While moderating a press conference for DreamWorks' next CGI animated film Madagascar, DreamWorks' co-founder Jeffrey Katzenberg was reticent to talk about Shrek 3, the "threequel" to their blockbuster box office hits that have earned over 1.3 billion dollars worldwide combined. Almost immediately after declining to comment, he proceeded to give a very full plot synopsis about what people should expect from the film scheduled to come out in May of 2007:

When 'Shrek 3' opens, Shrek and Fiona are having to take on the duties of being the active king and queen of Far, Far Away. When we left him, the King was quite literally croaking. They're not very comfortable in these roles, so the King says to them, "If you can find the heir to the throne and bring him back, the Kingdom will be in good hands, then you can return to swamp and live your lives." Which is what they want to do. Shrek, Donkey and Puss go to the far side of the Kingdom of Far, Far Away where young "Artie", who is the nephew of Queen Lilian, is about to graduate school. Artie turns out to be young King Arthur and Shrek and Donkey and Puss have to convince this extremely rebellious young man, who's being voiced by Justin Timberlake, to come back and assume the throne. Along the way, Shrek invents the Round Table, chivalry. Donkey is the Lady in the Lake with the sword. You get it. Meanwhile, back at the Kingdom of Far, Far Away, Prince Charming decides that it's time for a coup d'etat. "The cat's away. He will play" So Fiona organizes all of the princesses into the underground Resistance movement, who are trying to hold things together until Shrek, Donkey, Puss and young King Arthur return. There you go.

The Shrek movies are very over rated. 1 was ok, 2 relied too much on pop culture references that won't mean anything in 20 years time but I enjoyed it more than the first. It sounds like it could be alright, all the stuff they could do like where Donkey is the Lady in the Lake, could be funny but Justin Timberlake as young King Arthur hmm.gif no.gif rolleyes.gif

There's also gonna be a direct to video Puss In Boots movie and a Shrek 4. Many people expected Shrek 3 to be about them having a baby so I guess that will be 4... but 4 is too many...

I hope they dont do a "Rocky". Movie-wise two's company, three's a crowd, four's taking it too far, five's a complete and utter sleeping pill.

But I do think number one was a real good laugh and number two defintiely had it's fair share of moments, so let's just sit back and see what happens in the third.

I really liked shrek o.o; I want to see 3, but it really would be too much if they did make a 4..

I agree with the opinoin that they relied too heavily on pop references. That sort of stuff dates a movie immediately. And it seems like wishful thinking to expect Justin Timberlake to stand the test of time. rolleyes.gif
