretty sure i missed an episode, though.
HowdyDoo
I guess whatever recipe was in place that haunted this family has faded, but it sure was a great ghost story.
dragonlady_mothman
one of my favorites on there! ^.^

Though i dont care if i couldnt offord a new house, if a disembodied voice told me to GET OUT!!! there would be no arguments from me, especially if it was a vengeful disembodied voice.

staying in a house with a ghost that routinely injures someone is just stupid.

UPDATE ON THE CASE FROM THE PARTICIPANTS INVOLVED:

What follows is a portion of the contact that I have had with the folks involved in this case. They are very nice, kind people and are very upset by some of the publicity and the slant that was placed on the case by "Sightings". I got the feeling that they were relieved to try and put set some of the record straight. I was happy to offer them this section to do that.

"To bring a bit of first hand experience to your research, I can tell you that the television crew, at the time of each taping, at our house DID NOT "enhance" the drama. The mere presence of the Sightings crew seemed to bring forth a "show" from the ghosts, and that is one of the reasons we put a stop to their investigation. We moved afterward because the activity got a bit worse even without them being there. For example, the last straw, that determined our need to move, was when my husband felt a strong shove from behind and his feet left the floor. The push left him flying in the direction of the railing at the top of the stairs. To this day he doesn't know how he didn't go over the railing and tumble head over heals down the stairs.
I can't go as far to verify or not either of the two stories you had posted at your web site. I had never heard either of them through the investigation Sightings or I had done. No concrete evidence or witness' or true word of mouth stories handed down through generations were ever found. Although I was once told that an elderly man who resides in this town does know the real story, he apparently won't speak of it to anyone. Why I don't know..... This leaves a lot of room for stories of pure speculation.

Yes, much of the information you have, regarding the actual goings on during taping, were inaccurate. the fires that broke out were very small, localized, and often mysteriously put out before we even knew it. Regarding the scratches: my husband rarely ever felt pain along with them. He would just feel a coldness go through a part of his body and upon looking he'd surprisingly discover scratches. I believe that he only felt actual pain on 3 occasions. The scratches really never bled very much, except the 3 severe ones (which he actually felt) and even those didn't bleed tremendously. My husband only saw Sallie once. The film footage logged with Sightings camera of actual scratches forming were on his stomach not his back. We had lived in the house for 22 months.

One point I will make, that Sightings neglected to make known, was the fact that there were 2 spirits in action at the house. Sallie was the child and for the most part a prankster. She was not the one creating severe scratches. There was a woman in her mid 30's who Sallie did not like and who blamed her for many of the things that occurred in the house (much of this information we received through a physic interpreter who was able to communicate, rather well, with Sallie.) The woman was, to say the least, very fond of my husband, and tried to get close to him and put great strife between our husband/wife bond. As reported to me in recent years, by my husband he said that at that time he was having horrible and uncontrollable thoughts of hating the mere sight of me as well as physically hurting to the point that I would no longer be a part of his life. These type of thoughts were very outrageous for my husband as I have never known anyone who could love and cherish his wife more.

Another point to ponder about is "possession". Laying on the couch in a deep sleep one afternoon, he sat up, looked directly at me (sitting at the other end of the couch) and in a strange voice, seemingly not of his own, said, "He's mine!".Then he laid back down. When he woke 20 minutes later he could remember nothing of what had transpired .
I believe that several things were actually going one in the house. Of course none that can actually be proven. And a lot of falsehoods have been generated on behalf of the investigations done."

ACK!! MY FAVORITE SIGHTINGS EPISODE AND THE RUINED IT! I HAVE BEEN TURNED OFF SIGHTINGS!!
Mel
I live near Atchison and the house was recently in the news again - also the guy that owns it tried to sell it on ebay not too long ago - no takers

i watched the movie that sightings made about this house the other night. in the movie they showed that there was more than one ghost. maybe that'll put some of your faith back in them! original.gif
in the movie the woman that haunted the house along w/sallie had had a black lover who was a servant (or slave i'm not sure on that) and her husband killed him.
it was made by sightings so supposedly it would have been pretty accurate but anytime a movie is made there is always 'artistic license'.
dragonlady_mothman
Yeah, but shows like sightings are supposed to give you the whole truth, you know? Okay, so fiction makes better ratings, but the whole point of the show is to give us information on strange things!

oh yeah i agree with you, i'm just saying that in the movie they made they mentioned more than just sallie.
they don't show sightings anymore where i live *sigh* i really miss that show.
The Skeptic Eric Raven
I wish they would bring it back. I watched it religously.

Once again, we need a Paranormal Channel.

We can call it Paranormal TV.

Or Creepy TV!

but then it'd be known as Pee tee vee!
let's go w/ the paranormal network grin2.gif
there's so many shows out there that it could run 24 hrs a day. but i'd only want 'fact' based shows and not episodes of the 'x-files' or anything. research and investigation shows only, that'd keep me watching. my kids would never sleep with their lights off again! lol
dragonlady_mothman
yeah. ^.^

it would never leave that channel.

so who do we write to to get it started? who owns TDC and TLC and all that?

PNN! ParaNormal Network!

Or Paranormal News Network.
coldethyl
doesn't ted turner or rupert murdock own everything to do with tv? wink2.gif

i'm all for it tho! i think we could round up enough support on this website to get something started!
dragonlady_mothman
FWEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

where do we post it?!

Turner owns everything on TV
coldethyl
i dunno, i guess we'd start a new thread. maybe we should check w/a moderator first tho just in case they think maybe trying to start a petition thread is a bad idea..
dragonlady_mothman
They have a paranormal TV board. that's where we'd do our thread, after we get permission.

I know of three moderators, Saruman, Thistle, and BurnSide. Burnside i've seen on here before.
coldethyl
perfect!

now all we need is to know who to submit a petition to.
i agree w/you that it'd be the best bet to submit it to whoever runs tlc and discovery. they seem like they'd be the most receptive.
feel free to send me a personal message anytime dragonlady!
dragonlady_mothman
i think Turner owns them, but im not sure. it would seem to be Discovery and Science arnt too far away from what we're after. Disocvery USED to have alot of neat things on there about animals and history and pararnormal...but it's all motorcycles now. unless it's a special occasion, like halloween or Christmas or soemthing, i dont watch. crying.gif
coldethyl
here's the website for the channels:

http://dsc.discovery.com/

one show i watch religiously on there is mythbusters. i can't miss that show!

i too remember when those channels used to show a lot more paranormal stuff. at least the science channel has a daily paranormal hour.
dragonlady_mothman
Kk, thanks.

I'll have to pay more attention to them, then.
LucidElement
scaryyyyyyyyy
Tia
Great story, but what gets me is after they do their investigating why not get an experienced psychic in to help the spirits move on rather than let them continue to stay.
rayce
Maybe someone on here can remember an episode where there was a house in Texas where the house would catch itself on fire? There was one scene of a rose in the kitchen window that was later foind burnt. I lived there for a short while and I have wanted to see that episode to validate the extreme stuff that even scared the southern baptists in our lives to turn a ghostly pale.

I don't really want to share what happened there, as I have no evidence. But I would really like to see the story of the house to make me feel less crazy for the experiences of shadow ghosts, among other things, that I found in that place.

I agree with you. I watched two different shows that did specials on the "ghost" and came to the conclusion that the man that was getting scratched was doing it to himself. I noticed that everyone one of the scratches(even the ones on his lower back) were always at an angle or a curve that would have occured had he done it himself. The scratch on his back(That supposedly occured while the cameras were rolling, although they were in a different room and not on him), was arched in a manner such that it looked like he had reached around behind his own back an gave himself a scratch along his lower back that began to bleed.

I think the whole thing was either a hoax to get attention or a hoax to make money; regardless it seemed like a hoax in my opinion.
coldethyl
yeah, i always thought he was doing it to himself. i can't remember if they told this on sightings or if it was on another program about the ghost but some ppl can scratch themselves and it show up with a few second 'delay' sort of making it look like they appear right in front of your eyes.
i wish i could find a clip of that video where they 'appear'.
didn't this family hide their identity first and then when sightings re-visited them they told their identity? seems like that's what i remember...

Erm.....correct me if I'm wrong but I am positive this was exposed as a fake. The husband confessed to it all and they moved away........then again, I could be wrong but I swear I read somewhere that it was proven to be a hoax hmm.gif

I would think so, but I hadn't heard that. I will have to google it and see what comes up...

The house is still haunted according to psychics who visited in February
Here is the article from the Atchison paper - they were also on a Kansas City news channel but their article and link is no longer working.

Ghost-hunters encounter ‘signs’

By MARILYN FONTENOT
marilynf@npgco.com

Atchison’s “ghosts” were all stirred up this weekend.

Three paranormal investigators from Colorado – Jeffrey O’Connel, Christopher Moon and Ian Neligh – came to Atchison to chase poltergeists, phantoms, apparitions and spirits.

The trio of ghost-hunters is part of a team of editors for Ghost Hunter Magazine, Highlands Ranch, Colo., who wanted information for their magazine. Their mission: to find out the truth about Atchison’s ghostly legacy. What they found didn’t shock them, especially when they checked out “Sally’s House” on Second Street.

“Thank you for letting us be here,” Mr. Moon said to the empty house. “Why do you come to us in our world in our form?”

That “form” was swirls and clouds of a white filmy covering that special equipment picked up. Cold air in the house gave the ghost hunters a clue – something was in the house. From high-tech recorders, an eerie, faint scream could be detected. It was a child’s scream, Mr. Moon said, coming from the same room where Sally died. It’s believed that Sally was brought to the house as a child by her mother to have surgery performed by a physician. As the story goes, Sally died on the table after experiencing excruciating pain from being operated on with no anesthesia. Now it’s believed she hates men and has been known to scratch, push and shove male intruders. Using heat-sensored thermometers, Mr. Moon and Mr. O’Connell picked up Sally’s trail.

“This is designed not to pick up electricity,” Mr. O’Connell said. “It’s picking up something. If the temperature drops, it’ll blur – it’ll pick up orbs and basic forms of spirits.”

After the team entered every room of Sally’s house, they left stuffed animals in the bedrooms. An hour went by, and the team entered the house again a little before midnight Saturday and found one of the toys moved. Everyone was together at the Glick Mansion across the street so there was no one else who entered the structure.

“Wow,” Mr. O’Connell said. “This wasn’t here before.”

While downstairs, Mr. Moon was trying to pick up sounds and Mr. Neligh was clicking his camera and taking notes. All of a sudden, Mr. Moon was struck in the ear.

“Man, that hurts,” he said. “What are you trying to tell us? Why are you so angry?”

Sally’s type of hauntings are sometimes classified as poltergeists. Paranormal investigators believe that poltergeists are often blamed for noises, banging on walls and the sound of footsteps. Some poltergeists take things and hide them; sometimes they place them in other spots. They’ve even been known to pull on people’s clothes and hair, often bringing pain.

“There’s something sticking in my ear,” Mr. Moon said, obviously in pain. “Take it out, take it out.”

Sally’s house wasn’t the only haunted house the team visited during their two-day visit to Atchison. They looked for Annie at Beatrice Shisler’s house, where they picked up cold spurts of air. They looked for Goldie at George and Thelma Gerardy’s McInteer Villa, they investigated Liz and Rex Lane’s home; and searched the Tea Room on The Mall.

At the Lane home, the team ran across the spirit of Donald L. Stewart, an African-American physician; his wife, Mildred Jones Stewart; and their gardener. The gardener, a white man in his 20s or 30s, is the one that gave them the most trouble, Mrs. Lane said.

“Oh my gosh, yes, they actually had some interesting experiences with a couple of them,” Mrs. Lane said. “The gardener is the mean one. They were actually pushed when they went up in the attic. He’s the one that does the mean things.”

There are, however, many theories to explain the thousands upon thousands of documented experiences that people around the world have had since the beginning of recorded history. Both Mr. Moon and Mr. O’Connell have had their own experiences when they were young boys, and those situations brought them to start their own magazine. Ghost Hunter Magazine was launched in August and promises to bring the paranormal up close and personal. The Atchison piece is expected to be published in their March edition, and can be found on line at www.ghosthuntermagazine.com.

The view of ghosts is that they are the spirits of dead people that for some reason are stuck between this plane of existence and the next, often as a result of some tragedy or trauma. Many ghost hunters and psychics believe that such earth-bound spirits don’t know they are dead.

Ghosts exist in a kind of limbo in which they haunt the scenes of their deaths or locations that were pleasant to them in life, much like Sally has been known to do.

“She’s here,” Mr. Moon said. “She’s mad, too.
dragonlady_mothman
I read about that. Either the doctor was just neglegent or she wasnt quite under when he was trying to take out her appendix and thinks she was being tortured.

i think i mentioned it.

but who's the other ghost? the old woman?
Mel
I have heard that the guy who owns the place may rent it out for investigations, because he can make lots of money that way. No one wants to buy it but lots of folks want to rent it.

When he listed it on ebay he was asking 2 million dollars - LOL!

You all are so very right, Sightings should have given the whole truth and facts about this haunting. That is what you depend on them for. I think they sqewed the facts for ratings. Sallie was blamed for all the negative antics and no mention was made until the last episode that there was more than one entity in the house. The movie that was made was loosly based on the facts. The things depicted happeneing in the movie did take place (except for the major fire at the end - ratings and the fact that it had to have an ending - which we don't have in reality yet). I know because I am the wife of the man who was tormented by this entity.

FluffyBunny, A healthy skepticism is manditory in this field, but we truely did not create this, and we did not make any money on this until Paramount approached us to make a movie about it 8 years after it happened. We were never in this for the money, just to bring it to light in the paraormal world. My husband is actually a very private individual and didn't want any of this known to the public. I on the other hand felt obligated to share with other investigators, things that had happened in our home. Much of what happened has never been public as it would have been to lengthy to put on any television show. I can provide you with multiple photos that were taken of my husbands body whereas it was scratched countless times infront of an investigator who sat next to him and kept his eyes on his every move for about 10 hours. He was flabergasted at the onset of every new scratch because it happened whle he was sitting right there. This was the episode that Kerry Gainor was in and in which they had pulled in every known piece of equipment to camp out in out house for the night. That was the same night the moan was later heard on the video tape when it was being reviewed or anylized.

Coldethyl, you are right we did hide our identy at first because we live in an extremely small town and one that was not open to the ideas of hauntings, ghosts and the like. Sightings didn't do a good job in hiding my husbands identy and within a month or so, the whole town knew who we were. We also tried to keep a low profile because my husbands family is well known in town and we didn't want to bring any unecessary stress on them because of our going public. Going public semed the only way we could get help with this. It turned out to bit us in the *ss. We were ridiculed for months, pointed at, pranked and more. Not something we enjoyed. Also FYI, the homeowner has rented this house to reputable investigators for as little as $40. There is a Kansas City team that has been in there many times as well as a team from Illinios.

There is a website that allows people to view (video) and listen to evidence (EVP's), post theories, add to the research and history on the house and my husband and I will gladly answer any questions you may have about what happened while we lived there as well as on the continuos investigations I am a part of. The following link will give people facts, dispel rumors and make available a forum for immediate answers to their questions. Haunted VoicesHope to see you there.

Dancin' Hamster - I would be very interested in where you read or heard that it was proven to be a fake because I had not gotten wind of that.

WOW!! Can't believe we have post from someone who has experienced this first hand!
