Hey you guys..I was wondering, since i am a big fan of keeping "stick insects" or "walking sticks", maybe there are other people who like keeping bugs too out there ?
My favourite would be the Eurycantha Calcarata SSP, and big species of stick insects from Borneo. They are quite easy to rare, and they like eating bramble or ivy. Right now, i have 2 adult females and 2 adult males. The males fight, so i keep on of them in a seperate cage.
I have 3 other species of smaller stick insects. Attached are pics of the Eurycanthas.
Does anyone likes buggs too ?

I don't keep insects, but they are fascinating (except the ones that sting or bite me). My sister once brought a preying mantis in to the house. Unbeknownst to her, its egg sac came in as well. Soon there were hundreds of baby mantis all over the place. My mom vacuumed them up.

Any insect would have to fear for it's life around me.

Yeah mantis are cool, but they are not really suitable for keeping as pets...They dont need a big cage, but they just are not happy when captive..

My sister had a praying mantis for awhile, but let it go later on and she had a pet cockroach. It was a baby, and that died (her teacher gave it to her).
Another one she had was a giant water bug that was around 3 inches long. She used to work in a pet store, and someone brought it in because they had found it on her car.
She also has a tarantula and I used to have a scorpion, but those don't count as insects.
I did have a giant African millipede a little while ago, but it died and we don't know why.

Oh crap, those things are huge! I don't think I'd ever want one as a pet.

I want a spider if that counts. Not a tarantula, that's just a wannabe spider. But something really poisonous, like a Tunnel Web Spider or something

I did have an ant colony outside my house growing up though, they were my army

I would always drag beetles and worms and pit them against one another, it was awesome.. I miss being a kid

I was just thinking the same thing when I entered this thread. I've actually seen a really small one before.. I'm not sure if it was a praying mantis or just a relative species or something, but it was cool.

Man, those things are huge! What type of cage do you keep them in? Can you tell me the setup of it?

This is a picture of their cage..Hummm..I feed them ivy and sometimes some lettuce or apple. They drink from a scale of water. At night, i sometimes hear them move around and eat...But i got used to the sounds
I collect eggs and let them hatch (after about half a year they hatch ) and i keep the little ones apart. They really are nice pets, i had hamsters before, and i really prefer these insects. They are really strong and live long for a bug !

Oh, I also raised monarch butterflys from the caterpillars. That was cool.
My sister keeps her tarantula in a bird cage (no birds in it though), and it will stink it's legs out, it's really freaky to watch.

I used to just keep the bugs I found as pets, grasshoppers, locusts, moths and butterfies were my favourites but I also had some ants, spiders, stink beetles, I was gonna keep a black widow, but I found out they were poisonous and beat it over and over again with a piece of plywood.

blah....I'm right with you on that....those things are f**cking huge...blah...though I don't mind touching LOCUSTS........their life is interesting...living 12-13 years underground to come out, grow wings, and only a few days to get themselves some ass before they die. So I had a locust hooker house full of lady locust for the stud.....hey, I'm doing him a favor.

When I was a kid I used to have a slew of grasshoppers, ladybugs, moths, lightning bugs, etc. in jars and flying around in my room. My parents weren't too pleased.

A bee keeper used to set up hives around my grandparents blueberry fields and cranberry bog to pollinate the bushes. My father learned how to handle them and collect the comb. We always had raw honey which is the best. I still use raw honey in my tea which I buy from the beekeeper's family.

I have had a tarantula for over a year and a half now. We call her Becky! I don't know why.
On a side note...while working in the yard recently, I was about to step on a huge red ant. But I thought...aw, let the little bugger roam free...so I gave him a little flip away from my foot...unfortunately for him, he went right into a spider web under a rock and immediately a huge spider ran out and grabbed him and whisked him away inside the web of fate.
Poor little ant.....and so the circle of life continues.........

I have a pet spider i found in my room one day. It eats everything I put in there including much larger spiders. Once I found this small furry cattapilar like thing in my room and I kept it for about two months. It would also kill and eat everything it saw. One day I let him go though. No idea what it really was.

Luna moths, in my opinion, would be the excellent way to go if I wanted a bug. See the below photo in case you don't know what they are.[attachmentid=20337]

When I was little I use to have no freinds. The only thing I use to do was spend all day in the garden looking and playing with mini beasts/ insects. I got into a lot of trouble when I took home huuge Stag Beetles from School, coz My mother was freaked out by them! They make this loud deep buzzing sound when they fly lol
When I was in Primary School, my freind gave me her stickinsects because she had to move to America (Virginia) so could not take them with her. I kept them for a few months until I let them free in the garden. I regreted it because they were they the only things that I had from her. But, a week or so went past, and I went into the garden to throw away the tank that I use to keep the Stickinsects in, and I found cute little babies in there (I did not know there were eggs in the tank as they look alot like their pooh - little black balls). So I kept the babies until they grew up and laid eggs and I currently have the 20th generation or something from the ones my freind gave me.
I use to have some creme coloured Scorpions but I gave them away when they became adults as My mother did not like the look of them lol.
