Okay, in this topic, you can recommend any movie you've seen and liked. It can be a well-known movie that you want people to see, or even a movie that is not very well known, that you've seen and think other people would like.
Pretty self-explainatory. Please include details as to why you are recommending this movie, and please don't go flaming other peoples choices or the like, we don't need that.
Go.

Kind of obvious with me, but Pulp Fiction. This movie, although quite violent and heavy on language, is a very creative film by Quentin Tarintino. I believe that it is his best one. The thing that makes this movie so good is that he doesn't do what everyone does and just have the movie go in order for two hours. He mixes everything up, so you have to guess what happens in between sections of the movie.... Also, the acting is top notch, with Bruce Willis, John Travolta and Samuel L Jackson..

See, JackBauer's description made me really want to see Plup Fiction, while A Believer of the Unexplained's... not so much. Put a little thought into it!

Of course i have seen Pulp Fiction, good call though, truely is a cult classic.
My recommendation for now is for all the hard action lovers out there.
JET LI - The One.
The One i thought was EXCELLENT. It involved 125 or so Jet Li's, all living in parallel universes. In some of these universes the inhabitants have discovered wasy of travelling through the universes. One bad Jet li discovered that he could kill off all the other Jet Lis in different Universes and get stronger, until he's down to the very last Jet Li, in our Universe.
It's an insane mix of incredible stunts and fight scenes with amazing special effects, a soundtrack to die for, and a all-round excellent cast of actors and actresses.
And seriously, how can you go wrong with slow motion super-Jet Li fighting super Jet-Li!!?

fine... let's think.... The movie Dead Poets Society was really good, because it tells how you should stand up for what you believe in(when the guy wants to be an actor). Also it says be poetic at the soul, even when you're having a bad life....
is that good enough??

Mission Impossible.
The 1st of 2 movies in a great series.
It starts in Kiev as the covert IMF(Impossible Mission Force) are trying to get some info from a quote un-quote bad guy. They then go to Prauge for a mission.
Re group for the mission and go into the Embassy in Prauge to catch Alexander Golitsyn from stealing and selling the CIA's NOC list, a list used to protect the IMF's agents code names and real names. Everyone in the team is murdered except Ethan Hunt(Tom Cruise) he then goes for a late night rondevous with Kitridge of the IMF heirarchy, who thn tells Hunt that the mission was only a mole hunt and that they believe Hunt to be this mole.Hunt get's away only to track down one of the worlds most fearded arms dealers MAX and coxes info from MAX to find out who set him up.So Ethan enlists some help from the CIA's dissavowed list now to ctach the mole who set Ethan up he needs to steal the real NOC list from the CIA HQ in Virginia Langley.Amazing action ensues as Ethan and his band of IMF dissavowed agents manipulate the master computer at the worlds most secure location. The movie ends with and amazing high speed fight on the top of a bullet train in which A helicopter is attached to the train with a steel wire and is pulled into a tunnel.Which ends in a amazing explosion and a very action packed ending that i love.
The cast includes
Tom Cruise-Ethan Hunt
Jim-Jon Voight
Ving Rhames-Luther Stickell
Henry Czerny-Eugene Kitridge
You should definatly check this movie out.

My brother has recomended The Sum of All Fears for me to watch. It stars Ben Affleck as Jack Ryan, a CIA operative who is called to investigate the death of the Russian President, when a nuclear bomb is detonated in Chechnya. All fingers are pointing to Russia, but Ryan believes otherwise. It also stars Morgan Freeman.

They're fighting so incredibly fast, they actually have to slow it down so it looks like they're fighting at normal speed, while all the sparks are falling down really slow.
My favourite part is when the bad Jet Li comes out of the vent and it's all super slow-mo and Jet Li is kicking all these guys asses in normal speed and by the time he's done with them all the first one hits the floor. AWESOME. Plus the music in the background.

Backdraft-1991
One breath of oxygen and it explodes in a deadly rage
This movie with an all-star cast is a great movie about the best fire squad in Chicago number 17.It starts out as the main characters as kids when they're dad is a firefighter(Kurt Russell) who goes into a burning to save a family. After the family get's out the firefighters are cleaning up there is a room unchecked that is a raging inferno inside which has spread into the ceiling above.Suddenly it collapses and kills the father. With the son Brian(William Baldwin) to sit and watch below as his father burns to death.Jumping to presant time as Brian is gunning for a spot in the Chicago Fire Dept. When he get's a spot on 17 the one his brother Stephen "Bull" McCaffrey(Kurt Russell) is the fire chief there. They have the sibling rivalry thing going on while there is a serial arcenest is on the loose, who is causing these Backdrafts to kill people.A fire investigator Donald "Shadow" Rimgale thinks that the arsenest is not intrested in burning the buildings down but killing the people who own the houses with the backdrafts. So as Shadow and Brian dig deeper into the arsens they find a paper trail of lies that lead right up to the man who wants to be mayor Alderman Marty Swayzak(J.T> Walsh)But then as Swayzak is targeted by the arsenist they have to rethink their gameplan.
This movie is expertly directed by the amazing Ron Howard and the fire visuals are insane. One of the greatest scenes in which Bull goes into a apartment building and saves a young child without anyone but his brother behind him the pic below is what the outcome is.If you love action movies where there is no gunplay this one is for you with multiple action sequences to put you on the edge of your seat and a climactic finale scene that will blow your mind.
If there was ever a fire at my house these are the guys i want putting it out!

I'd recommend O Brother, where art thou? with George Clooney..
It's a depression-era version of Homers' Odyssey..
It's not a jam-packed thriller with violence and nudity. It's a rather simple story of a prison escapee trying to get home..But it's well written, the character acting is genius, and it's got a unique fell that I liked..

ok. my movie reccomendatrion for today is the Transporter. it is an awsome action movie starring Jason Statham as an ex-military commando named Frank Martin, who is now delivering secret packages and transporting anyone who will pay him the right amount for the kind of job it is. he has his special rules: dont open the package, no names, etc. well when someone asks him to deliver a very special package to someone, he agrees. on the way there, he hears a thumping in his trunk a few times, so he gets out to see what is inside the package, despite breaking his own rule. it turns out to be a young Chinese woman named...Lai i think her name is. he gives her a drink and then forces her back into his trunk. when he gets to his destination, he gives them the package and they ask him to deliver another package on his way back home. they somehow knew that he opened the package, so the package they gave him back turns out to be a bomb. now he has to get back at them and find out what theyre hiding. he soon finds out that the enemies are involved in some sort of Chinese slave organization, and it is his job to rescue the slaves, and Lai in order to save his own life. this movie contains some awsome action scenes with excellent martial arts moves. i reccomend it to any action movie fan.

Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels
Set in the busy streets of Londons pub district, this is about 4 mates who need to make some money fast. The accents are very strong british, so you'll have to pay close attetion. It's incredibly hilarious with an absolutely fantastic storyline involving Londons underground crime kings and drug trafficing lords, these guys need to raise alot of money really fast in a very short time.
The story takes some of the most amazing twists and turns ever seen and their plan to raise the money is nothing short of absolute perfection.
My favourite movie ending ever.

Violent, funny, action packed and incredibly british, this is not to be missed!

Equilibrium
John Preston (Christian Bale) is a cleric of the highest order, a special police who in a futuristic world where emotions have been outlawed and surpressed by a drug (to stop all crime and violence), search out and deal with sense offenders (those who stop taking the drug and feel). Until one day where he himself, through an accident doesn't take his dose and begins to feel. Once feeling, he realises what they are missing out on and how the world they live in is wrong and with the help of the underground, he sets out to bring down the establishment of The Father.
Based on 1984 by George Orwell and Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury this film wasn't very well hyped because the studio pulled most of the advertising money from it for fear of it been considered a Matrix ripoff and flopping. But it is far from it, the action is well shot and the fight style (specially created by the director in his back yard) is unique and great to watch. Christian Bale is completely awesome. A must see!
Donnie Darko
During the presidential election of 1988, a teenager named Donnie Darko (Jake Gyllenhaal) sleepwalks out of his house one night, and sees a giant, demonic-looking rabbit named Frank, who tells him the world will end in 28 days, 6 hours, 42 minutes, and 12 seconds. He returns home the next morning to find that a jet engine has crashed through his bedroom. As he tries to figure out why he survived he is led by Frank to create havoc that is both destructive and creative.
A slow (In the sense that there is no action scenes) but thought provoking movie if you are into weird movies like The Butterfly Effect than this is for you.
Underworld
A Romeo and Juliet style story about a war that has been raging between Vampires and Lycans (werewolves) for centuries. Now fought in a Gothic-like setting, the conflict takes an unexpected and deadly new turn. Selene, a beautiful vampire warrior, uncovers a Lycan plot that could prove fatal for her entire race. She shadows a human, Michael, the Lycan's supposed target. Although she finds herself becoming attracted to him, he becomes infected with the lupine disease during a violent struggle with the Lycan overlord, Lucian, long thought to be dead. Now both sides must decide how to end the conflict and save their species as new and terrifying secrets unearth themselves and threaten their entire existance.
Made for quite a small budget the effects and creature effects are great. Action, is obviously inpsired by the likes of The Matrix but isn't an exact carbon copy. The direction, from first time director Len Wiseman, is easy to follow and fun. The sequel, Underworld: Evolution is currently been filmed.
Dark City
John Murdoch (Rufus Sewell) awakens alone in a strange hotel to find that he has lost his memory and is wanted for a series of brutal and bizarre murders. While trying to piece together his past, he stumbles upon a fiendish underworld controlled by a group of beings known as The Strangers who possess the ability to put people to sleep and alter the city and its inhabitants. Now John must find a way to stop them before they take control of his mind and destroy him and find out the secrets of the City, like, why is it always night? And why can't anyway tell him a way to leave?
Bears similarites to The Matrix and even uses some of the same Rooftop set pieces, director Alex Proyas (The Crow, I Robot) creates an unique and intriguing movie that's a little slow to start but is worth checking out.
Twelve Monkeys
An unknown and lethal virus has wiped out five billion people in 1996. Only 1% of the population has survived by the year 2035, and is forced to live underground. A convict (Bruce Willis) reluctantly volunteers to be sent back in time to 1996 to gather information about the origin of the epidemic (who he's told was spread by a mysterious "Army of the Twelve Monkeys") and locate the virus before it mutates so that scientists can study it. Unfortunately Cole is mistakenly sent to 1990, six years earlier than expected, and is arrested and locked up in a mental institution, where he meets Dr. Kathryn Railly, a psychiatrist, and Jeffrey Goines (Brad Pitt), the insane son of a famous scientist and virus expert.
Cube
Seven different people, each from a very different walk of life, awaken to find themselves inside a giant cube with thousands of possible rooms. Each has a skill that becomes clear when they must band together to get out. Each plays a part in their thrilling quest to find answers as to why they've been imprisoned and their way to freedom.
The Labyrinth
From Jim Henson Studios is a live action/puppet movie about a girl who wishes her baby brother would get taken away. Realising what she has done she makes a deal with the Goblin King (David Bowie) that if she can make it through the Labyrinth and to the Goblin Castle in 13 hours she wil lsave her brother, if not he will become a goblin himself. Stars a young Jennifer Connelly and David Bowie is good as the Goblin King. With some imaginative characters all along the, this is an easy going, fun movie.
The Iron Giant
Brad Bird's (The Incredibles) animated cult classic about a boy who discovers an Iron Giant of unknown origins. The robot soon becomes the boys best friend as he teaches him about life and keeps him hidden from the army. Good animation, good voice work including Harry Connick Jr, Jennifer Anniston and Vin Diesel this is a nice fun film that even makes you feel for the Iron Giant.
The Crow
based on the graphic novel about Eric Draven (Brandon Lee) and his fiancée who are murdered by a gang. One year later, A crow brings Eric's soul back and he is given strength and special sight to exact revenge on the gang. Brandon Lee is awesome as The Crow but was tragically killed on set days before filming finished by a faulty gun cartridge prop. He was in the running the play Neo in the Matrix.
Zoolander
Very funny, one of Stiller's best. It's about Derek, a male model at the top of his game who finds his career threatened by the new carefree model Hansel (Owen Wilson) and takes a job with top fashion mogul Mugatu (Will Ferrel) and is brainwashed to kill the Malaysian prime minister who is opposed against child labour, something which Mugatu uses. It plays on the stereotype that models are dumb and includes break dance fighting, a walk off and a nod the classic 2001 Ape scene. Very funny!

Crow has excellent taste in movies.

I saw a really good film the other night that I wasn't expecting to like as much as I did. 'Frida' with Salma Hayek, about the famous Mexican artist/socialist Frida Gallo. It was excellent. The actors were superb: Alfred Molina as her husband Diego, Ashley Judd, Geoffrey Rush, Ed Norton. Stellar cast.
The movied used her art as a way to paint her life (pun intended). Her paintings were colorful and bold and strong, just as she was. The movie used these pieces interchangably with scenes...moving from the painted world to the real world and vice versa. The story of her life was lush and exotic and very sensual as well as full of pain and obstacles and suffering.

Denzel's best performance. He came up with most of his own dialogue. About a rookie cop who has been assigned to a narcotics squad but his squad leader is a corrupt cop who believes in street justice. Denzel uses the rookie as part of a bigger plan to pay off a $1mil debt he owes to the Russian mafia.
Great dialogue and Denzel's acting is excellent!

Miracles Not sure of the release date.
This is an older Jackie Chan movie, shot in Hong Kong and dubbed in English. It's a remake of the old American gangster movie "Lady For a Day". Chan plays an innocent country boy who goes to the big city to make his fortune but gets conned out of all his money instead. His luck changes after a poor rose seller (Lady Rose) gives him a flower. He narrowly misses being killed and gets involved with gangsters, accidentally becoming their "big brother" (i.e. "godfather"). As the gang's leader, Chan is suddenly powerful and successful, running a popular nightclub and dating the lead showgirl. Superstitious, he believes it is all due to Lady Rose.
When Lady Rose collapses on the street after recieving a letter they learn that she has a daughter in school in China. Lady Rose has been sending her all the money she made selling roses and has told her that she re-married an important diplomat and is living a life of luxury in Hong Kong. Now the daughter is engaged to the son of a wealthy man and she is bringing her fiancee and his father home to meet her mother. Only slightly bullied by his girlfriend, Chan agrees to set Lady Rose up in a fancy hotel, recruit someone to play her husband, and pass her off as a lady for her daughter's sake.
This movie is hilarious, as the bumbling gangsters attempt to do a good deed gets more and more complicated. Adding to the confusion is an attempted take-over by the former Big Brother's right hand man and an entanglement with a rival gang. There's a wonderful mix of broad slapstick, sly sight gags and subtle humor (such as when a crowd scene is dubbed with people muttering "peas and carrots . . . peas and carrots). This is Jackie Chan at his best, IMO, with slick choreography and a liberal dose of humor.

Very funny!

Let's see: Equilibrium was a kick-ass movie, really good.
Zoolander was funny, somewhat stupid but really funny

Cube was awesome. Fav part: when the french get his face burned with acid (I know it's sadistic, but I freaked out when I watched that). Also the beggining and when they have to cross that room full of spikes that activated with noise.

I reccomend Se7en. It's about a pair of investigators (who really don't get along with each other that well) who must solve a puzzling series of murders based on the seven deadly sins. It's quite a wild ride, and there are several shocking twists and turns in the end; it can turn around and bite you in the neck. The murder scenes are gruesome and horrifying. It also provokes intriguing thoughts about humanity.
"Ernest Hemmingway once said, 'The world is a fine place, and worth fighting for'... I agree with the second part."

My recommendation is "Monte Walsh" I can identify with the main character, played by Tom Selleck, who is steadfast in his beliefs and will not compromise. In addition it is about the times changing and how it is hard to except that change when all you know tells you that it is not change for the better.

"Good Morning Vietnam"
Stars Robin Williams (as Adrian Cronauer ), and its based on a true story about a radio comedian who shed some light moments over the US radio in Vietnam. Its a really good movie, having both sad, 'touchy' moments, and some really hilarious ones (Its Robin Williams!). Cronauer always starts his broadcast with a long shout: "Goooooooood morning, Vietnaaam!"

The Crow was a really good movie. I love the scene when he's in the pawn shop.. and throws the engagement rings, one by one, at the owner, and then shoots a whole bunch of rings at the oil... boom

I'd have to seriously recommend Baraka .
It's not a movie in the traditional sense (that is to say, plot, characters etc). It's more a mind-blowing journey. Sort of like a documentary - but there's no annoying voice-over saying "Now if you look here at the mating ritual of the three-toed sloth..." In fact there's no talking at all.
A haunting, musical score accompanies the stunning visuals, highlighting cultural and social conventions of the modern (and not-so-modern) era. There is a subtextual reference to the animalistic nature of man, and the ultimately destructive nature of urbanisation, among other things.
You really have to see the movie to understand what I'm talking about...
I give the movie a 10 out of 10 rating.

I would recommend The Notebook.. I know most people dont like romantic 'chick flicks' But this is a good one. It shows the truth of 2 younger peoples love lives, and how their life goes thru.. Lol.. I wouldnt really know how to explain it cuz you would have to watch it yourself ^^;;
But yeah, I would recommend The Notebook, for it is the best movie ever XD

Love Honor and Obey.
(Ray Winstone,Jude Law ,Johnny Lee Miller,Sadie Frost,Sean Pertwee)
For all lovers of the Brit Flick Gangster invasion
If you liked Lock Stock,Layer Cake and Snatch i IMPLORE you to get this Movie.
Two Gangs go to war over drugs. A situation compounded by Johnny who uses every oppotunity to inflame the situation for his own gains.
But it could all explode in his face.
The dialogue for the most part appears ad libbed with very funny and very realistic conversations and outrageous situations
Fans of BBC 2's "The Good Guys" a Spoof fly on the Wall documentary about a Police station and it's staff will recognize the supporting cast.
Hilarious and Dark.

I just rewatched a movie by Tarintino (yes, im a massive tarintino fan, so you'll find me talking a lot about it), and it was called Reservoir Dogs.
The movie is about a group of thefts, all who go under aliases along the lines of Mr. Pink and Mr. White... using color names to hide the identity of their real ones (so no one can rat on one another). The movie is almost like Pulp Fiction, in the sense that Tarintino doesn't just let the movie flow onward. He relies on flashbacks and explanations to explain how certain events happened.
The movie premise: A group of thefts, all using aliases, plan a massive diamond heist. No one in the group exactly trusts each other... So after it appears that someone sold them out, it turns out that one of the thefts is really an undercover cop. The only problem is figuring out who...
This is an amazing movie that just sucks you in right from the beginning.

I would like to take this time to recommend 'Finding Neverland' starring Johnny Depp, Kate Winslet and Dustin Hoffman.
I was skeptical and really not interested in watching this movie at all, but i'm now very glad i did. A touching tale of a playwright who has lost his inspiration for writing, and finds it again in the imagination of 4 young boys who he meets one day in the park.
The story is really about the deepening relationship between Winslet and Depps characters. Winslet plays the widowed mother of the 4 boys.
Based on the true events of how 'Peter Pan' was written, this story is a rollercoaster of laughs and tears and i found it absolutely fantastic.
