OK i'm going to pretend that i didn't read the poor insult. I do accept some critical comments on this forum but your one was a bit too far so unless you have something worth while saying why don't you just not post on this topc, aye.

Less than 10% of the ocean has been explored, and i believe there are depths that will not be explored for years more. If megs do exist, which i certainly believe they do (along with countless other species) we might never find them, or they might become extinct before we do. theres so much we dont know about our own planet, instead of the probes used for going out to space i think scientists should develop somthing to search Earth fully......well maybe not 'instead' but 'aswel'

people may have sighted them many times, but most people want evidence before they believe in things, and unfortunately it cant always be gathered so it gets shunned aside as fake.

Conspiracy
i hope one day they are discovered along sidemany other species
Megalodon
I agree, why waste billions on future missions to mars when we still haven't fully discovered our earth, finish the earth before moving on to other planets i say.

Well mate, just saw your little un-needed war with mr marduk there and have to say that u're closer to the truth. GWS are not ocean going. We call ocean going the blues, the hammerheads, the macos and especially the white-tips. People who have read abt sharks in general know that in ship wrecks and stuff you see mostly blues, white-tips, greys, whalers, bronzes, even tigers sometimes, but you will most probably not see a gw.
GWS are known to be quite territorial and always close to shore where their food is (seals).

Anyhow, at the moment there is no meg so no need to go into wwwIII on a speculated subject original.gif original.gif

Was actually referring partly to the Indianapolis. And actually I've read a bit more about it than what Shaw says in the Jaws. You can never tell of course, what's eating you alive but a lot of reasearchers in wreck sites have mostly seen those open water sharks, rather than gws. I would never say, of course, that a gw can't be around a wreck, but in general other sharks are responsible for open water attacks. Anyhow, I state the likelihood, not something rock solid.

By the way, a horrible story this Indianapolis affair....sometimes I think it was god's will, you know what the Indianapolis was carrying at the time.....
dragonlady_mothman
Sharks will go where the food is, so i guess if the seals suddenly migrate inward, the great whites would, too. it's also possible that in the past, great whites did stalk the oceans, because humans hadnt messed up the ecosystem.

but i'm not a great white and i'm not going to ask one! grin2.gif

It wasn't carrying anything.
it was on its way back.
On the way there it was officially carrying ten thousand rolls of toilet paper or a immersion heater for the general staffs bathromm, depending on which cover up was going on at the time.
The feeding habits of other sharks when great whites are in the water are pretty constant. They go away and don't come back til the white has gone.
seeing as the attacks were reported as constant the entire time the crew were in the water its pretty unlikely any whites were there at all
and as far as i'm aware no great white has ever been seen in those waters.
famous last words from jaws i know but it makes the likelihood of any great whites hunting crewmen in packs about 0% likely.

Megaladon i went too far with the insult and i apologise. i was having a bad day.
But man how can you call yourself something and then know very little about it. You don't get any decent facts about sharks from movies or fictional books.
Just entertainment.

The ship's captain, the late Charles Butler McVay III, survived and was court-martialed and convicted of "hazarding his ship by failing to zigzag" despite overwhelming evidence that the Navy itself had placed the ship in harm's way, despite testimony from the Japanese submarine commander that zigzagging would have made no difference, and despite that fact that, although over 350 navy ships were lost in combat in WWII, McVay was the only captain to be court-martialed. Materials declassified years later adds to the evidence that McVay was a scapegoat for the mistakes of others.

In October of 2000, following years of effort by the survivors and their supporters, legislation was passed in Washington and signed by President Clinton expressing the sense of Congress, among other things, that Captain McVay's record should now reflect that he is exonerated for the loss of the Indianapolis and for the death of her crew who were lost.

In July of 2001 the Navy Department announced that Captain McVay's record has been amended to exonerate him for the loss of the Indianapolis and the lives of those who perished as a result of her sinking. The action was taken by Secretary of the Navy Gordon R. England who was persuaded to do so by New Hampshire Senator Bob Smith, a strong advocate of McVay's innocence. The survivors are deeply grateful to Secretary England and Senator Smith and also to young Hunter Scott of Pensacola, Florida, without whom the injustice to Captain McVay would never have been brought to the attention of the media and the Congress.

Bit too late for McVay though, he always blamed himself and took his own life because of it

-sigh- since sharks are one of my favorite marine animals in the world, seeing a couple megalodons swim by would be awesome, unless it came at me lol

a website i found doing megalodon research (i wont post it because its an online store, but it has awesome images!) has a photoshopped image (might be from the tanaka website) of a little kid standing at an aquarium window, you know the big, in-door ones. The meg is up at the glass, her jaws open wide, and the kid's just standing there!

No, sir. Not me. no.gif I doubt i'd go anywhere below the water level of that thing's tank without a fight, especially after reading the book.

*shudders*

They told Angel to bite them...and bite them she did. dontgetit.gif

i dont mean swimming with them, i just mean watching them swim by, u silly moose xD
dragonlady_mothman
I didnt, either grin2.gif . The kid was looking into an aquarium with a meg in it, from the side instead of the top. This meant he had to go below the water level of the meg's tank to do it.
Conspiracy
tongue.gif hehe, i wouldnt mind being there to watch it, and i dont think a window like that meant to hold killer whales would hold a 100 foot long shark tongue.gif
dragonlady_mothman
You read any of the books? grin2.gif

no not yet, thats why i was asking earlier where i could find them mostly
dragonlady_mothman
Bookstores...might be able to find them online. They're real good, each one stands alone, but i'd start with Meg.

the coelacanth doesn't grow to 80 feet long and eat a humpback whale every week to survive
The coelacanth that is alive thesedays is also not the same as the fossilised one.
it has evolved over the years
so has the megalodon
thesedays we call it the great white shark

agreed dood. Only a very small persentage of the words oceans have been explored. MAybe it changed from a shallow water animal to a deep sea animal. That would explain for the lack of sightings. And then again, there are people who claim sightings of this giant shark still.

i think there is a debate whether the great white is really related to the megalodon since sig. differences in teeth design and so they not sure whether to the scientific name sorted either.

Nope
its a fact that there are differences
but heres the thing
we have no evidence of any large sharks between megalodon and great whites
so until a more likely suspect turns up
Its a bit like the pluto not being a planet thing
it makes sod all difference and eveyone believes it is anyway so why bother changing it
lets not forget here that the only thing we have of megalodon is the jawbone in rare cases and the teeth
it could have been an eel for all we know
