John Cleese is my pic, but they really work best as a team. John Cleese is almost always crazy, and does lots of physical comedy.
Cleese:"When a fiend comes at you with a passionfruit...."
ALL:"WE'VE DONE PASSIONFRUIT!"
Man, I love that "Self-Defence Against Fruit".

I myself liked John Cleese more once they were split, with Fawlty Towers being one of my favourite shows of all time.....
As a group they all played their part, so its hard to judge them against each other in that regard.

It's a toss-up between Idle and Cleese. I think Eric Idle gets the nod though; just for memorizing those half-hour long run-on sentences he always did..

It was a tough call.
In a dead-heat, John Cleese wins my vote. My favourite sketch of all time - Gumby Brain Surgery: "Doctor, my brain hurts", is classic Cleese.

I thought John Cleese was part-ic-u-lar good as the guy who saw things as double in the prre-mountain expedition sketch. While Chapman was jumping around the room trashing the place he was putting on some part-ic-u-lar-ly incredible physical acting.

John Cleese
My favourite thing he was in was the spanish inquisition skit (no one expects the spanish inquisition).
After monty python broke up I also thought he was good in a show he made called How to Irritate people .

Michael Palin - in the dead parrot sketch is for me without a doubt the funniest moment in Python history. Wonderful stuff
