I heard about that show on the discovery channel although I never got the chance to see it. You don't sound stupid or anything, lol. Anythings possible, just some things aren't probable. In all truth, I don't believe in werewolves.

Yeah, the whole man turning into a wolf thing at the full moon is nothing more than a myth. There is a condition called lycantrophy, in which the victim thinks he/she is a wolf, but theres no pysical change from human to wolf, only a mental change.
QUOTE
Scientific Explanation of Werewolf Phenomenon:
Modern physicians diagnose the lycanthrope as suffering from 1. Schizophrenia, 2. Organic Brain Syndrome with psychosis, 3. Psychotic Depressive Reaction, 4. Hysterical Neurosis of the dissociative type, 5. Manic-depressive Psychosis and 6. Psychomotor Epilepsy. Science has found a chemical basis for lycanthropy. Hallucinogenic plants and fungus-infected grain had caused many of the so-called lycanthrope to believe that they had turned into wolves. The main ingredients of the ointments used by the werewolves were belladonna or nightshade that could produce hallucination and delusions of bodily metamorphose.
The diet of medieval peasants may have been another source of lycanthropic delusions. Bread was frequently made from ergot infected grains. Ergot is a fungus of which alkaloids are chemically related to LSD (LysergicAcid Diethylamide, a strong hallucinogenic psychoactive drug. The drug produces dreamlike changes in mood and thought, and alters the perception of time and space. It can create a feeling of lack of self-control, extreme terror and blur the feeling between the individual and the environment.) Like this modern drug, ergot infected grains can induce powerful and long lasting hallucination. In 1951, nearly 135 people had to be hospitalized and 6 died from ergot poisoning in the French town of Pont St. Esprit. They ate bread made from fungus infected rye. The victims had horrible visions of being attacked by tigers and snakes and of turning into beasts. This incident suggests that organic hallucination, rather than supernatural causes, may explain the werewolf phenomenon.
Something else has to be considered as well: the distinct possibility that some so-called werewolves were in fact the tragic victims of rare diseases like Rabies and Porphyria. A strain of virus carried by dogs, wolves and other animals including vampire bats causes Rabies. The virus strikes the central nervous system and produces uncontrollable excitement and painful contractions of the throat muscles’ intervention, which prevent the victim from drinking. Death usually occurs within three to five days of the first symptom. The second disease, Porphyria is a rare genetic disorder that results in a deficiency of heme, one of the pigments in the oxygen-carrying red blood cells. At the 1985 conference of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, biochemist David Dolphin suggested that the untreated symptoms of Porphyria match many of the traits associated with the classic lycanthrope. One of them is severe photosensitivity, which makes venturing out into daylight extremely painful and thus dooms the sufferer to a life of shadows and darkness. As the condition advances, the victim’s appearance grows increasingly morbid. Discoloration of the skin and an unusual thick growth of facial or body hair occur. There is a tendency for an abnormal change in skin and formation of sores. Eventually the disease attacks cartilage (the soft bone) and causes a progressive deterioration of the nose, ears, eyelids and fingers. The teeth, as well as the fingernails and the flesh beneath them might turn red or reddish brown because of deposition of Porphyrin, a component of Hemoglobin in the blood. Porphyria is often accompanied by mental disturbance, from mild hysteria to delirium and manic-depressive psychoses.

Don't worry about sounding like "the brightest crayon in the box" the object of these forums is to discuss this very thing regaless to how out of the norm it maybe. I personally don't believe in the Werewolf when a man changes into a wolf on a full moon, however I know there are people that are affected by the full moon and show agression like that of an animal.

Well... a person changing into a wolf (or whatever animal) physically doesn't exist I think.
But werewolves do. The term werewolf is used to poit at a large specimen of a wolf. A gaint wolf so to say. Some say these wolves are more intelligent and able to walk on hind leggs (welsh werewolf). But the truth in those stories...

I don't believe in them but everyones saying that so-
I don't think theres any chance of WereWOLFS per se. If a being had the super natural ability to become a wolf, surely it could take on other forms? What is it about Wolf's that set them aside in this field? Vampires can supposidly turn into Bats! What if these are just another breed of "shapeshifter?"

I'll always believe it's possible.
I believe it's possible for inter-species breeding. I believe it's possible there's a spirit that could take the form. I believe it's possible there are shape changers. I believe it could be a curse.
Also, those wolf boys in Mexico... we've all seen pictures of them. Normal kids with hair all over. Mix that with the medical lycanthropy as mentioned above and 200 years ago that would have really been like a full fledged werewolf... especially if the guy was a hulking individual. So I believe it's possible it's just a good story...
but none of these things keep me up at night. none of that is gives me a sensation of fear when I'm alone in the dark.
Edit: Like it matters, but I probably screwed up the terminology when I said "inter-species breeding". I don't know what the correct term is, but what I mean is centaur/minotaur/chimera looking things... I think is possible to breed a horse and a cat type thing... maybe not horse and cat specifically but... ok yeah sure horse and cat why not. I think things like that are possible. So wolf/man would fall under that possibility for me.

Werewolfs are the one supernatural creature that we can KNOW would have been captured and proven by now. It's simply impossibble that we as a species could see such a creature and not see the oppurtunity for profit. Whats more are we tallking about the conventional Werewolf (you know, on the night full moon changes no matter what, can't stop itself) because if so I'm sure there would be incident where a guy accedently catches a late train...

Actually, the "conventional" werewolf usually transformed through controllable processes such as magic or pacts with the devil or they could transform whenever they liked.

Exactly! I'm not an expert on the subject [Probably because of oral tradition instead of writing] but I remember hearing about shamans and witches [Africa and other places] who could shapeshift into animals and other strange creatures. This could possibly be an answer to where "Werewolf" came from, mostly because the wolf is a strong and legendary animal.
Also, I'm not going to claim to be an expert on this either, but turning on a full moon could easily be explained as some sort of root in ritual, maybe of shapeshifting. I remember reading things about why doing magick on certain moon phases is wise -- full being one of them. So maybe shapeshifting and magic go hand in hand?

I hate to use a Queue, but I live in a small town in Wisconsin, USA and we have more hauntings, UFO sightings, and Werewolves per mile than anywhere else. We pride ourselves on being down to earth, Normal People. And there in lays the problem.
Whats normal? Two houses up I have a guy who teaches English in China, and when home wears his hair in a bun, and plays with a Samurai sword.
Anyway to topic, we have lots of Indian Tribes who cling to folk lore and their history speaks of Werewolves as if real. If your really interested look up WWW. Weird Wisconsin.com. The guy has storys that go back 100 years or more. And remember, ED GIEN lived in Wisconsin, so watch the Hamburger!

I don't. It's physically impossible for a human to transform into another being.
There's some mighty strange things going on out there in this world, but the serious consideration morphing humans is asinine.
And as for your question of why would people way back when make up stories like this; well, it's human nature. We've been making stuff up since we learned to use hand gesturing to communicate. There are story tellers today, and there where story tellers since the beginning of time.
And people are gullible, too ready to believe.
