SchoolBord Banns Instrumental Verson of Louie, Louie From being Played, Becuase of its allegedly raunchy lyrics.

(Banning Instrumental Version Becuase of lyrics?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! blink.gif )

BENTON HARBOR, Mich. (AP) -- A pop culture controversy that has simmered for decades came to a head when a middle school marching band was told not to perform "Louie Louie."

Benton Harbor Superintendent Paula Dawning cited the song's allegedly raunchy lyrics in ordering the McCord Middle School band not to perform it in Saturday's Grand Floral Parade, held as part of the Blossomtime Festival.

(Dear Paula, you are so dumb. You couldnt tell the difference between a pile of poop or a pile of clay.)

In a letter sent home with McCord students, Dawning said "Louie Louie" was not appropriate for Benton Harbor students to play while representing the district -- even though the marching band wasn't going to sing it. "Louie Louie," written by Richard Berry in 1956, is one of the most recorded songs in history. The best-known, most notorious version was a hit in 1963 for the Kingsmen; the FBI spent two years investigating the lyrics before declaring they not only were not obscene but also were "unintelligible at any speed."

Dawning said that if a majority of parents supports their children playing the song, she will reconsider her decision.

"It was not that I knew at the beginning and said nothing," Dawning said. "I normally count on the staff to make reliable decisions. I found out because a parent called, concerned about the song being played."

"Louie Louie" By the Kingsmen.

CHORUS:

Louie Louie, oh no
Me gotta go
Aye-yi-yi-yi, I said
Louie Louie, oh baby
Me gotta go

Fine little girl waits for me grin2.gif
Catch a ship across the sea
Sail that ship about, all alone
Never know if I make it home unsure.gif

CHORUS

Three nights and days I sail the sea
Think of girl, constantly blush.gif
On that ship, I dream she's there
I smell the rose in her hair.

CHORUS

Okay, let's give it to 'em, right now! rofl.gif

GUITAR SOLO

See Jamaica, the moon above
It won't be long, me see me love
Take her in my arms again
Tell her I'll never leave again no.gif

CHORUS

Let's take it on outa here now
Let's go!!

sounds like the same old jamaican wedding song to me!

Because 1 (one) lady called!? Only 1 (one) "concerned" parent called!?

Me: "Hello Paula?"
Paula: "Yes?"
Me: "I have a concern. All your 18 yr. old girls are not coming to my house. It's an outrage!"
Paula: "Oh dear your right! I'll send them over right away."

Ok, if they could point out ONE objectionable part of that song, MAYBE this wouldn't be so freakin' stupid. Louie, Louie? For God's sake... These people need to get hobbies. mad.gif

I love Motorheads version of this song yes.gif

MP3 players, CD players and iPods have all been banned at my school. I can tell you, todays music has far more 'raunchy' lyrics than Louie Louie.
ForRizzle
It is being played by a band with no lyrics out loud.. The stupidity of some never ceases to amaze me. blink.gif

Good to see good old "concerned" parents ruining things for others for a change!

Louie Louie? Ha! In Jazz Band we played This Love by Maroon 5. Compare those lyrics with that of Louie Louie. grin2.gif People are too uptight about things.

What? Aren't there any real problems to address?

I have never heard the song nor Louie Louie. The lyrics are quite sweet really I don't understand whats raunchy about it huh.gif There is no smuttiness... hmmm these people are reading something into it that isn't there, which makes me wonder the state of their own minds in the first place.

In the most famous recording of Louie Louie, the lyrics are unintelligible. Somebody decided forty years ago that they heard something dirty in them and the story has stuck with the song ever since. Honestly, there's nothing obscene even in the unintelligible version unless you are determined to hear it! rolleyes.gif

Yep.. people hear what they want to hear. Give the kids a break, thats a cool song. Schools (and this country in general) have been getting way to restrictive. What happened to the old "America of the free".. long gone if you ask me..free..me.. hey that rhymed! Anyway..yeah.. I'm done..
