I was just curious about people's feelings about September 11th, the day the planes crashed into the Trade Towers of the United States. I can remember sitting in school, History class, and the teacher turned the T.V. on and that was the only thing on.
I was curious of the thoughts of other people from other nations or states.

I still can't comprehend the evil and the hate that was unleashed that day. I was the worst, well, close to the worst event in histroy.
What's bad is that some people think it is something to celebrate or something to be happy about. I've never heard of death being pleasureable but if it is, please inform me.
As far as my feelings, I really don't know what they are... sadness, fear, anger, I feel somewhat guilty that I'm still here and they are not.

It's a terrible thing that happpened, but it's hardly close to being one of the worst events in history.

How do you feel knowing Bush has left the Mexican / US border wide open for those same terrorist to cross carrying say a suite case nuke or bio/chem weapons to unleash on several US cities simotaneously.. Make 911 look like a day at the park!! Meanwhile he sends our family members to die in forgiegn countires "fighting the WOT".. Please, he hasn't even secured our borders. 911 was horrible. But they have done nothing to secure terrorists from entering our country without our knowledge to deliver an even more deadly attack. And that sickens me.

The USA orchasrtated it to allow more middle-eastern wars, which, afterall, are compulsary to sustain it's economey.

It didn't really have an affect on me.... I was 11 when it happened. It was 4 in the morning and my parents were watching it. I had no clue what was happening. Maybe if I were older when it happened it would affect me till this day..... but I think I was too young

.
But sometimes I wonder where America would be now if it never happened.....

I remember waking up in the morning and hearing my grandmother say "oh my god!" I was thinking what's got her excited now?.... then I went downstairs.... droppped everything I was holding when I seen the tower burning.... got a lot of chills..... and basically thought a war would be waged because of this...... my brother got up and asked what movie I was watching......

No one would tell us what happened in my school because so many people's parents worked in NYC. (my town is like 30 minutes from NYC)
EDIT: You could even see the smoke from the local beach.

I came home from work (it was 11pm where i was) and just thought "hey wow, if this was in a movie no-one would believe it".
Anyway, since then I've studied 9/11 as part of my theatre course at university - and how these attacks were a form of "performative theatre". It is really quite interesting.
THe reason why the WTC was targeted - being a WORLD trade centre, it was symbollic not only of attacks on America but the whole of the Western World.
The response from President Bush - how he manipulated press conferences and statements to steer America towards war. As an aside, did you know that an opinion poll taken two weeks before 9/11 showed that (depending on what part of America) 59-65% of the American populace was happy with the Bush administration. Shortly after 9/11, another opinion poll showed almost uniformly that 92% of the population was happy with how Bush was running the country.
The news reports - the constant repetition of images - primarily the plane's crashing into the buildings, and the scenes of people jumping from the towers. All this was designed as part of a campaign to not only get the information through, but to show it so many times that America will be screaming for war. btw, the repetition of these images got to the point where a spokesperson for NBC had to make a statement saying that these images would no longer be shown on television unless it was "absolutely necessary for the integrity of the story in question" (the quote may not be exactly right. But that's the gist of it)
THere's more, but I'm way too tired to put it into writing tonight. Good night all.

was a sad sad day , but nowhere near the worst in history.
pol pots murder of a million cambodians courtesy of the USA was just one of the things that pop into my mind.
saddest pic i saw was the two people holding hands as they jumped from a window , heartbreaking.
but not the worst, not by a mile.

When it comes to terrorism or anything else for that matter, I do not think that any attack on human life is less relevant than the next. Saying that though in my 30 years of living on this planet, the images that will stay with me for the rest of my days have to be the school in Beslan. The images and cruelty I saw in front of me in my cosy livingroom in Suburbia I hope will be the last evil and sadistic images that I will see in my lifetime.

No Walken that is just your opinion, mine too but this is not proven as for 911 yes it was terrible but we have lived with Terrorism in the UK for decades and it is no more devastating than the stuff we in the UK and Spain, Bali, Thailand (just to name a few) have had to endure and still do.. I get sick of the Americans thinking this is the one and only Terrorist act that has happened.

First off, 9/11 was a weird day, My work kinda halted and everyone went ot the big TV to watch the video footage come through.
Words dont describe the feelings that went through my body
Also I met my G/f in that canteen and went back to her house after work to watch on the news, a few months later we were living together.
Does anyone remember that programme in the UK that looked at politicians using fear as a tool in order to win support and force legislation.
Thats the most annoying thing post 9/11. Immigration became a big issue, then all the Anti terroist laws were passed etc.
Although new measures were required atleast the ones in the UK went too far
Blood Angel is the Guru on the laws and after effects of 9/11, he wrote an Artical on that very subject on this very site.
