Well, i've stumbled across some DOOM movie images.
I'm not particularly impressed.
Could they have chosen anyone less DOOM-like than The Rock to play in this movie?
It seems from what i see, a little to similar to the Resident Evil movie. Note the costumes etc.
Anyway, see for yourself.

'Sarge' (The Rock) and his squad.

Spooked by a falling ceiling duct.

A soldier comes through the wormhole 'gateway' and stars to puke.

Well, at least they have the dark DOOM corridors right..
If anyone has any more pictures, feel more than free to share them.

Another classic case of 'The X-men costumes look stupid for a movie, so we're gonna change them into something cooler'.
Apparently, the guy from 'Hellboy' is cast to play the Imps.

Makes sense. I am interested to see how the demons look.
Oh, and they also changed the name of the BFG-9000. Of course, we know it's ment to be the 'Big Freaking Gun' or something to that extend i can't say because i'm a mod. But in the movie, it's gonna be the 'Bio-Fusion Gun'.
Lame!

i think the movie is gonna kick ass. and i also think the Rock is an excellent choice for this movie. he talked about it in his Daily Show interview, and it sounded awsome. i bet the movie is gonna be extremely entertaining and action pakced, and there's nothing wrong with that.

But, something about it feels very un-doom in my opinion.

lol yeah he talked about the BFG being called the Bio Fusion Gun and then Jon was like "...from my understanding, thats not what it really stands for." i thought that was pretty funny. it does seem un-doomish, but that didnt keep us from loving the RE movies, ya know? im sure it will have a lot of Doom elements in the movie, just not perfect. on a side-note, i recently played Doom 3 on my friends Xbox for the first time. and hoooly crap was that game awsome. a lot of parts scared the hell outta me.

Well as long as its not short on action, then I cant see it really dissapointing me, it looks just like a good old sci-fi shoot em up movie where theres nothing to really think about. And as long as it keeps most of the Doom elements from the games it should rockkkk.
BurnSide
May 5 2005, 12:55 AM
Agreed.
I hope they stick with the story. I mean come on, how hard would it be to stick to the DOOM story? As long as they have the complex slowly being transformed into hell, i'm good.

This is set on MARS, and it's MOONS. There is no grass, no outdoors without the spacesuit either! Not until the moons dissapear from mars orbit anyway.

yeah you know i was wondering the same thing. thats quite strange.
and i dont think this is gonna be anything like Alone in the Dark. that movie was pretty good, but not great. i mean, there wasnt even a final action scene. this looks to be much better.

I haven't played the Doom games so I am personally not bothered by changes made... I think it could be quite an entertaining movie and possibly the best video game adaption to date... even though I liked Super Mario Bros.
Do you guys know that they the demons are no longer from hell and from what I heard, they are scientists and the like transformed by a virus.
Also it is my understanding that Dwayne Johnson (The Rock) doesn't play the title character from the game, that honor in fact goes to Karl Urban. I heard that Rock actually dies in the movie.
One thing this movie will actually have going for it is that the whole of the last fight is gonna be shot entirely in FPS view... something which I don't think has been done on film before and could look cool as hell.

Its got the Rock. It'll be PG, or at most, M 15+.
I usually like his stuff (Walking Tall, the Scorpion King, the Mummy Returns), but I don't think he's suited for this role.

QUOTE
The basic premise of the film places the characters in the year 2145, the same year as the recently released DOOM 3 videogame. Forgoing the Martian setting from the game, a group of marines is sent to a distant (unspecified) planet to secure a science lab under attack from creatures of unknown origin. In addition to The Rock as Sarge, the film also stars Karl Urban as John "Reaper" Grimm, the formerly nameless space marine who acts as the film's central character.
Personally I think the Rock is a good actor, ok not the best but I think he is getting better with each movie and people wil leventually come to accept him as a good (albeit most likely just an action) star. He just needs a big breakout role...
BurnSide
May 5 2005, 08:03 PM
He needs a serious, non-action role with a few Grammy nominations to really show what he's made off.
So, this movie is not set on Mars, and it's about a virus infecting scientists... BOOOOORing.

Ghosts of Mars is starting to sound like a better DOOM movie.

The Rock IS the main character in the movie, and i doubt he will die. it would suck if he did. also, it does take place on Mars and the demons are still from hell. so no worries there. all of that is still the same. and tust me. it will be rated R. i remember the Rock talking about how violent the movie is in his interview.
i too think that the Rock should do a serious movie, but you know, thats not really what hes like. he just comepletely looks like a bad-ass action hero that suits him well. and persoanlly, i love his movies, my fav being The Rundown.

They dropped Hell! The creatures are mutants, no Mars.
No scare facotr here cuz: The virus infects people, then they become the demons...
A guy in a mechaincal wheelchair=Pinky
A strong guy who unwent surgery=Hell Knight
A guy with sum glasses=Imp
It wont be scary thats for sure. I think its sofa king gay how they dropped Hell and demons.
One more thing, I heard its ganna be PG-13, along with the Fog remake( the fog?!?!? They fluck up the remake?)

This movie has been discussed for the past seven years, and all they can come up with is a cheap version of Resident Evil? (Which wasn't that great of a movie to begin with.) I was really looking forward to seeing Cyberdemon or Spider Mastermind on the big screen. And it doesn't even take place on Mars?! I really doubt I'll ever see this movie.

ok, id just like to point out that the movie WILL be rated R. the Rock said it himself. besides, look at the games. do you really think they could pull a PG-13 rating off on Doom? so we can all count on it being good and bloody. also, there have been many ideas that the whole thing about the movie not taking place on Mars and having no hell was just a rumor that started on the internet and was taken too seriously. but i have also heard that the rumors are actually true, but the director was told not to make the movie involve hell, and all the fans are pissed at him and blaming him.
besides, honestly, why do we care about the storyline? everyone here who has played Doom played it for the demon slaughtering, not for the storyline. so as long as the movie has that, it will be fine.
on another note, if you dont want to know about the Rock's character, then dont read on. now these are just things ive heard. i cant justify them myself. but i have heard several things about the Rock's character in the movie, such as he will not die, but he will be turned into a demon or some kinda of monster by being infected with the virus, if that is the case. also, i have heard that he is evil from the beginning but in diguise as a marine.
and in explanation for the grass in the pic of the marines, my friend told me about something from one of the games that can turn the outside environment of Mars into an Earthly setting. so that theory, in a way, reinforces the fact that the movie could still be on Mars.

Event Horrizon was prety scary, Paul WS Anderson's only good movie... Do you guys remember a Sylvestor Stallon movie called Deathrace 2000? He is remaking that as Deathrace 3000 and I heard it's gonna be PG13... ARGHHH!
Don't you just hate movie producers... First off they are all into this 'remake' thing at the moment, which personally I don't mind as long as be remaking the movie they are adding something to it and making it better but a lot of them are just crap to try and cash in... remakes in the works include The Fog, Halloween, Evil Dead, The Hitcher and The Fly and they are also into this PG13 thing so they can make the movies just bloody enough to attract older teens but not so much that they can attract younger kids...
I personally liked the Mario movie... But a live action Mario movie that stays true to the game wouldn't work... Though if Pixar could make one, that would be cool.
Other videogame movies in the works include Hunter: The Reckoning and Farcry but don't expect them to be good because Uwe Boll is directing them. There's also Silent Hill and John Woo is producing a Metroid movie and a Rainbow Six movie and the guy who directed Transporter is directing a Driver movie, which could be good.
The problem is that there hasn't been a really good, big money making video game movie before so producers don't take them seriously. They think they can do them with average budgets, get average directors to do them, change things around to make them 'cool' and because they are video games they will already have a big fanbase... When a video game adaptation comes along that is really good and makes a ton of money producers will take note and realise there is actual money to be made from these things and that's when we will get the good aaptations... We just need someone with the balls to make one true to a game and make it good.
