When you are having a nightmare....can u wake urself up from it?

If i am havin a really bad dream, and i dont wanna see whats gonna happen next i can kinda tell myself to wake up. I can actually hear myself say "i dont like this, am gettin out" and i wake up

can u do this?

Yes I can...! Also I control my dreams...sometimes I come out of a dream but my body is still in a state of sleep, this is actually horrible as it feels like being buried alive..? sad.gif

I have somtimes been able to wake myself up willingly, but most of the time if I am in a nightmare (which happens frequently which probably causes my sleepwalking and talking) I generally get so scared that either one or the other happens; I either get so scared that I jolt myself awake without thinking, or I get 'stuck' in the nightmare, not fully realising it is not real - and someone else wakes me! (luckily)

Everytime I am dreaming, I know I'm dreaming.

Its like I am complelty awake in my sub-conscious.

Sometimes though, I can't make myself wake up.
QueenoftheNight
I dream every night, usually nightmears. When I dream, Its completely real to me. It takes a few seconds to realize where I am and what I am doing when I wake up... I am always scared when I wake up because its like being pulled from what I was doing and being tranfered to my bed from what I was dreaming.
Undefined_innocence
Most of the time when i am dreaming, i realize it. But i still cannot do things that i want to sometimes because it is just embeded in my brain that i shouldnt be able to do that..EX: floating, flying.
I am able to wake myself most of the time.. but even when i so that.. at times i go back to sleep, and continue the dream.. or some version of it.
Silent_One
When I have nightmares I usually try to wake myself up. Most of the time it's easy but sometimes I really have to struggle to wake up. I try to move around, bite my lip, or even yell so much so that I can feal my body moving, my lip being bit and hear myself moaning. If that doesn't work I'm forced to let the dream continue until I wake up. sad.gif

Oh and one thing I love- sometimes I'm able to control my dreams. original.gif

Well... The only time I can waek myself up if I'm in a dire situation, I'm about to die, my friends are about to die, or if during a vision and I snap out of a psi phaze I almost always wake up after that.

i have tried and cannot wake from a dream, even if it is a normal dream or a nightmare but when i have a night mare i always wake up when i die or get hurt or about to. i have tried to wake my self and try to control the dreams but its like they have a mind of tehir own and can be disturbing most of times.
DEATHBOT 2000
I've had a problem with one particular nightmare since I was around 10 years old. It only happens maybe once or twice a year.

It's very difficult to explain and remember, until it happens. All I remember about it are strange shapes that change and feeling kinda lost within them and this horrible feeling of weightlessness and a strange feeling of an invisible force around me that pushes and pulls on me.

It may not sound terrifying, but from what I do remember, it really is bad. I really hate it when it happens, so much so that when I wake from it I have to turn the light on, and put some music or the TV on just to get my mind away from it.
FLY SPITTA
I can sometimes it's weird to explain it's just a self conscience thing...

Yes, you can.
However, you must know that you are dreaming. Therefor, you should train yourself to lucid dreaming. I cannot do it myself, but it is possible. Like some people here already said, you can then also control your dreams.

in my most scary nigthmare that i had it was about a monster of blood that i saw in a movie and i was traped with him in a very little pitch black room (so little that i couldn't take a step without stomping the monster foot), that was still a little comic cos i got control of myself in the dream and i tried to open the door of the room (was closed), them i paniced and started to do ESC then ALT+F4, then ALT+CTRL+DEL (XD) and still i couldnt got out then the monster hugs me ohmy.gif and i wake up. (no i didnt fell asleep over the computer). anyway i'm not making fun of this thread i'm just saying that dreams can get really silly sometimes grin2.gif .

That is of course also a possibility.
Now I'm thinking, possibly children are most capable of it (as they are with a lot of other 'gifts'). And you just continued doing it.

No.
Sometimes my nightmares have a sadistic end...and I either end up dead or killing someone, then I wake up happy.gif
No actually though...
sometimes I control them, but that's like when I am about to wake up or just going to sleep anyway.
Rarely know I'm dreaming - I think.
It's like movies playing in my head, but sometimes I feel them.
Like that dream I had about making out with someone I hadn't thought about for like a year...

yes l can wake myself up, l also can control my dreams sometimes,
l dream in color , l can also smell , taste ,and feel when l'm dreaming . does anyone also experience this? because my mom also dream like this but my uncle said that he dreams in black and white and can't taste or smell. just asking out of curiosity.

I can wake myself up from a bad dream but I only use that as a last resort as I can normally control my dreams. If I am having a nightmare, I try to change the direction to something a little more pleasant if the dream is relatively interesting. I don't want to waste the whole dream just because some of it is scary. I have found that the borderline creepy dreams are the most vivid and acton packed. But, sometimes, no matter how many time I try to change the dream, it keeps going back to the really scary stuff. That's when I have to wake myself up. I suppose it comes to that about twice a month or so.

Another cool thing I can do with my dreams is; if I have to wake up and get a glass of water or something, I can go right back to sleep and pick up the dream where it left off. Although, from time to time, the dream is all screwed up after I go back to sleep and I have to scrap the whole thing! laugh.gif

yes i can wake myself up. i can lucid dream but i had to teach myself to do it. i have a lot of books on the subject and i kept a lot of dream diaries.
i don't dream as much as i used to because i'm on sleep medication but i love to dream and i love reading the dream interpretation books. the more attention you pay to dreams the more intense they become imo.
sometimes i dream utter nonsense tho. i once dreamed my husband turned into a chicken nugget! dontgetit.gif

no, i cant wake myself up. i dont remember any of my dreams unless they are nightmares and thats not all the time. most mornings i wake up and theres nothing ever there. no dreams to remember. is that weird? and a few times i have woken up and went back into the dream. i wish i could always do that. ive also started to think about something so hard that i end up dreaming about it too. but i wish there was a way for me to remember my dreams more often.

you can teach yourself to lucid dream and it's not hard at all. mostly you just start off keeping dream diaries.
there are a lot of books available that can give you advice on how to teach yourself. i have one called 'the complete idiot's guide to interpreting your dreams' and there are lots more. just search for 'lucid dreaming'.

if i can teach myself to do it than anyone can! thumbsup.gif
