SACRAMENTO, California (AP) -- Wildlife regulators took the first step Tuesday to bar hunters from using the Internet to shoot animals, responding to a Texas Web site that planned to let users fire at real game with the click of a mouse.

The Fish and Game Commission ordered wildlife officials to prepare emergency regulations to ban the practice. A period of public comment will follow.

"We don't think Californians should be able to hunt sitting at their computers at home," said Steve Martarano, a spokesman for the state Department of Fish and Game.

A bill passed by the state Senate two weeks ago would prohibit use of computer-assisted hunting sites and ban the import or export of any animal killed using computer-assisted hunting. The measure now moves to the state Assembly.

At least 14 other states and Congress are considering similar bills.

Groups including the California Sportsmen's Association, Safari Club International and the Outdoor Sportsman's Coalition of California support the ban, saying hunting over the Internet is unethical and unsporting.

Supporters have suggested the remote hunting could be beneficial for hunters with disabilities and questioned why Californians should be barred from patronizing a legitimate Texas business.

This is how I saw this site in the first place: A place to hunt for people that can't get out of the house. Like if you are stuck in a wheelchair or any other condition. Now, if you are some average joe to lazy to move your arse off the chair then sure make it illegal.

I don't get it. How can you actually hunt from a computer and sitting in a chair. Does someone else shoot the animal for you?

I think a few months ago someone invented a remote-controlled device connected to a rifle and a camera, but I don't know the details.

Once all the payments have been arranged the men on the range release an animal for you to shoot.

The gun is positioned on an elaborate bench which is hooked up to a webcam and remote, allowing the hunter to zoom-in and move the gun across the bench from side to side.

All forms of hunting should be banned. Unless its for basic purposes such as hides and meat. Hunting for fun and sport is ghastly.

I agree. This is even worse. Whats to stop a sneaky ten year old with his daddys credit card shooting animals now?

Does the animal just stand there???
IF the animal does not move. Thats not hunting thats just cold blooded killing no.gif

This is wrong. I never believed in hunting for sport. Its a different story if your going to use the meat and hide.

I was out spotting for my dad at 10, and armed with a gun at 12 for hunting... So, if the kid wants to hunt, heck let him hunt!

The area is fenced off and the rifle has a clear view of the entire area. The deer (or whatever) is released into the fenced area and blown away.
Conspiracy

Well, you have to move the gun around at least. But, it is not like the deer has any where to run if you miss... Not bad if you are handicap, but if your just lazy well then you are stupid.

Trully disgusting, its nothing more than murder, realeasing an animals into a small area and having someone shoot at them just for fun, if I ever met someone who did this they would end up in a world of pain.
