I'm looking to copy a CD onto my computer, so that I can have those songs as mp3's as well as on the CD itself.

I'm wondering if anyone knows how to do this -- can I do this with Media Player? CD burner? Or do I need a special program to do this?

Any help would be appreciated. thumbsup.gif

what windows Media Player do you have?

I have Windows XP (if that helps).

then your problably using version 9. I think on ver.9 it says something like copy from CD. in mines it says "RIP" at the top. does yours say "RIP" too?

Dis, do you have Windows Media Player 9 or 10? (Not that it really matters tongue.gif )

Okay, when I put in a CD a little window comes up asking what I want to do with the CD. I have the option to "Rip music from CD using Windows Media Player". Select that or something similar. Then, it should open WMP and start ripping. It usually just tosses it into My Music, unless it's set for somewhere else. Hope that helped.

if you download and install Windows media player 10-a free download, you will have the option to pick file size-to a degree.

here is a link to the free download:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsme...10/default.aspx

here is how, once you install player 10 and reboot-it is windows, goto tools-options ( a new box appears). Go to the tab"rip music" Here you can choose where your music gets stored, what format it is stored in and the audio quality (which effects the size)

Hope this helps you thumbsup.gif

Here is a small nice program for ripping cd's to mp3's the advantage of this little program is it can rip the whole cd or just 1 song or as many as youy want. The biggest advantage over windows media player is this program lets you select the bitrate you want to rip at, windows mp uses 96kbp...which is lousy fm radio quality. I rip at 192 which is CD quality. Give it a try, it is a nice ripper!

I use an MP3 program. AudioCatalyst. I don't remember where I got it from - as far as I know I've had it as long as my computer.

So yeah, AudioCatalyst will do all your ripping for you thumbsup.gif

Hey your talking about ripping! Anyway it's easy and you don't need a program. If you have iTurnes or something like that. You just create another playlist and then just drag the song from your CD to the playlist. It will be a minute or so until it's fully on the playlist. You can do more than one at a time. But I think only transfering one or two songs at a time is better.

Itunes is a program w00t.gif Does it let you pick the bitrate? I use Cdex to rip.

Not really. tongue.gif

But regardless, my question has been answered many times over, and I don't believe we need to keep this thread open. thumbsup.gif
